“Hotel Bristol is exceptional!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012

We stayed at Hotel Bristol during our trip to Sorrento in October 2012. The hotel is located just up the hill overlooking Sorrento. It is a short 10 minute walk from the main part of town and it is walkable from the train station if you don't have any luggage or heavy bags. We had no issues walking to/from the hotel at any time of day - we left for a few tours early in the morning and walked back up after a late dinner a few nights without any problem. The walk is well worth the experience of staying at Hotel Bristol. The entire staff is extremely friendly and welcoming. I don't think I've ever been treated as well at a hotel as I have at Hotel Bristol, and I used to travel 100% for my job for a number of years and stayed in hotels all over the world. The staff at the front desk always welcomed us and asked if there was anything we needed every time we went in/out of the hotel. The room (645) and balcony were very large, and the view was amazing. Being higher up on the hill made the view even more amazing. The bathroom was also very large with a strong rain shower head. Aside from the shower not being fully enclosed (which is typically in most European countries) this was one of the best showers I've ever used. The room had blue tile floor and white walls/furniture so it was easy to tell that it was very clean. We had breakfast included with our room rate. The breakfast was the best of what we had in Italy and there were different options each day. We didn't have lunch at the hotel but we did have dinner there one night. We thought the dinner was as good as the other restaurants we ate at in Sorrento and surprisingly the price was not significantly higher for being in a hotel. The wait staff at the restaurant was extremely attentive and always remembered us each morning for breakfast, including what we ordered. We didn't use the roof top pool but it looked very nice when we went to check out the roof top balcony and pool. The hotel also arranged for a driver to take us back to the train station in Naples as we did not want to take the train back after carrying our luggage on the train when we came in to Sorrento from Naples. Overall, this was the best hotel we stayed at on our trip to Italy (Rome, Florence, Sorrento) and we would definitely highly recommend staying at Hotel Bristol. We would definitely stay here again if we visit Sorrento again.

Room Tip: Room 645, which is a junior suite with outdoor jacuzzi, was excellent.

This is the only hotel I have ever given a cool 10/10 for... And I have stayed in A LOT of different hotels, across the globe.

First off, the service here is exceptional. From front desk staff to the breakfast concierge and wait staff, everyone is friendly, personal and go out of their way to smile and make your stay wonderful.

We stayed in one of the suites - well worth the splurge!!! The roof top pool is great, as is the view from the bar...

The only thing that wasn't great was the food - we had dinner one night here and it was pretty average- and there isn't a great lunch range at the poolside bar.... However other than that it is a fabulous hotel with a fabulous view and fantastic service... Also, the breakfast is good... Fine dining might be a let down but I was happy with the quality and range of the breakfast offered.... And wonderful to wake up an take in that view!

The hotel is a very leisurely walk into town (those reviews that suggest the walk is onerous are evidently very lazy or just have rocks in their head as its a fairly gently walk even guests in their 70's were managing it quite comfortably when we were there. Besides that, it's worth the short walk for the breath taking view.

Seriously, if I didn't live all the way in Australia I would holiday here all the time. If I lived in England it would be my annual holiday as I would love to spend a week in this hotel every year...

Sorrento is also a fantastic spot to base yourself from for various excursions around the coast. It's central, pretty and far less pretentious than possitano.

Day tripping: i would strongly advise that if you want to do a day trip to possitano / Amalfi / ravello - that you book a driver. We had the desk clerk do this and got a really great price. You can bus it of course but if your travelling in summer as we did, bare in mind the buses start/stop, some don't have aircon, and they are often packed to the hilt... Definitely worth the Eur 180 to get a driver for 4hrs and enjoy taking in the scenic route in comfort an stopping for photos and lunch where you choose. We did a day trip to Amalfi & possitano, stopping in ravello (which is a gorgeous little town not to be missed) for lunch... If you go to ravello - check out trip advisor restaurants as there are 2 amazing restaurants tucked in the hills which unless you know are there you would miss (a short walk up the hill in ravello through some side streets and you come across restaurants with amazing views, fantastic food and reasonable price tags!

For food in sorrento, I recommend the buffalo inn... Not flAsh to look at but the food is good (particularly the buffalo cheese starter and the buffalo steak main). It was the best food in sorrento. We also went to the flashy seafood place down by the wharf... Frankly - dot bother. The food is average and the prices exhorbidant. Such a let down... The fish at the restaurant in ravello was 10x better and half the price. I've no qualms spending money on food but it's disappointing when it's not good...

One last tip - if you go to pompai- go early as it gets hot and packed pretty quickly. If you say trip to Capri, get the ferry over and then barter with one of the boatman for a private skip. We made the mistake of going with a bigger tour group an it was truly aweful. It's my only regret of our entire holiday... Wish we had spent the money on a private skip instead of being packed on a bigger boat like a squished sardeen. Plenty of time for that when you go into the grotto!! Open air taxis on the island are fun but pricey.

My husband and I decided to join our first organzed tour, ever, with Conway Tours from Rhode Island. Conway Tours located this fabulous hotel which has so much to offer one must check out their website www.bristolsorrento.com.

Our first impression was location, location, location. The hotel is just a 10-15 minute walk from downtown Sorrento. It is very safe and there is plenty do to. First and foremost was the amazing staff. They were extremely accommodating whether it be the front desk, the dining room, or lounge. The dining room was simply lovely overlooking the harbor and offered one terrific dish after another. We stayed for one week and the food preparations and selections were delicious. Cruise ships and sailboats came in periodically outlining their frames via lights. Unfortunately the swimming pool closes October end so we just have to return a bit earlier next time.

The rooms were fully tiled and extremely clean. We would suggest an iron be available without request from the front desk. Housekeeping was offered daily and thinking back, we never saw them during our stay. Excellent choice of hotels if you wish to visit Amalfi coast, Positano, Sorrento and Capri Island.

Room Tip: During our stay A/C was not needed. We requested waterview so you must consider these rooms are dir...

Our second time in Sorrento, first time at the Bristol and we'd definitely go back. We stayed for 11 nights in early October. Took a late booking with Thompson so had limited choice of room (no balcony rooms left but we picked a room with a sea view). We were really pleased to find out that our room was on the 7th floor (above the restaurant). The views are just fab. I did miss having a balcony but, being on the 7th floor, we were just a few steps away from the roof terrace, which was a lovely place to chill out and watch the goings-ons in Marina Grande below! The rooms was just right, lovely and clean and nicely furnished. The true selling points of this hotal however are the staff (always pleasant and can't do enough to help you), the service in the reastaurant and on Reception, the views (probably the best in Sorrento) and the lovely communal areas. The Bristol has a wonderful pool area and a gorgeous garden, where you can really escape from it all in the olive groves, kick back and admire the views towards Vesuvius. We went half board and I was a bit concerened when I read some of the food reviews before we travelled. I have to say, we had no complaints whatsoever. Breakfast is a typical continental affair but a great amount of choice ranging from fresh fruit, crepes, croissants, danish pastries, meats, cakes, cereals and toast. Champagne was available some mornings, which was a lovely start to the day! Evening dinner was lovely, with a great selection of dishes to chose from each night. I chose fish dishes as my main meal most evenings (the local amberjack is knockout!). The portion sizes are just right. You certainly won't go hungry! The views from the reastaurant are just breathtaking. The waiters are friendly and really helpful.
The hotel is a short uphill walk from Sorrento. There's a great little shop a few metres down the hill from the hotel which sells everything. You can buy chilled beers, wine and juice at a good price.
The staff at the Bristol are brilliant. We had to check out of our room by midday but our flight wan't until late evening. The reception staff were more than happy to look after our bags & cases, allowing us to enjoy our last day in Sorrento, and even allowed us access to a courtesy room to change & freshen up in before our coach arrived to take us back to the airport.
If you're thinking of booking the Bristol for your holiday I can highly recommend it. The view alone is worth it!

Room Tip: Make sure you bag yourself a sea view room. If you're not lucky enough to secure a room with bal...

We had a very enjoyable week at Hotel Bristol. Lovely hotel with lots of outdoor seating, rooftop pool, gardens and wonderful view over Sorrento town and bay. Towels provided at pool. Hot and cold breakfast of good standard and very good evening meals with waiter service.

Very convenient location. About 15 minutes walk into centre of town down gentle incline. Town bus stops beside hotel but we never used this.

We had a large room with sitting room and 3rd bed. Large bathroom with bath and excellent shower.

All areas of the hotel were kept very clean and staff were friendly and helpful.

Lovely bar and some gentle evening entertainment but unfortunately not well attended because the temptation to go into town in the evening is so great.

We would definitely recommend this hotel and hope to return soon

What I love about this hotel:

1) The amazing view from our hotel - complete and unobstructed harbour view. I could spend hours just chilling out in the room balcony.

2) The location - only 10 - 15 min pleasant walk into heart of Sorrento which is central to great restaurants and good shoppings. Also I always felt safe even when walking at night.

3) The friendly waiters in restaurant - They always led us to the best available seats at the time, which almost always come with a seaview. The waiters work tirelessly, walking up and down the restaurant to ensure all guests are looked after.

4) The fantastic full buffet breakfast menu - there was so much yummy food to eat, I wished I had stayed in this hotel a little longer so that I could try out all the different cakes that they served.

5) Beautifully furnished and enormous rooms - I felt very spoilt.

6) Very clean

7) Helpful and friendly concierge

Final words - Absolutely great value for money. Loved it loved it loved!

Room Tip: I stayed in a lower balcony room which I thought was 10 out of 10. However if you are short on cash...
