“Wonderful staff and location!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2012

We stayed at the Cesare Augusto for 3 nights in early July after spending 3 nights in Rome. This hotel is in a wonderful location. You can walk to the action in the Piazzas and shop and eat til your hearts delight! The staff was so helpful. They helped us with a boat excursion down the Amalfi Coast, money exchange, and confirming our private transfer car to the Naples train station prior to our departure. The room was very spacious and clean. We would definitely return to this hotel again! We just loved Sorrento, Capri, and Positano!

You can't beat the location of the Cesare Augusto in Sorrento. You are five minutes from the main square in town, Piazza Tasso, and five minutes from the train/bus station.

The main square is quite lively in the evenings, and you can wander the streets from there for more restaurants and lots of shopping - limoncello, anything lemon and much more. We had a delicious lunch at Bufalito on Vico I Fuoro 21 for about 15 per person (with wine), and some great pizzas at Jhonny's (yes, that's the correct spelling) which is on the main street from Piazza Tasso. To do any day tours, you need to go to the train/bus station. The buses leave for the other towns (Positano, Almafi, etc.) and the commuter train to Pompeii and Naples. With the hotel being so close, it was certainly convenient.

The other reviews of the hotel are spot on. Although it is 4 stars, the hotel has seen better days. It's not quite what you'd expect from a 4-star hotel - for example, we were there 7 nights and the sheets were changed once, and the tv was a small old-fashioned type (yes, it was a color tv with a remote control, don't worry). We weren't there to watch tv, so it didn't really matter, but I think you expect nicer amenities and decorations and a more modern bathroom, for a 4-star. The bed was huge, the closet space was immense and the free in-room safe is nice to have. We had room 503 - the views of the bay and the sunsets were amazing.

We were glad to have chosen half-board. Going out and looking for a restaurant every night gets tiring. The food in the hotel was delicious, and it's not your typical self-service style, so you really feel like you're going out for dinner - not a feeding frenzy around the buffet table. The soups and pastas were very good, as well as the fish option and meat.

We were very happy to have chosen this hotel, and would certainly recommend it.

I agree with most peoples views about the hotel and would come back again.
Excellent location - very close to the centre without hearing any noise from the street.
Comfortable bedroom and beds.
Food was great. You had a choice of around 4 to 5 starters, main and you choose your pudding. My only criticism is that the second you finished your starter the waiters bought out the main meal and it came to fast.
The lunch menu was good value and the drinks were reasonable.
We only stayed there for 3 nights as an extension of a Archers Direct tour of Italy and wished we could have stayed longer. It was the nicest hotel we stayed at on our trip.

We have just had a great 2wks at the Cesare, nice clean hotel food was good spacious bedroom great location 2/3 mins to the main sq very hot while we were there still 30+degrees at night time, pool small but plenty of sunbeds also quiet round pool for most of the day as a lot of guests are sightseeing, dont bother with organised trips much cheaper to do it on your own we went to Pompei/mount Vesuvius and Capri easy to do on your own, night life was good lots of restauarants/bars and great to end the evening at Faunos bar with a glass of wine watching the world go by would stay at this hotel again

This hotel was obviously something in its day. There are photos in the lobby of Sophia Loren staying there. And not much has happened since. The rooms had the most uncomortable beds. They were hard as rocks. We ended up piling bedspreads and blankets on them, then topping that with a sheet to sleep on top of to keep the springs from poking us. Our rooms looked out on the street, but there were lemon trees across the street and the hills. A view of the garden would have been nicer. We did have a nice balcony which we would have used if the weather had not been unbearably hot. The bathrooms were a bit small. The shampoo came in little ketchup-style packets which felt cheap. No lotion or other amenties.

The halls and lobby were dated. This place felt like it had once been a grand dame of the area and had slowly faded.

The garden here is a lovely terrace that could be very nice if they fixed the fountain.

The breakfast was fine, but the waiters were a bit gruff. The desk staff was impossible. There seemed to be only one man who spoke English. The other staff was very, very young and always appeared frightened and stunned when we talked to them. They could not give directions or advice about anything. Their laundry service took 2 full days, which did not work in our itinerary so I ended up doing laundry in the tub.

I will rave about the location though. It is very conveniently located and made it easy to go to and from the main square and shopping and restaurant areas (if you don't mind going up and down a lot of stairs to get there). Even though this is near the water, you won't see any of it until you walk down to the town to a small viewing area.

There is a rooftop pool, but it was quite small and the lounge chairs are directly surrounding it. We didn't go in because it all felt too cramped.

I would probably look for something a bit more updated next time, but the rooms were clean and spacious, even if the beds were miserable.

ok..this is a 4 star rating i would say 3 purely because there is no room service. Thats the bad bit over with. The hotel is 3 buildings away from the main square which is a hubbub of life at night, you are very close but you dont hear it, you DO hear the traffic going by,we were in back room over the garden and there is a bit of traffic noise,if your used to it already you wont notice it,i live in the sticks in a one road village! Food,we were half board, pleasant enough, buffet breakfast, SLOW toaster, scrambled and boiled egg every day, sausage/bacon,meats cheese fruit and cakes etc Coffee quite nice even though from machine.Evening meals a la carte,4 starters 4 mains, only one veggie choice if you veggie.Dessert was buffet,i had 3 different ones as i couldnt decide which looked best..my waistline tells me i did too!! We went out one night and the food was better, but at 70euro without alcohol for main course only it was bit steep
Pool..rooftop great view of sea and Vesuvius, quiet times 10-330 when people come back from days out. Its quiet,NO radios No shouting kids No anything..sun and poo and good sunbeds..perfect!
Rooms..clean clean clean..fresh bed towels etc everyday.
As i said, no room service let it down maybe, OH and the plumbing makes a bit of noise, soundproofing could have been bit better.I would go back there though, it perfectly situated.Garage 15e a night,as we had car.Limited space though. Pompei 11e vesuvius 20e.anything else, please ask.

Room Tip: Maybe ask for garden view as you get seaview then too and quieter.

This is a lovely hotel in a fantastic location. The hotel is immaculate and the staff are just incredibly helpful and friendly. We would definatley staff there again. If you need to book a transfer from the airport to the hotel they willl organise that for you if you email them with your flight details, this works out cheaper than using an online company.

Room Tip: all the rooms have a balcony and are very spacious
