My girlfriend and I booked into this hotel 7 months ago for 4 days and nights along with another hotel on the island of Capri.
As you can imagine we were both looking forward to a romantic holiday of film fame.
Sorrento definitely lived up to our dreams and the hotel measured up quite well. When I say quite well I will explain the many pluses and then the minor irritations. The hotel is right on the bend of a busy main road so you have to watch your self when crossing to catch the bus. It is a lovely looking hotel when you walk up to it. Inside recption is fairly small but friendly. As you walk through the main door it is a very pleasant area and large open space that gives the inpression of quite posh. After booking in and getting your keys you enter a very tiny and slow lift, which suits the slow pace of Italy. Getting into the room, a superior sea view, was nearly as we imagined it from the pictures on the web site. It had, thankfully, triple glazing as it would have been unbearable with the cars going up the steep hill. The balcony was not very big and open to the ones either side. The view was fantastic, looking down to Sorrento took your breath away. Also the balcony overlooked a nice size and pretty swimmming pool. The best part was the restaurant in our view. It was a nice size and well laid out with probably the best service we have ever had. Apparantly it is a family run hotel which is probably why the service was excellent. Funny enough they had a floor show with ballerina type girls dancing in a small area. The food was of a high standard and varied. As we are quite fit we did enjoy the walk down to the town via a well laid out pathway opposite the hotel entrance. This had great views on the way down and took about 20 minutes. But please understand it was quite steep and you need to be fairly active. We did climb back up but was fairly demanding.
The minus side was reading the hotel directory book in the room and finding that you had to pay for the sun loungers and the beach towels. Also no kettles are allowed as they said it is different electricty and could blow the place up. As seasoned travellers who need a morning cup of tea we took no notice but made sure we hid the stuff when going out. You were also told it was against the rules to use their fridge for your own personall things, all very petty and uneccesary in our view, kind of put the damper on things. The room itself was not too big but the down side was the storage space. We did not have a wardrobe, our clothes were hung on a pole and hangers by the door. There was only 4 drawers, all very small so we ended up with our belongings all on show. The bathroom was small and compact with a daft jacuzzi bath the shape of a figure of 8. It was very uncomfortable and god knows why you would want one in the first place. Once again the storage space, ie shelves to put all your toilet items was non-existant. We had to put stuff on the floor to be able to put essentials on the sink, shame spoilt a good hotel. My girlfriend said to say the tiles were great.
