Loved this hotel it was so italian, the tiles were lovely bright colours, the location was terrific a short walk down into town. The pool area was enormous, the staff were great except the old guy in pool bar, get rid of him he spoils it for the other quality staff especially the English lady who runs the main bar just excellent. The food was beautiful, breakfast and dinner very tasty.

Room Tip: Ask for a room over the pool

This was a last minute booking and our first time to Italy. The Hotel is situated on a main road into Sorrento. Some are disappointed that their balcony opens onto the roadside and a garage is opposite. I just overlooked that and focused on the view of the mountain beyond and the bustle of everyone on their way into Sorrento. Many an hour spent with a wine sat on the balcony. The roadside balconies get the sun all day ! The staff are all very helpful. The poolside restaurant manager Santone is a loveable Italian character who wants to look after your every need. The cleaner has a warm welcome for all. The bar waitress Michelle also has a warm welcome for all. The pool is situated to the rear next to a lemon garden. The half board restaurant is on the 5th floor overlooking the sea. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We walked into Sorrento and visited the must do Marine Grand and booked a fishing trip out in the harbour with the local fisherman. The restaurant run by them also meant we ate our own catch. The isle of Capri was too overcrowded and commercialised for us. We went but not my cup of tea. The evenings spent in Sorrento were priceless. Many an evening working our way thorough the streets and restaurants. A lovely short stay that allowed us to enjoy Italy for the first time. Thanks to all at the Grand hotel Flora

We spent a week at the Flora this August. The location was good, close to the main Square and the train station, which makes it easy to get to Pompeii, Vesuvius and Herculaneum. The pool is huge with plenty of loungers and a good snack bar. Our room was in the annex without a sea view but it was very large and comfortable. We slept through any road noise and did not find it a problem. The room was spotlessly clean and the towels changed every day. The restaurant on the 5th floor offered great views over the bay to Vesuvius. The sunsets were amazing and the food delicious. The waiters were very friendly and they really went the extra mile. They always offered alternatives if you didn't like something on the menu. The salmon crepes were particularly good. There was a gala dinner on a Wednesday with prosecco on the house and the staff kindly made us a cake and brought us prosecco on our special wedding anniversary.Michelle in the bar is an absolute diamond and she could not be more welcoming or helpful.
People have complained about paying extra for safety deposit boxes and fridges but this is pretty standard. Loungers and towels by the pool can be arranged for 20 Euros a week for guests which is not bad considering it costs 12 Euros plus for a lounger in the Marina Piccolo on a bathing platform . Yes Italy is not cheap but I don't think anyone expects it to be so. It is beautiful, historical and stunning and well worth the extra.
There are more luxurious hotels in Sorrento but the Flora is very good value and a very comfortable friendly place to stay. I would thoroughly recommend it.

We were booked into another hotel in Sorrento however due to other issues, we were transferred to the Grand Flora. Our room was really basic in the annexe to the main hotel, it had two single beds pushed together to make a double. It faced the street and the traffic noise was terrible. The Wifi signal was non existent unless you opened the bathroom window and leaned out. We have stayed in some basic hotels before and as long as they are clean we can deal with it.........this place rates pretty lowly. I think they need to subtract about 3 of their 4 stars. On the plus side, the staff were courteous and spoke good English but that isn't enough for me to recommend this hotel to anyone.

Room Tip: If you get a room in the annexe, tell them it isn't good enough. That part of the hotel is a div...

First time in Italy. Hotel was lovely and the staff couldn 't have been better. Some of the rooms have no view. The first room we had was on the ground floor with a courtyard view because we hadn't requested a balcony. This was not an option when I booked online. However we paid extra for a sea view and were very happy with this. The view from the 5th floor restaurant is fantastic. We didn't sit by the pool as there is no room for sun shades.

Room Tip: Rooms that overlook the bay are quiet and get good sunshine.

On arriving at the hotel I was quite impressed by the frontage and the reception/bar areas. We were staying as a family and had booked two double rooms. Our room was on the poolside and our daughter's room was roadside. With regard to our daughter's room, having only inspected it on arrival, I would say that it needed a refurbishment, I noticed black mould around the sealant of the bathroom window, the electrical control panel for the air conditioning was loose in the wall, the beds looked very cheap and tacky and the balcony doors were difficult to close. Our room which had a view over the Bay of Naples was better, none of the problems experienced with our daughter's room, but only having one electrical socket which was in the bathroom, the two single beds of different heights pushed together and completely unattached and dangerous headboard let it down. Finally with regards to the accommodation I considered it mean that the room safe and fridge had to be paid for extra, and that there were no tea/coffee making facilities.
With regard to meals, we stayed half board, and I could not fault it, congratulations to the waiting staff and cooks for an excellent job well done.
The outdoor pool and bar/snack area was really good. Not overcrowded, and meals/drinks at a very reasonable cost. Santo the pool manager was very good at meeting all requests.
The location of the hotel I considered to be excellent, right on the town extremity and convenient to walk to wherever.
The town of Sorrento is a must see wonderful place to visit, with excellent restaurants, shopping and trips to such places as the Isle of Capri and Pompeii. However, as this is a hotel rating I say no more.
I would have rated this review as excellent if it had not been for the accommodation experience which could be quite easily remedied. To the Management of the Grand Hotel Flora, I recommend that you refurbish your rooms and when done I will visit you again without hesitation.

Room Tip: Poolside view over the Bay of Naples

My parents and I stayed here, at Grand Hotel Flora, for 10 nights at the end of July 2014 and had a lovely stay.

The pool area is fantastic. The swimming pool is large and has plenty of sun beds and deck chairs available to use. I advise you bring a towel with you because the hotel's pool towels have to be paid for! The pool bar was brilliant and Santo the waiter was very helpful and friendly. Food and drink is very cheap but is very good quality and generous portions.

We went half board. Breakfast was very good with plenty of choice: cooked breakfast, toast, cereals, yoghurts and pastries were all available and you can have as much as you want. The evening meal was very impressive. There is a four-course meal every evening from 7:00-9:30 and the food is brilliant. The waiters were all very nice and polite. There are always vegetarian options available and, being a vegetarian myself, I was satisfied with the veggie options. The restaurant, which is on the fifth floor, has panoramic views across the Bay of Naples and Vesuvius: time your evening meal for sunset (around 8:15pm - it's absolutely stunning!).

The location is good, being just a 15 minute walk to Sorrento's main square, Piazza Tasso which has a fantastic place to eat and drink called Fauno Bar. A pharmacy, bars and shops are all within a 5 minute walk from the hotel. Many people have been complaining about traffic noise which is unavoidable because Sorrento is a town, not a resort! I was more than happy with being on the road-side of the hotel because I knew there was going to be traffic and closing the doors eliminates a lot of the noise.

The hotel is old and while the decor is mainly pleasant, there is quite a bit of refurbishment needed to make it 'grand' again. Lights didn't work in areas of the hotel and the lifts were slow but it is what you can expect. Cleaners could do a better job as my bed wasn't changed in 10 days which isn't very good and dust was frequent on the floors and stairwells. My balcony door didn't lock properly and you had to slam it to close it but this is hardly anything compared to some hotels!

Finally, I found it rather bad having to pay for the mini fridge and safe in the bedrooms as we spent a lot of money on this hotel and felt these should be included at no extra cost.

In summary, a very good hotel in a great location. Expect traffic noise in parts of the hotel at the hotel is situated on the Corso Italia, not in a tourist resort! We would recommend the hotel without hesitation.
