“Great Hol!!”

We stayed at the Hotel Capodimonte and after reading some of the reviews were a bit apprehensive to say the least, as although only staying for a week it was not a cheap holiday. Much to our relief we did not need to worry at all and had a great stay during our time there. Our flight was delayed which meant that we did not actually arrive at the hotel until about 10:30pm on the first night and the staff in the restaurant had stayed to make sure that we were able to have dinner. The quality of the food on that first evening was not good but this was not the standard that we had for the rest of the week. Any time we ate there the food although not the finest cuisine was of a good standard. We had upgraded our room and this is maybe why we had a really nice room, but did not hear any of the other guests complaining about theirs either. Our room was at the front of the hotel where there are the best views and yes we were above the road but I can honestly say this did not bother us at all even the couple of mornings that we had a lie in. The staff were very friendly and helpful, we had a problem with our toilet and I broke the door key in the lock and both times these were fixed within half an hour. This is a typical Italian hotel and if you want plush carpets and a modern surrounding this is not the place for you. We had a great holiday and will be recommending this hotel to friends who are going to Sorrento later in the year.
We are usually independant travellers and this was the first package holiday that we had booked for a number of years. We booked through First Choice and one thing we did find beneficial was the tour of the town that they do on the first morning. There is a bit of selling involved but not too in your face and was good to get your bearings if like us you have never been to Sorrento before. We did book one excursion to Pompeii and Vesuvius and were glad that we did this as it might have been difficult to do this without a car, and also the guide that we had was very good. Everything else we did on our own using public transport and saved quite a bit by doing so.

“Very Nice”

Grand Hotel Capodimonte

May 17, 2008

Staff extremely helpful and friendly. Very nice general areas, food good. Waiters try hard but dinner service is S L O W. No way of getting through fast unless you miss out loads of it. People waiting outside restaurant from 7.30 to be seated which shows the whole thing is not set up for the numbers they have booked in, and it's only May. Having said that you can't help but love 'em. Fantastic views from general hotel. View from back hotel rooms could be a lot nicer if they tidied up the walls and put a bit of effort into the, or should I say `a' planting scheme. Sure sea view rooms are lovely but you pay the price especially if you are a family needing two rooms. Feed the kids during the day at restaurants in town to avoid the service at dinner which starts at 7pm and it too late and long for them to be expected to sit through patiently. Nice and close to the main square, try out the small side streets that run behind main road through for lots of lovely little shops and restaurants. Pool not heated so be very hot before you get in and you'll surive it. Overall very nice hotel that I would go back to, nothing's perfect is it.

We only stayed here for one night, but found the hotel to be very nice. Our room was large, clean, and had a great view of the water. A short walk into Sorrento (but not if you're hauling luggage).

We stayed at the Grand hotel capodimonte for 1 week in april 08 to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary. The hotel was fantastic! Rooms spotless clean with fresh linen daily.

The food was fantastic and staff in restaurant were very friendly and helpful- lots of choice- even for breakfast and we were never rushed , even in the busy mornings.

Overall we would reccomend this hotel for anyone who is looking for a quiet , peaceful get away- can't wait to book up and return again soon!

“Sorrento on my Mind!”

My husband and I stayed in the Grand Hotel Capodimonte in Sorrento for our Honeymoon four years ago, returned the next year and have just booked to go back again this year..and we can't wait.
Of course the service can be a tad 'huffy', but that's just Italians (I know my dad is from Naples and half my are family there). If you smile and try the odd Italian word they love it!
The rooms are great, wonderful, just think Italian romance, not perfect, new, shiny 5* British standards.
We usually prefer modern hotels, however, this is just the best. The food, although good, doesn't compare to the restaurants in Sorrento, but they are just trying to make it a little more meat/veg. as most half board hotels do.
Yes, it ain't cheap, but where is in Italy? If you want to go to the corner shop to save a few Euros for a beer maybe try Benidorm.
Just look through the photo gallery..amazing!
Oh, make sure to book a sea view or partial sea view. Both are excellent.
