“50 feet away from bliss.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2013

We stayed at this hotel with a tour group and at first I figured it was par for the course for a tour,but...it grew on me. The staff was friendly, the rooms were clean and breakfast was edible. The best part other than the fact that its located 50 feet from the center of Sorrento, is that they have a nice little piano bar. The bartenders are nice and they make a nice martini. If you don't mind hanging with an older tourist crowd then its perfect. We were there 6 days and spent little time there other than a night cap late at night before crashing out.

I stayed at the hotel with my mother (70+) and my sister (30+) in September and it was the perfect place to stay for us. The location is definitely a big plus - close to the main square, the train and bus station which was great as we used Sorrento as a base to sightsee. The rooms are clean, the lift was just by the room which was great for my mum; the pool was a bit small but its location is stunning - high on the rooftop above Sorrento with spectacular views of the coast and hills. The decor might be a bit dated, but totally outweighed by the exceptional service. The concierge service was superb and provided us with really useful advice on when to visit Pompeii and saved us from a visit to a cable car which has been closed all season. I would definitely stay again and recommend the hotel to friends and family.

We arrived in Sorrento not knowing where to stay, the first three hotels we tried were fully booked then we arrived at the Cesare Augusto they only had a room for one night. We took the room and explored the area, the hotel was well placed for exploring the town and harbour. When we got back we were fortunate as there was a cancellation and we could have the room for three nights.
We were on the 5th floor will a garden view, the room was clean and comfortable with a balcony with a table and chairs and just about had a view of the bay of naples. The fittings were old and worn but all serviceable.
Breakfast was busy, with a good selection it was also entertaining watching the waiters flirting with the guests.
The hotel mainly catered for organised tours with tompson having a rep based there. The price was comparable with other hotels in the area.
Parking was included in the price.

My wife and I stayed for 4 nights at this wonderful hotel and we had an awesome stay !! The location is the best ,at least for us coming with the circumvesuviana train, is very near the train station, a short walk if you come with luggage. Is also close to everything in Sorrento : Piazza Tasso, restaurants, the port, supermarkets, etc. I`ve read other reviews regarding is dated...yes, but everything is in EXCELLENT conditions, is like travelling in time to 1965 when this Hotel opened, everything seems to be original, in an italian style, The lobby is very big and comfortable, in fact, all spaces of the Hotel are ample and huge, contrary to most Hotels in Europe. The room was huge, with a big balcony and a slight view of the sea ( at least form the 4th and 5th floors ). It has a big terrace in the top ,which I consider is not fully exploited , the snack bar in this level has very low prices, unbelievable for Italy ! Also, they have a small pool and the view is very nice. The breakfast is very good with lot of choices : fruits, pastries and cakes ( typical for italian breakfast ), salami, cheeses, mortadela, ham, scrabled eggs, bacon, sausages, coffee, juices, tea, etc. The waiters maybe not too friendly but they do their job, and are very fancy and elegant, with a beige tuxedo and black pants,it seems you are dining in an italian cruise : the restaurant is very big, classy ...but the best of this Hotel, the jewel is the Concierge, dear Cristina !! She`s the best !! She has solutions for everything, recommendations, suggestions, whatever you need to know, Cristina will help you in the best way !! I doubt you will find a better concierge in any 5 star hotel in the entire world, and I mean it !! Just for her, I will definitely always repeat here when coming to Sorrento !! Don`t look for other Hotel, this one has Cristina and all you need for an unforgettable stay !!

Room Tip: The best rooms will be on the 4th and 5th floor on the other side of Via dei Aranci, facing the sea...

The Cesare Agusto is OK.
It is clean, the staff mostly tries to be nice. It is a hotel full of bus loads of "ugly American tourists" ..... So if you are ok with that clientele .... You will be OK with this hotel.... It is certainly not upscale, has no beautiful views, but it is adequate,,,,,
Keep the balcony door shut tight& it may almost feel quiet!!
Very busy & noisy streets surround the property.

Just returned from a 5 night break at this hotel. The location is definitely in the hotels favour. The back door will take you to Piazzo Tasso in about 5 mins. The front door and turn left, straight on for about 500mt and you will reach the back of the train and bus station. As you are in the centre don't be expecting any great views from the hotel unless you are at the swimpool and bar on the 6th floor. There are very reasonably priced snacks available at this bar during the day.

I am sure the hotel itself was very grand in its day, but now is rather dated. The reception staff and restaurant staff were all very pleasant and helpful. Housekeeping replaced towels on a daily basis and toiletries less regularly.

the plumbing in the hotel was very noisy and each morning we were awakened by noisy pipes at about 6.30am - obviously people showering before heading off for the day! I can only assume that we were not the only people who experienced this annoyance.

we stayed on a bed and breakfast basis and we found breakfast at best to be mediocre- with very little choice. However, this is par for the course in most European countries and I cant help but feel that we Irish have high expectations where food is concerned because of the high standard of cuisine we experience in our hotels!

The hotel was spotlessly clean with nice gardens and is a good base to travel. Lacks atmosphere!

The location is super. If you go out the back door, piazza Tasso, the main square with a brilliant buzz every night is 3 minute walk away.
If you go out the front door the train & bus station is a 5 minute walk away. Very handy for trains to Pompei, Herculaneum , Naples and Mt Vesuvius . Also the bus for Amalfi coast.
Staff were courteous, friendly and helpful. Food was good. Room very spacious, cleaned everyday. The negatives for us were no tea making facilities, no iron in THE HOTEL. And the fish on the menu was invariably cooked from frozen - in a fishing port. Really enjoyed our 2 weeks though and it was lovely and quiet at night.
