“Mixed feelings”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2013

My daughter and I stayed at this hotel in late September this year and we loved the views the hotel has to offer. The place was really clean and we had a very nice room with a garden view. It was really pretty and we definitely enjoyed this side of things. However when it came to food ( we decided to go half board), it was a total disappointment. There was no flavour at all, to the point that we decided to write off the half board we booked and went out to town to eat, which was fantastic. Breakfast is pretty poor, not very good quality stuff at all. So, I would definitely recommend to go for B&B only and eat in town. All in all, lovely views but something was missing there...

Dear Guest,

thank you very much for sharing your experience at the Grand Hotel Capodimonte with the Trip Advisor community.

We are glad you appreciated the cleanliness of our hotel, together with the stunning views it has to offer.

However, we are quite surprised by your comments about the food, we are sorry if you were disappointed but we understand that, since we cater every day for hundreds of guests, it is not very easy to satisfy all tastes. Especially the remark regarding our breakfast surprised us, since we often get complimented for the huge variety of pastries, hot and cold specialties, omelettes on order and other delicacies on offer.

We hope that you will give us another chance to show you the improvements in the quality and variety of the meals.

Until then, please accept our

i have been to Sorrento for years - for 37 years actually . i have stayed in many beautiful hotels but never felt i walked into paradise ..
with Hotel Capodimonte i felt this from the moment i entered . staff were helpful and smiling. check in was exemplary . room was beautiful -ceramic tiles - beautiful bathroom - comfortable and wonderful in every way , yet i have been in many five star hotels and beautiful bedrooms - it was not that - it was the niceness of the staff - the rooms were so so clean and the cleaning ladies could not do enough for us . the restaurant manager was so funny and friendly -- with white jacket during day and black at night ..always joking and smiling even at 6.30am in morning. ..but most of all the kind and charming manger - a more senior gentleman who was at the restaurant at swimming pool in the evening- i do not remember name - but he was so charming and interesting and made us so welcome there ...the pool restaurant was a dream ..the lemon souffle was incredible and the fresh fish too ...the magic of that restaurant is inestimable - it is like walking in a beautiful romantic film ...everything perfect , everything beautiful - the class and beautiful taste in the decoration and artwork inside hotel was magnificent - the open air areas were so impressive ..it was dreamlike . the music at the pool was so wonderful that after dinner we stayed there till the last song ..the singer has the most beautiful voice - really top class - and i sy that as a classical musician who sits in many orchestra pits with many famous sopranos singing....the only criticism i would make is that the piano accompaniment was by a young man who seemed determined to drown out that beautiful singing voice with extremely loud bass and beat and an insistence on jazzing every son up to the point of annoyance -what is wrong with a ballad in such a beautiful setting .also there seemed an obsession to play dico beat music in spite of the fact that no one dance - they wanted to chat and listen .this lack of sensitivity surprised me because one of the most important attributes of any public performer is to be sensitive to their audience.

in spite of this , it was a magical evening, the hotel was wonderful in every way . the staff is really great ..the taste and beauty is outstanding ...this hotel is perfect for any occasion ...i will return ..

Room Tip: if you want a view and balcony ask for one in advance.

What else can I say?! This hotel was awesome. We just loved it.

I was traveling to the Amalfi Coast on a short timeframe with another girlfriend and it was the perfect stay us. The views of the Ocean and area, even from our room, were spectacular! We even had a lovely patio. The breakfast, which was included in our room rate, was worth having. There was something for everyone to enjoy – from fresh fruit to made-to-order omelets. We were able to have it outdoors on the terrace with stunning area views. The staff were so friendly and wonderful as well … always helpful when we needed directions/information on our tours/outings. The rooms were well maintained and were surprisingly spacious with lovely European tiles. And, the location could not have been more perfect! We could easily walk to the rail and bus station (20 minutes) into town and the surrounding area for hikes/walks and the port while being high enough to have the magnificent views of the ocean and town.

While planning our trip as we were going to France as well, we were really so undecided about which town we were going to stay in to see the Amalfi Coast as friends had different opinions. But, Sorrento was the ideal location for us to get around to tour Positano, Amalfi, Capri and even to visit Pompeii. There were other choices of hotels but we are so, very happy we chose this one. I really can’t say more about this hotel as it surpassed every single one of our expectations and I will come back again and again and I am and will continue to recommend this hotel to all of my family and friends as it is the best hotel – hands down - to stay at in Sorrento!

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the 8th floor and above pool side! You will have the best views of the surroundin...

We had a wonderful 10 day holiday in Sorrento to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary, staying at the Grand Hotel Capodimonte. Everything about the hotel was fabulous - the view over the bay from the restaurant was spectacular, with always ships and boats to watch, the pools were lovely with plenty of sunbeds, there was a great selection of food for breakfast and evening meals, and our room with a sea view was perfect. The staff were very helpful and friendly, with excellent English! The hotel is only a short walk from the town - in less than ten minutes you are in the main square. The small narrow shopping streets in the old town are fascinating and we spent a few very enjoyable days here, soaking up the atmosphere. Take the lift from public gardens down through the rock to the marina if you don't want to risk the hundreds of steps, and the little train with audio guide is good to do at the start of your holiday to get your bearings. We took day trips to Pompeii, The Amalfi Drive and Capri. Pompeii was fascinating and we could have spent more time there. The Amalfi Drive, visiting Positano and Amalfi was beautiful with breathtaking scenery. Capri was lovely and the chairlift to the top of the Island is well worth doing. A wonderful holiday and we would definitely return to the Grand Hotel Capodimonte.

Room Tip: If you can, get a room with a sea view

Great hotel.Amazed at such a short easy walk into town.we were half board and the evening meals were very good. Sometimrs the service was a little slow but usually first rate.
My only critisisms of the hotel was that the fantastic swimming pools were freezing cold and so never used. Also feel that a hoyel of this quality should supply bath robes and complimentary cofffee making facilities in your room. Toiletries were restocked regularly. Rooms were a little noisy st times du to ceramic tiles in corridors and case wheels
Despite these pointd if we were to return to Sorentto we would definitely stay at the Capodimonte again.

Room Tip: Must have a sea view

Dear Guest,

Many thanks for sharing your review of our Hotel with Trip advisor community.

We are always very happy to read the feedbacks of our customers because they always give useful advice.

Thanks for appreciating our central location 10 minutes' walk from the center but at the same time in a calm and quiet location from where you can enjoy an incredible view over the Napoli bay.

Our swimming pools are among the most beautiful in Sorrento with their cascade design so special and elegant, unfortunately in those period it can happen that water is a bit cold due to the rain that unfortunately we had at the end of September.

We are already looking forward to your next visit,

Best Wishes

We requested a balcony and views and were not disappointed. We came for a special occasion and a bottle of wine was waiting, just an example of the attention to detail. Hotel is large and while embedded into the hillside on various floors, it works well. Great atmosphere, staff, furnishings eat it was a joy to stay there. It's also a short and straightforward walk into the town but there is an optional taxi, which some may favour. We only had breakfast so cannot comment on the food other than this, the experience of eating in the town is worth having. Overall we really enjoyed the stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a volcano view!

We have recently returned from our holiday in Sorrento staying at the fabulous hotel Capodimonte
This was the 19th time we have stayed at this hotel and it just goes from strength to strength. I remember the very first time we arrived at the hotel we thought it was fabulous then and we still get that feeling every time we stay there. The cleanliness is excellent, the food superb, and the Al a carte restaurant is well worth a visit, or two! All the staff are friendly and nothing is two much trouble with all guests whether or not you have stayed at the hotel previously. Should you have any problem at all they are only two happy to help. We never tire of watching new guests arrive taking in the fabulous views from the hotel, wherever they happen to be. Needless to say we are counting the days to our next visit in August 2014.
