“Great last dinner in southern Italy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2013

Great view, excellent food, wine, recommendations by Tony, and we really appreciated the pickup and return to our hotel to avoid a taxi charge. Fresh fish, steak, pizza, calamari, octopus, bruschetta, risotto, we had so much food that we could not manage dessert. Very friendly and helpful staff.

“Wedding reception”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2013

So this is a little late as we had our reception in august but here it is. Amazing! we could not say enough good things about this place. We had booked it sight unseen through our wedding planner so we were slightly nervous about what the food and the atmosphere would be like.

We arrived at a very unassuming venue and walked into a fairly open plan restaurant with a couple of balcony's. We were picked up by the restaurant staff and met at the door by the owner. he was great! instantly put us at ease he asked us what we wanted, we told him and he said " not a problem" and nothing was.

I would highly recommend there house wine which you can only get there it was delicious! and the food spectacular! brace yourself s for the portions!! we had the full 4 courses for our reception and it wasn't until the 3rd massive plateful came out ( as we all ate family style ) that we realised this was still the starter!? the food did not stop coming out for a solid 5 hours the wine was flowing we sat on the smaller balcony which overlooked the bay and straight onto mount Vesuvius, stunning view.

Tony and his staff were so attentive even with a full restaurant we felt completely catered for but didn't feel them under-foot. and the best bit was the price!! 17 people ate and drank for 5 hours and it was under 1000 euro so that was id say £750 for 17 people 20 bottles of great wine and stunning food AND they threw in an unexpected wedding cake which was delicious (the one bite i could managed to fit in)

Our amazing day was topped off perfectly by Il Borgo. book it and don't look back

“Amazing Wedding Reception”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013

What an amazing restaurant.

We had our wedding reception at this restaurant in August 2012 and we could not have wished for anything more. The owner, Antonino was briliant. We met him on our first full day in Sorrento. He arranged transport for us to and from the restaurant from our hotel. We went throught every detai, seating plans, decorations, food options (of which there were plenty), timings. Toni was brilliant at putting us to ease with all of our queries.

The food was out of this world. It was of the highest quality we had in our 2 week holiday in Sorrento. So much choice and so many courses. The ravioli was amazing as were the fish (sea bass) and steak course.

Our guests are still raving about the food, location and atmosphere of our wedding day.

The location, high above Sorrento centre overlooking the bay of Naples was breath-taking. We would both strongly urge anyone going to Sorrento to visit this restaurant, we are sure you will not be disappointed. And any wedding couples, seriously consider this restaurant for your special day.

“Perfect does not do this place justice!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

This review is waaaay over due- my husband posted somthign at the time but i felt the need to have my say!

Where do we start with the Il Borgo. I apologise in advance for what may seem like hyperbole (and we promise you we are not the type of people to leave reviews, or even wax lyrical about many things to be honest) but I assure you that in relation to the Il Borgo it is entirely appropriate. On the 31st May 2011 we were fortunate enough to enjoy the best day of our lives getting married in San Francesco Cloisters in Sorrento and the Il Borgo was a magical part if this.

Having originally visited Sorrento in 2007 we fell in love with the unrivaled beauty and romance of the place. Therefore, once we got engaged it was an easy choice on where we wanted to tie the knot.

For a reception we wanted to have a rustic, family run, personal place to sit, eat, talk, laugh and enjoy. Having seen the great reviews of the il Borgo on Trip Advisor it seemed exactly what we wanted.

However, to hedge are bets we contacted a number of places in Sorrento to get some info. The manager of il Borgo Antoni got back to us straight away with menus, wedding package info, pictures etc.
Therefore given this initial positive contact, how beautiful the place looked, the great reviews, and the great wedding meal rate (even with the current poor £-€ exchange rate) we booked il Borgo.

Antoni catered for our every need (and more) from the moment we booked to the moment we retired to our hotel. On arriving in Sorrento on the Friday we had our first visit to il Borgo on the Sunday- which was a little but nerve racking; like meeting a date you have been speaking to on the Internet who sounds really great but your worried may not quite be what they seem in reality. Rest assured il Borgo is what it seems and more. Antoni was very proactive in contacting our wedding planner the day we landed and arranging a meeting and even doing the courtesy of arranging a lift from our hotel up to the restaurant for the meeting.

For the meeting we sat down with Antoni and he took us through the menu and all other arrangements down to the Nth degree. Antoni also organised transport for all our guests from: hotel to the Cloisters; the Cloisters to il Borgo; il Borgo to hotel (getting us a great rate on the additional transport we required, over and above what was included in the wedding menu rate).

From the outside the il Borgo looks pretty circumspect, but please don't be fooled the il Borgo is a beautiful restaurant. Nestled away in the hills of Sorrento, and set in amongst a beautiful small local church, a lemon grove and with breathtaking views across the bay I suppose it's hard for it not to be a beautiful restaurant.

The reception itself was unbelievably lovely: the table was beautifully arranged on the front terrace overlooking the bay and the meal itself was what can only be described as a 6 course extravaganza, with some of the most beautiful food I have ever tasted (special thanks to the chefs for this). What was so lovely about the il Borgo was it was clear to see how passionate they are about serving you great tasting food; no vacuous airs and graces just great tasting authentic Italian family cooking. They were even more than obliging in catering for some of our group who were vegetarian or could not eat fish food.

We dined away from about 5pm to near 11pm, and loved every second. I have to give a special mention for all our waiters who served us like their lives depended on it, and for 6 hours provided us with everything we could have wished for, not seeming to wane in energy one bit throughout. If you ever want your faith in humanity reaffirming then a visit to the il Borgo will do it for you because it is safe to say (bar none) the staff are really lovely people who actually seem to care about the relatively brief moments you spend in their presence being ones you will cherish.

I'm sure we could go on for pages and pages, because we cannot speak highly enough of il borgo. There are times in your life when that magic that you can't explain- but you just feel- happens and without a shadow of a doubt the Il Borgo helped us feel this, and we are lucky to have been able to create priceless memories which we will cherish for the rest of our lives. Antoni and the fellas we cannot express our appreciation and gratitude enough for you helping us have the best day of our lives!

“Fantastic 10th meal here.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 8, 2012

Yes, the title is correct, my wife & I have just enjoyed our tenth meal here across 3 holidays in Sorrento.
We were collected from our hotel and brought back free of charge, on arrival we were greeted by the owner Antonino, who as always remembered us and we were then taken to a table with a superb view of the illuminated town, the bay and the marina.
The service was first class, Tony only has the best people, they are always friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. The menu caters for all tastes, the quality is exceptional and the prices are amazingly good. This remains our favourite restaurant not just in Sorrento but anywhere.
