“Room with a view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2014

I LOVE the fact that this hotel is family run. We so enjoyed getting to know all the family. The service was so warm. The view from each room was gorgeous and each room had a nice balcony to enjoy the view of vesuvius, naples and sorrento. I liked the fact that it was a little removed from the center of Sorrento--it was an easy walk to downtown. I highly recommend staying here.

Great view over the bay from the balcony. Basic rooms and breakfast. Friendly staff. Big, clean pool.

Location was good as you didn't have to use any transfers but you could walk to centre. Not too far away from Marina Grande, old town or main square.

Hotel arranged taxi transfers to Marina Piccola / port with reasonable price when a ferry left early. Other excursions can be arranged as well from the reception.

Room Tip: Balcony, near pool

We really enjoyed our holiday in Sorrento and had a good stay at the Hotel Settimo Cielo. In summary, the hotel has spectacular views, basic but clean rooms and generally good staff. Given the other prices around, I think the hotel represents ok value for money in Sorrento.

Pros
Amazing views from both the balcony and swimming pool
Very nice gentleman on the desk in the evening and waiter at breakfast
Clean rooms with good air conditioning
Nearby shop selling cold drinks and basics at reasonable prices
We had a fridge (although this doesn't sound like the norm from other reviews) which was good, although it could be noisy at times
Nice location away from the busy town so you could relax
A room away from everyone else - at first we didn't like this because we were a bit out on a limb, however given other comments about thin walls we decided this was a good thing - we only heard a door slam once from next door (the only room near to us).

Cons
Basic rooms - they look better in the photos on the website (this seems to be the norm for the Italian hotels - in the UK we are lucky that we have cheap and good modern chain hotels)
Scruffy exterior - the grey hotel really needs a lick of pain to brighten it up (it'd probably push the price up)
Woman on the front desk was rude - she was always on the phone or doing something else when we returned the key and never spoke a word to us.
The same member of staff's child also stood up in the pool and urinated into it - this was at least actioned as after telling the male member of staff on the desk, it didn't happen again. A note on this as well - with the amount of money you're paying to stay here, I don't really think it's acceptable that staff's children are playing around the pool and being noisy, and taking up tables and sunbeds, but that's just me.

Things to consider
There is nowhere for an evening meal at the hotel, so it means you have to walk into town (which is only about ten mins each way). This was fine for us as we are only in our twenties, but could be an issue for older/less mobile people.

Hotels in Sorrento are expensive - there seems to be no escaping this! The hotel next door, Belair, was a 4-star hotel, and cost 100 euros more a night when we checked Expedia. Looking at the rooms here, they were also extremely basic (although the hotel outside was presented more nicely, but it still had the same view and location) and so was a 5-star in the centre of town - for a mere 1300 euros a night! If you have the money then fair enough, but if not then the Settimo Cielo offers good value accommodation comparatively in the area, although it is not of a 3-star standard as I would expect in the UK.

This hotel is good - but it needs a lick of paint and tidying up in my opinion. I think you have to accept that the level of hotels isn't necessarily as good or modern in Italy as elsewhere.

After weighing everything up, I think for our budget we made the right decision on where to stay in this expensive resort. We had a great holiday and Sorrento was an ideal base for exploring and some relaxation. I'm not sure I would return to the hotel - I would probably only return to the area when I could afford something of a higher standard (which will be a long while given the prices in this area!).

Hotel view is amazing and this is what you pay for. We found the rooms very basic, a bit like a college dorm. The hotel is very clean and rooms are cleaned daily. The towels are like bed sheets , not towels, and very difficult to get dry and use more than once. I would have liked tea and coffee in the room and a small fridge to keep the water cool but that's my fault for not checking. Breakfast is the same every day, again quite basic but bread was fresh and the coffee is good. No bar/snacks around the pool which you could have done with. The bar was 2 flights of stairs up. Staff were very friendly and helpful. If you don't like walking up and down hills this isn't the hotel for you.

Room Tip: Go for a sea view. It is worth it.

3 of us stayed at Settimo Cielo for 2 nights in June. The hotel has an amazing location with views over Sorrento and the bay. It's also only about a 10 minute walk down to the main street. The staff at the hotel couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. Our room was basic but perfectly acceptable for what we wanted. Slight issue with the shower flooding the bathroom but that would really be in the only fault. We got restaurant recommendations from the staff which worked out very well. Very much enjoyed our stay here and will definitly be back.

A charming family run hotel about 10 minutes walk from the centre of Sorrento which means it is away from the hussle and bussle of the town. The staff are delightful - they couldn't have been more helpful and definitely made the holiday even more enjoyable. Rooms are traditional but large and spotlessly clean. They have everything you need (including a hairdryer in the bathroom) but take your own towels if you don't like linen ones. The views from the balconies and the dining room (and even the lift!) are amazing - the best way to start the day over a relaxing buffet breakfast. There is a wide choice of food and different fresh fruit everyday.
The hotel is perfectly situated to explore the area and in easy reach of a wide range of good restaurants. Its definitely worth going down to the Marina Grande for a perfect setting and delicious fresh fish. All in all a beautiful place which I would definitely return to.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a balcony

This is a place where you will never tire of the gorgeous views, the beautiful weather, the clean and comfortable rooms and the incredibly personable and accommodating staff. There are several good restaurants within walking distance, and the fresh fish and homemade limoncello is delicious! We loved Sorrento, very romantic, just as my parents said many years ago.

Room Tip: get a room with a balcony and sea view - amazing!
