Perhaps we were too casually dressed, or perhaps we didn't order a huge dinner (my sister and her friend asked to share the spaghetti bolognese), but we definitely felt unwelcome. Although the waiter knew the food was to be shared, he did not bring an extra plate. Salad, pasta and the meat course for the rest of us arrived all at once, and was plopped down on the table as the waiter stalked past, and we were left to pass each dish to the appropriate person. The food was very good, but the waiter's attitude, which we have never before encountered in gracious Italy, spoiled the atmosphere. On his final swoop past our table, he dropped the bill and told us it did not include service - without breaking stride. And we had to agree: indeed, no service had been rendered.
