Had a lovely room on the 5th floor, with a great view of the Bay of Naples. The room was spotless with clean towels every day. Food was excellent, with a good choice for your evening meal. We took breakfast out side each morning and couldn't complain about anything. Enzo had a great personality and kept us laughing through the evening meal. We were very lucky with the weather and only had 1 day of rain (in a week). Easy to walk to the centre of town with good shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. Lovely trips to Capri, Positano, Almafi, Naples, Pompei etc. Hair raising trip on the local bus to Positano, but the views were magnificant. Overall a very pleasant holiday with no complaints regarding the hotel, and I would recommend it to anyone.

We arrived at this hotel to find a lovely bedroom, and a delicious meal, despite us being vegetarian and arriving in the early hours.
The restaurant staff were more than obliging and we were asked what we would like to eat for the evening meal every morning. Even if we didn't like what was on the menu, they were prepared to make us an alternative. The pizzas were out of this world and on our last night the chef had made us creme caramels as we had said to the waiter how much we had enjoyed them for breakfast a few days before.
There were fantastic views of the menacing volcano and the islands of Capri and Ischia from the roof terrace. Plus the hotel was ideally situated for the centre of Sorrento town, providing you are mobile due to the steepness of the steps down to the harbour, although there is a bus route.
The age of our party ranged from 67 to 16 and we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and would love to return in the near future.
This hotel is most certainly worlds apart from the average package holiday accommodation!

Having read great reviews for the Hotel de la Ville on tripadvisor, we booked it for two nights on our honeymoon in August.

We were completely disappointed and had a terrible experience.

After a very long journey from Florence we arrived at the hotel. The room they put us in was dark, horrible and had views of the building next door with washing hanging on the balconies. To add to this, we were given two single beds when we had specifically asked for a double (given we were on our honeymoon!).

We went down to reception to tell them we were not happy with our room and single beds and were told by the person on reception that we had booked a standard room (i.e. what more could we expect). They then said they may be able to move us the next day if someone was to move out.

We thought we would cheer ourselves up and take a look at the pool area. This was also very disappointing and surrounded by buildings (it was not until the second day we found the rooftop pool).

The next morning after a breakfast surrounded by screaming kids and families, we checked our booking confimation. We were most annoyed when we found out we had booked a superior, sea view room after all. We went back to reception and the same person who had told us we had booked a standard room tried to make out he was doing us a favour by moving us to a superior room (which we had booked in the first place!). When we explained the situation he glossed over it.

We then decided to go to Capri for a nice lunch. On our way out, one of the other hotel receptionists asked his colleague how he would make up for the mistake. He agreed to send up a nice bottle of champagne to our room on our return.

After a fantastic day in Capri, we returned to the hotel (which we started to dread) but unfortunately the champagne was not in our room as promised. We had to ring down for it and a waiter was sent up with an ice bucket which started to look promising. We poured out the 'champgne' to find it was the cheapest, sweetest, nastiest asti spumant they could find.

This really was the nail in the coffin and we again complained to reception and told them it was more of an insult than sending nothing at all.

All in all, we had a really bad experience at this hotel and would never stay there again or recommend it to anyone. It may be OK if you didn't pay much for it and were on a family package holiday but it is definitely not somewhere to stay on your honeymoon.

Couldn't have found a better hotel for this stay... beautiful view from the balcony... wonderful breakfast!... helpful desk clerks... internet access... rented a 'ForTwo' and drove the Amalfi Coast... the pools could have been warmed up, but we were there at the end of October.... would definitely stay again!!

Just returned from a four night stay at this hotel. Initially, a mix up with the rooms but that was corrected the next day.
Pro: Vincenzo (Vincent) the day manager. We arrived without luggage but that's a whole different story!!!! Didn't finally get the luggage until four days later! Vincenzo worked daily on finding and retrieving our luggage. (He also fixed the room mix up).
Note to the hotel: Don't lose this guy!
Pro: Location. If you get a room on the fifth floor, you get a beautiful view. 2nd floor gets you trees! It's a short and fun walk to the train. (Highly recommend the train to Pompeii. It stops right outside the site! Vincenzo suggested that we visit Herculaneum first in the morning then stop at Pompeii in the afternoon. Good suggestion. Herculaneum had more "standing" buildings etc.
Even got to see a wooden bed frame in a bedroom! Pompeii in the afternoon beats the crowds. Thanks again Vincenzo!)
Also it's a great location to walk to the Plazza at night and shop around or eat and there's a lemon grove at the end of the street you can walk through!.
Check out this website. It shows you a side street off the plaza.
It's a great way to check the weather and what people are wearing!

Cons: They charge 2 euros/day to use the safe in the room! Come on Hotel De La Ville. Couldn't you find a way to absorb that in the daily room rate? Obviously everyone who travels has something they need locked up for safety. Charging daily for customers to store things safely will continue to keep you as a three star hotel!
Cons: The breakfast that is included is pretty mundane. Runny yougart, coffee that tastes instant, pastries that are dry and flat tasting. The omelet chef was pretty good but you can't have an
omelet every day! Breakfast: three star!
All in all, we had a great time in Sorrento
