“A real nest!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2006

What a surprise after our ride by car to find this gem out of the blue! It's worth the few miles you have to do to get there by all means! The place is like a small paradise, the owner Dino very pleasant and helpful (he speaks French too - he made us feel at home). The restaurant has a terrace with a beautiful view on the Bay of Naples. We even had fireworks two nights in a row! The food, the service, excellent! I highly recommend it. Once you are there, there is a bus taking you downtown every hour if you don't want to take your car. Merci Dino. An unforgettable experience!

Found this hotel referred by a traveler on Rick Steves' website. It seemed a little far from downtown Sorrento when the taxi was taking us, but the downtown accomodations turned out to be noisy. They have an included shuttle bus to downtown once an hour (or you could cab it if you're in a rush.) The view was awesome--the entire Bay of Naples. Having just arrived from Rome, a nice town but no views, the nights at the El Nido were just what we needed. The prices were reasonable at within our budget of $125 per night.

  • Liked — The view, the quiet, and the restaurant
  • Disliked — Nothing
  • Tips/Secrets — Don't stay in downtown Sorrento if you want a view and quiet.

Having stayed at the Il Nido on our first visit to Sorrento five years ago, we eagerly looked forward to our second visit. And we were not disappointed. The friendly, family atmosphere lends to the serene setting of this comfortable home away from home. The hosts and are very accomodating and willing to go the extra mile to make guests want to extend their stay. The views from the balcony are truly awesome and unforgettable. The food was excellent and as reasonably priced as the rooms. The minivan makes excursions to town a snap. We would never consider staying anywhere else in Sorrento.

Hotel Il Nido is on a hill above and to the left of Sorrento. This hotel is bright, immaculate, spacious, and very lovely. The views from the rooms and restaurant look over Naples Bay at Mt Vesuvius and the lemon groves below.
The free shuttle service every hour to the town and train station in the morning and then from the meeting point in the evening is terrific.
The breakfast is a buffet unlike the other hotels I was at. There was fruit, cheeses, meats, scrambled eggs, sausage, croissants, breads, orange juice, coffee, tea etc. Awesome.
I ate at the reastaurant every night because I was a solo traveller and going down to the town alone and finding a restaurant is tiring. The food is great and the service is friendly. It is the owner and manager who waits on you with help from another family member. They could use an additional person. It can get busy.
There are two computers for checking email, you just have to get a password from the desk to access it.
Beautiful Place to be for all age groups.

My husband and I recently stayed at the Il Nido Ristorante Hotel in the hills of Sorrento and we loved every minute. We had a nice room overlooking the Bay of Naples and Vesuvius., and the restaurant was consistantly good. It is a family run hotel, and we were treated like relatives. The free shuttle was wonderful, allowing us to go into Sorrento and come back at night. It was also easy for getting to the train station and taking the train to Pompeii. We will definitely recommend this hotel to our friends.

This place is truly a gem! The best place to stay on the Amalfi Coast (in my opinion). What could be better than having your hotel actually pick you up when you arrive at the train station. After 3 nights stay at the Il Nido, we were sad to leave. The Il Nido is situated about 5 km outside of downtown Sorrento. The view from our room was absolutely out of this world - and the best view of our entire honeymoon in Europe. The hotel offers a shuttle service that departs and returns hourly for downtown Sorrento. We loved this! It allowed us to be a part of the action and still get a chance to sit in the quiet beauty of nature. The best of both worlds. Our room was meticulously clean with well kept furnishings. The restaurant at the Il Nido is fantastic. We actually preferred the food at the restaurant to all the other meals had in the Amalfi Coast area. And, you will find the buffet breakfast which is included to be great! The best breakfast's of our vacation. Also, the terrace view from the restaurant at sunset or after dark is wonderful. We will definitely be back! We dream about it all the time.

  • Liked — The views from our room.
  • Disliked — Nothing
  • Tips/Secrets — Get a higher floor room with a sea view.

Incredible views in an unassuming property. Quite the tremendouse deal. Could not have asked for a more accomodating staff.
