We just returned from a two night stay at Hotel Il Nido in September 2006. We booked the hotel after reading recommendations on a number of forums. We booked via the Internet and received prompt responses from Gianni by e-mail.
We hired a car from Naples train station to take us to the hotel. Our driver told us along the way that we'd made a great choice and we were not disappointed. Gianni checked us in promptly and described the amenities - shuttle bus, meals, and free internet (quite unusual as most hotels either don't have access or charge you for the privilege). We were on the 2nd floor, which is actually 2 flights down (rather than up). Our views were amazing and both rooms had balconies with chairs, a small table, and a little laundry line. The rooms were not amazing but clean and suitable. My parents' room had a bit of a problem with the bathroom roof leaking...and we were able to hear noise from the other rooms, but nothing excessive. For a midrange hotel we were not unduly concerned about these issues.
We ate both breakfasts and dinners at the hotel and were not disappointed. There were plenty of choices at dinner and the meal was reasonably priced. They brought diners complimentary small glasses of asti, crackers and bruschetta which was a nice touch. Breakfast was plentiful and nicely laid out - scrambled eggs, bacon, ham, a choice of breads, cereals, fresh fruit, juices, etc. Eating breakfast on the lovely patio was a great way to start off the day.
We took the very convenient shuttle in and out of the town center and on our trip out, they even dropped us at the point where we needed to catch our bus back to Naples airport (which was much appreciated).
We found the entire stay to be very pleasant and would definitely consider staying here again. For the price it can't be beat!
