Yes this was a great holiday!
The Grand Hotel de la Ville is clean, spacious and managed by courteous, warm and hard-working staff. We had a magnificent view of Vesuvius-awesome-that was a pleasure to wake up to every morning. The rooster that everyone mentions is still active but he became a bit of a giggle after a while...and so what if he wakes us up? We need to be up and about early to eat a hearty breakfast and savour all that beautiful Italian daytime! The view from the hotel's rooftop terrace is to die for. Vesuvius watches and waits.........
Internet access is excellent value 5 euros for 1 hour. By using a special card (5 euro deposit) that is charged up with 1 hour initially, internet use can be at your convenience, going off and on as required. Table Tennis in the garden is free!
The rooms were kept scrupulously clean and the housekeeping staff were polite and friendly at all times. However, what impressed the pants off us most of all were the Restaurant staff.....Enzo heads a great team of guys who work their socks off to please and serve guests as quickly yet carefully as possible. The food was delicious, lovingly served and choices were extensive. Enzo is certainly a great front man whose 25 years experience in accommodating guests is a real asset to the hotel. This guy not only meets, greets and seats every individual dinner party as they enter the dining room (charming salutations, handshakes and special inoffensive greetings for the ladies!), he also supports his staff with clearing tables, delivering dishes and laying new tables. His staff repay him by working at full capacity, always with a smile despite the challenges of a full restaurant. We especially felt praise should be given to Isidoro, the cheerful, helpful wine waiter and Guiseppe, the waiter who always had a smile and witty comment. If those guys ever get to read this about themselves, we hope that they will be heartened by the fact that their hard work and committment was noted and very much appreciated. Thanks a million! Hope to see you soon. Room 310 16th -23rd September
