“hotel spicy restaurant best in italy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2013

We did not stay in the hotel but we did eat in the restaurant by recommendation. It is a little outside the town of sorrento although they do offer a pick up and drop off service. The food was the best food we had in Italy. The service was great and the owner was so friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this restaurant!

Staff were very helpful and welcoming, providing map of local area, directions to the cliffs (from which you can swim in the crystal clear waters) and restaurant recommendations. The room was modern, clean and with a small balcony. There was a bus stop around the corner to go into town. I think it was a great value hotel and the walk down to the sea made it perfect for a few days sunbathing on the cliffs. I was easy to get into Sorrento for a visit or use of the free restaurant pickups available (parking is however expensive and Sorrento is very touristy).

Be aware that the path down to the cliffs is quite steep and it takes a while, especially on the way up, however, it was definitely worth it.

Upon arrival to Hotel Spicy, I was greeted by a very friendly receptionist and shown our room. Although the hotel is a bit of a trek outside Sorrento (if you're walking, though it is on a bus route), the views from our balcony were well worth it. The bathroom was a bit basic but it was all we needed for one night's stay and the price was excellent. Breakfast was a typical Italian affair with lots of pastries and cakes, perfect for a sweet tooth! The only complaint I have was that it was extremely windy during our stay and the firedoors were very noisy, with a very loud whistle every time there was a large gust.

If you want a cheap hotel on the outskirts of sorrento then you could consider this. hhowever be aware that it is a long way out of town on a dangerous road with no paths. The walls are paper thin and there is no lift or bar. The shower cubicle was tiny i could hardly fit in it. Breakfast was more like afternoon tea with just cakes or pizza, normal bread was a problem. There are very few bars or restaurants nearby and we were directed in the pouring rain to a pizzeria that wad shut.

A newly renovated old mansion overlooking the bay of Sorrento and nearly a km from the city centre. The walk into the city is dangerous ( no pavement for the first 400 m) the rooms and reception are light and airy breakfast was plentiful and alongside the free parking and free wifi were big pluses however the rooms were cold and with only luke warm water a real negative

Its too far out of the town

Hotel is on the top of the hill, following a long narrow street. The view from the balcony or terrasse is beutiful. It's a bit far from the center but there are regular buses that run and stop just a few meters from the hotel. From the railway station there is a direct bus (ask the driver if he's going on via Capo). Our driver was so kind that left us just in front the hotel.
The room are nice and clean and the breakfast has the basic. Staff is young and very helpful. I recommend you to visit the Regina Giovanna Gulf: an amazing savage beach close to the hotel. It's free of charge and the water is cristal clear. I would defenetly come back to hotel Spicy.

Great view of bay and mountains from top floor balcony. Beds are singles pushed together with sheets too small but we had no problem sleeping well. Tiny shower with no "caddy" to hold soap, shampoo, etc. Management can fix this. Nice breakfast area and good breakfast selections.

The fatal flaw is the location along a steep winding road above the city with fast traffic and nothing resembling a sidewalk. Bus stop & tickets are just around the corner, a blind corner where traffic races by. Use the traffic mirrors and orient yourself carefully before sprinting across the road out of the hotel's street entrance. A failure to maintain situational awareness could be fatal. Returning by bus at night is seriously risking your life. Worse yet the hotel entrance is dark with no light, attention management. We're older but agile. Children and seniors not athletically quick should avoid this hotel. Sorrento cabbies are thieves, so that's not an option. Staff recommended restaurants will drive you back, they're nice but they're NOT inexpensive.

Too bad as the staff was very charming and accommodating.

Room Tip: Top floor has views
