“Superb hotel with lots of Italian charm”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2013

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this lovely hotel. The views from the terrace are spectacular of the harbour and Mount Vesuvius. We especially liked having dinner on the terrace each night and watching the sun set. This hotel is centrally located only a few minutes walk from Piazza Tasso but you can escape the hustle and bustle of the centre of Sorrento and really relax by the beautiful swimming pool. Even on busy days at the pool there were plenty of sunbeds and it was possible to find a shady spot as the weather was extremely hot. The other advantage is that you can also swim in the sea as the hotel has its own bathing platform. We travelled with our 14 year old daughter and were delighted with such a spacious bedroom with entrance hall and large bathroom too. Plenty of room to hang up all your holiday clothes and also lots of good quality hangers too. We really appreciated the air conditioning in the room and although our room faced the side of the hotel and the road we weren't at all disturbed by any noise. Breakfast buffet was excellent with plenty of choice and the menu at dinner was different each night of our 11 night stay. Whilst we were there it was the Italian holiday of 'Ferragosto' and the hotel did a gala dinner with entertainment which was worthy of 5*. All staff at the hotel are very attentive to their customers' needs. Thanks go especially to Pepe and Luigi in the dining room who worked extremely hard to make our stay so enjoyable. If you are looking for a hotel that is full of Italian character then you won't be disappointed .

Room Tip: Room 114 was very spacious and the air conditioning was very efficient. From the side balcony we co...

Overall a great place to stay. Short walk into the main square of Sorrento but far enough away from it so its not too noisy. Rooms are a good size and very comfortable. Views from many of the rooms are great (either full or partial sea views) although noted that there are rooms at the back of the hotel facing the street. Staff were excellent, only to happy to help with restaurant choices, tourist information etc. Pool area and sunbathing area below that are beautiful, sunbathing area also allows direct access to swim in the sea. The best feature of this hotel however would have to be the bar/terrace...amazing views out over the bay of Naples, great place to have a pre dinner drink as the sun sets. Would definitely stay here again!

We agree a true find. The rooms on the front overlook the town but they are not overly noisy. The terrace for food and drinks has views that are the envy of others, and the hotel has direct access to the Bay of Naples with superb bathing deck and pool. Recommended as a romantic place to stay within a few minutes of the railway station, bus station and town centre. No real drawbacks at all. All of the staff including front of house, restaurant and cleaners were very obliging. The name "Grand Hotel" should be a give away too.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back overlook the Bay of Naples but all rooms seem fine

What a find! An enchanting hotel with plenty of Italian character.Yes I agree with others that a front room is a little noisy as it faces the main coach park. When in Italy do as the Italians do,siesta in the afternoon and stay up late.Food was delicious with a lot of choice for breakfast and evening meal. The staff are so friendly and welcoming ,speak good English and do appreciate it when you do attempt to speak a little Italian.Superb pool and decking area overlooking the little harbour.Meals were taken on the dining terrace overlooking Vesuvio, and the bay of Naples, what a view.Take a coffee or drink in the evening on the terrace and watch the boats and cruise ships. A five minute walk into town either through the park located directly opposite or turn right out of the hotel with the chance to find little streets and shops to explore. We did not have any problems with the cleanliness of the rooms.

Room Tip: Rooms at the rear are quieter.

What a wonderful location, took the train down from Rome for a overnight stay, wish it had been longer!! Hotel is located 2 short blocks from train station directly straight down to ocean, Hotel is a lovely old monument on a cliff overlooking the beautiful sea, you take a elevator down through the cliff, which puts you down at sea level and a deck that goes out over the sea with lounge chairs to soak up the sun and take a dip in the sparkling sea, fabulous!! are room unfortunetly overlooked the street and was rather noisy, I would had preferred a ocean view but I made my reservation last minute and street room was it, decoration was done in royal old fashion style, my room only had a shower,I am a bath person so this was a dissapointment, the morning breakfast is set in a great room overlooking a beautiful patio with wonderful views, can find no fault here. Sorrento becomes very busy at night stores staying open to 11pm, absolutely enchanting village, with stores letting you taste there lemoncello, enjoy the beauty of this beautiful town.

Room Tip: pick oceanview room, street rooms noisy

after arriving at the Naples airport and spotting at a glimpse the Naples shanty town we eventually were dropped off at our destination we were absolutely stunned at how wonderful this hotel looked we were met with a beautiful open spacious marble hallway and spralling lounge areas with luxurious seating and crystal chandeliers and a brilliant large picture made in marketry of Sorrento which led on to a spralling spotlessly gleaming bar done out in Italian ornate furniture as you walked through you are met with a white heaven looking restaurant bathed in streaming sunshine with sparkling glasswear and cutlery and crisp white table cloths and a complementing flower placed in a white china vase the floors were cool marble and white columns with fresh flowers decorated the walkway which led to the large outdoor terrace covered dining area with its stunning views of the bay of Naples and the mighty Vesuvius looking right back at you,
you then take a couple of steps down to the outside terrace lounge area where you can peer over the edge to see the pool and private pontoon with access by foot by gradual walkway or by a lift inside the hotel the room we had was lovely we could see out over the bay it had its own balcony and a very much apreciated air conditioning the bathroom was spacious (my only gripe was the bathroom which could do with an update) apart from that it was spotless.
The staff were very friendly we will miss Pepe,JB,Angela and Luigi, they were extremely attentive and very welcoming and fun "i will miss the extra puddings JB!!!"
this must be one of or the best hotels to stay in Sorrento it was utterly supurb i would not stay anywhere else if we ever returned again

Room Tip: Email the hotel ask them to do the utmost to provide your specific requirements prior your stay

Horrible bedroom over looking coach park, and a resident tramp. We were charged a £30pp supplement for the privilege although we were categorically assured by the staff that the only rooms with supplements were sea view rooms. Dreadful bathroom, no toilet paper, dirty towels from previous guests, filthy shower which hotel changed on 5th day of our stay, bedding not changed during 7 night stay. Tour guide ingenious, made no attempt to sort problems out in resort. Told to resolve issues back in the UK. Unhelpful customer care who basically could not care less. You have been warned.USE RIVIERA AT YOUR PERIL because if things don't work smoothly they could not care less!! Their mantra, "people are our passion" is a joke.

Room Tip: Hotel of 2 halves. Bedrooms horrid. Restaurant and its staff excellent
