“What a view!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2014

The view is incredible! I had a room on the 3rd floor with a balcony that overlooked the water. There were several storms while I was here and the lightning shows were spectacular. The room was very basic and clean which is fine considering the view that you have. Breakfast had many choices, including fresh fruit. I wish it would have yogurt, but there was still plenty to eat. The walk to Sorrento takes about 15 minutes and there are great views along the way. The only real downside to this hotel was the thin walls and noisy plumbing. Other than that, great place to stay if you looking for something with a view in Sorrento.

This hotel is one of the recommendations by Rick Steves travel books so it is budget minded. I've stayed here a couple times when I needed to be on a strict budget. True you have to be lucky with the room they give you and I've had better accommodations when NOT traveling in the height of summer.

My husband and I stayed in this hotel for 3 nights and we experienced the most wonderful stay.
the view from our balcony was amazing. Their was a view of mt versuvius and a gorgeous marina below. Our rooms were clean and spacious and the breakfast was terrific. Lots to choose from and it was amazing enjoying breakfast with a splendid view. We enjoyed soaking up the sun and a beautiful relaxing swim surrounded by a gorgeous view. We were constantly surrounded by the view wherever we were in the hotel.

Booked this Hotel and flight through Monarch after reading reviews and the cost was very low compared to other Hotels. The Hotel has the best view in Sorrento overlooking Marina Grande and out across the Bay of Naples towards Vesuvius.
Its a good 15 mins walk to the center and a slight hill back to the Hotel but that was OK for us.
The breakfast is basic but again perfectly OK unless you want lots of choice. Some reviewers complained about towels. Yes they are not "fluffy" towels but traditional Italian cotton towels beautifully pressed and presented. Rooms again are quite basic but VERY clean with a view to die for. Pool is small but again exceptionally well looked after with Sunbeds all around the Pool and easy to get a Sunbed

If you want friendliness, cleanliness and an overall "Honest" hotel, this is for you.

If you want a swanky Hotel, maybe try somewhere else

We stayed here for 5 nights at the end of May and have already booked to return next year.
We had a twin room with balcony and amazing views that will take some beating. Yes, the rooms are basically furnished but spotlessly clean and did us just fine. Our room was of a reasonable size, not tiny as other reviews have stated, perhaps because we had one of the rooms with a balcony. The breakfast room is lovely and the breakfast was of a very good standard.
The staff were all lovely, friendly and very helpful.
We got the bus to Sorrento from Naples airport, it cost about €10 and took approx 1 hr 20 mins. It takes about 20 mins max to walk from the bus/ train station to the hotel. A taxi to the hotel from the bus/ train station is about €21. We walked it with our pull along cabin size cases and it wasn't a problem. It's about a 10 min walk into the centre of Sorrento from the hotel, down hill going, up hill coming back. The boat over to Capri is approx €30 return and a must. Local buses to Amalfi are very cheap, crowded, but great fun. The Amalfi coastline is awesome and could be a white knuckle ride for some people, we loved it. Positano, which is a town before Amalfi is well worth a stop, In fact we preferred it, very picturesque.
To sum up, if you haven't been, do it, amazing scenery, friendly people great weather, and as for the Hotel Settimo Cielo, if you want frills and posh toiletries perhaps it's not for you, if you want good service, clean rooms, helpful friendly staff, amazing.....really amazing views, this is it.

Room Tip: Go for a room with a balcony if possible, it costs more but it's well worth it.

Sorrento hotels aren't cheap so although we paid 140 euro/n we couldn't expect the same standard as other places. In saying that although the views were great this was our least favourite hotel on our Italy leg.

PROS:
The views from your balcony, breakfast room and pool are sensational - very relaxing to watch over the marina and cliff tops (watch out for the gulls as they swoop and can take your food - I lost a bread roll!)
Only a 10min walk into the main town and close to the grand marina (some great seafood restaurants there)
Local corner store has almost anything you need and is a 5min walk
The evening concierge is very helpful and a delight compared to the rest of the staff

CONS:
Very basic standard room, average (and tiny) bathroom and firm bed
Tiny tv - impossible to view FIFA World Cup - needed to request your remote control via the reception which we found odd
Noise - our room was near the lift so we could often hear ppl coming and going and dragging their suitcases. The walls to the neighbouring room were thin and we could hear muffled talking and even sneezing.
Cleaning lady - you don't get a 'do not disturb' sign so the cleaner can knock on your door anytime from 8.30am which we found unacceptable. She even walked in once without our consent. This stopped after we complained at reception and she cleaned our rm later in the day.
No fridge in room to store water etc

SUMMARY:
Good no frills hotel
Great views and location
Not ideal if you are a light sleeper or like a sleep-in
Don't expect modern rooms

Many have commented on the basic facilities in this Hotel, but to be Honest if you don't mind not having the frills that some other hotels offer to cover up poor standards and shoddy service I am all for basic facilities !
The Settimo Cielo is a good honest Hotel from the old days where service counts above swanky pricey fayre..
Accommodation ....rooms can be a little 'odd', some, but not all ( 7 ) (ours) had a large pillar that presumably support the upper floors, it had a huge Balcony (you must have one) best view of any Hotel I would say in the bay , Rooms 6/5/4 seem superior ? how you even build a hotel in this location is a minor miracle ) bear in mind you can get a good value stay at this hotel, and keeping this in mind yes I would certainly come here again.
no, as other have said it's not 5 star, Decor , Italy's 3/4 star is our 2/3 star but if service and friendly staff who genuinely appear pleased to see you if these inclusions are high on your list of priorities and rank above the latest decor, the Settimo scores very highly and in my opinion rate 5 star .
I recommend you think about staying here!
