“A Holiday in Sorrento”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2012

This hotel is a class act. We arrived late, about 9pm, to be greeted with a wonderful meal, when in most places we would have expected a sandwich. The staff were all extremely pleasant and professional and reacted quickly to our every request, nothing was too much trouble. We loved the position of the hotel, high on a hill overlooking the bay towards Ischia and Capri. It's a little way out of town away from the hustle and bustle and noise but close enough particularly when you take into account the hotel shuttle bus which runs regularly throughout the day and evening.
The hotel restaurant was beautifully clean and nicely decorated and the service excellent. The standard of the food was high and the choices quite extensive, with the size of portions being more than adequate. The pool area and bar was really nice and very relaxing with plenty of sun loungers and easy chairs for those who just want to admire the view down into Sorrento.
The rooms were comfortable and always well stocked with everything you would need. There was no perceptable noise from either other rooms or corridors with the only noise coming from the quite busy main road and triple glazed windows eliminated all this when you needed to.
We would definitely return to The Aminta, it has left a firm inprint in our memory, it's a well run hotel with some wonderful staff, some of whom have been there for over 30 years.

Room Tip: If you select a pool view you still have a wonderful view over Sorrento. The sea view on the other...

Such a lovely hotel with amazing views, staff, food, weather and location!
Free shuttle bus to Sorrento is great and convenient, the rooms are lovely and the food is very well priced in the hotel!
Watching the sunset from the hotel and waking up to views of Mount Vesuvius are priceless!
I would return to this hotel tomorrow and i would recommend it to anyone! Great relaxing holiday!

Room Tip: Definitely go for a room with a balcony and a view!

With ownership always on site the staff was extaordinarily friendly and responsive to our every need. The facility is immaculate and the views are breathtaking. We stayed at the Aminta for a week after spending a fast paced week in Barcelona. It was the perfect transition to a more relaxed and personal experience in a well run family owned resort.

We selected the Grand Hotel Aminta as appearing to be the the best value for money, its general rating on TripAdvisor and the fact that that one could get a sunset view room across the bay towards Capri.

We arrived mid afternoon and one could not fault the welcome we received in reception, having got over the shock of a €22.50 taxi bill for the 3 kilometre drive from Tasso Square (it's on the meter the driver had told us - and it was).

The promise of a stunning view from our balcony out across the Bay of Naples was fulfilled, everything was clean and tidy and the double bed extremely comfortable.

The hotel have a free shuttle bus that runs every hour into the town centre starting at 9 am with a last run back at 11.30 pm. It misses a couple of hours at lunch time and again thre is no 10.00 p.m. down or return.

It is also possible to walk down the old road into town which takes about 20 minutes if one utilizes the steps which cut off many of the hairpins. Coming back up is a bit of an effort and it it easy to miss the turn off to the hotel . The staff were horrified that we had done it after dark and advised against a repeat performance.

Breakfast is buffet style although it is possible to order from the waiters who circulate with coffee and tea. Personally I preferred to mix and match continental and crispy bacon.

We did not eat in the restaurant as there was such a good choice in the town at exceptionally reasonable rates.

The bar was comfortable and it prides itself in the number of whiskeys available - apparently over a hundred including a number of Islay malts. They also have an enviable selection of Grappa without which no Italian holiday is complete.

Cons? We could hear the television in the next room even when the volume was turned down. They have them back to back on wall mounts and I suspect that the power boxes are shared between the rooms. Also any movement in the corridor was clearly audible. We had to request additional shower gel twice before it appeared and our towels were removed but not replaced on one occasion.

Pros?? Spotlessly clean and pleasant helpful staff . Beautiful views from the 2nd and 3rd third floors at least.

There were a number of regulars, who had been returning for a number of years, staying so it obviously has a great appeal for some.

Perhaps we are too picky but we will return to Sorrento but not the Aminta.

Room Tip: Ask for a sunset or sunrise view on 2nd or 3rd floor

Having stayed at the Aminta 6 years ago and really enjoyed it we were looking forward to returning. We were not disappointed - all the staff were really friendly and helpful, food was great with good choices and generous portions and the two special themed dinner nights were amazing. Room was big, very clean and had fantastic views across the bay. Location for Sorrento is great, there is a regular hotel bus service but the walk down the lane to the town is only 10 minutes and the views you get as you go down are fantastic. We used the bar on the terrace most evenings and it is beautiful, no more expensive than in town and the service is brilliant. A most relaxing and great holiday and I would recomend the hotel to anyone staying in Sorrento.

Room Tip: Rooms on the 3rd and 4th floors on the North and West sides have great views across the bay

My partner and I stayed in the Grand Hotel Aminta in July 2012 for 7 nights his birthday, travelling with Thomson. We arrived late in the evening on the 9th but the hotel provided us with a late night cold meal. We requested a sea view double room with balcony, and were happily surprised when we got to our room to see not one but two king size double beds! Our room was fully air conditioned and we had a built in bath and shower in our bathroom. The rooms were quiet and you couldn’t hear the other guests, which was perfect because of the amount of trips that we took. The pick-up point for the trips is just outside the hotel, which is ideal and the walkway down to the town starts behind this pick up point (note, the track is very steep and not ideal for walking back up at night, as my partner and I discovered one night, but is perfect for walking down during the day.) The pool was clean and the bar and waiter service friendly, all of whom spoke brilliant English (and taught us some Italian too!). The reception staff were also amazing and incredibly helpful and knowledgeable (my partner and I agreed that without them we would have been lost!). The food was wonderful, and we ate on the terrace one evening (it was well worth it as the views are spectacular, you can see Mount Vesuvius across the bay). There is a shuttle bus service, but this fills up very quickly and sometimes we had to walk down to town (which takes 15-20 minutes and is steep in some places). This was our only trouble with our stay at the Aminta, and even then it is incredibly minor! We would highly recommend staying here and it was the perfect holiday. Thank you Grand Hotel Aminta!

Room Tip: Pay the extra for a balcony room with sea view. It was worth the money and made our trip even more r...

Just back from 10 lovely days at the Aminta. Without recapping what has been said too much; the hotel has amazing views, friendly staff, and a great starting point for all the main tourist spots in the area.

Surprised to read a couple of negative points on food, location, and price. My wife and I walked into Sorrento every day (if not twice a day) and didn't use the shuttle bus once. It's a 10 minute walk down hill, and 20 minute walk up. Food was great, with a broad range of choices in the restaurant. We used the bar most days and, while not cheap, is no more expensive than anywhere in Sorrento itself. We also had one of the 'attic rooms' which was an adequate size and had the best views in the hotel.

Only comment to folk in there 20's and 30's is that you'll be outnumbered age wise. Otherwise a smashing holiday and a very good hotel.

Room Tip: Use the local trains to get to Naples, Pompei etc. Cheap and easy to use.
