“Like mama still makes”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2013

My wife and I visited here in October 2012 and had a great experience.
Don't come here looking for linen tablecloths, silver service and grey suited sommeliers - come here instead looking for an authentic Italian meal served by a lovely Italian family.
We visited after seeing the restaurants food served at the bar next door (la vineria Bollicine) and it turns out that mama runs the restaurant, her son runs the bar and both do it very well.
The meal was rustic (insalate caprese to share, gnocchi alla Sorrentina, spaghetti bolognese and of course a basket of bread) and perfectly done with the absolute minimum of fuss. The gnocchi alla Sorrentina is the simple local favourite and is absolutely delicious. We took our time eating and washed it all down with a litre of local red wine which like the rest of the meal was locally produced and very reasonably priced. The bottled water was also realistically priced and non designer.
In short this was the best value and friendliest meal we had during our holiday.
This restaurant is completely without pretension and resembles a green house / hot house with plants growing through the roof etc and is the place to come for that elusive taste of the real Sorrento - which was, after all, a fishing village for a great many years before the cruise boats arrived. Brilliant.

“Great value and lovely food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2013

This was by far one of the nicest and best meals we had in Sorrento. The service was also very friendly. We wanted to go back but we ran out of time!

“Competitively priced in a very expensive area.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 29, 2012

Food pretty good , not as pumped up as other places but never the less perfectly acceptable , menu includes meat dishes , pizza , and the obligatory pasta. This restaurant is tucked away down a side street with a humble entrance which opens up into a lovely roof terrace with a vine grove eating area offering gives shade and a cool area to dine in the hot afternoon, service is excellent and attentive.
Nice touches are provided free of charge which is unusual in this neck of the woods , complementary oil and bread with Lemoncella to finish , this restaurant has to try hard to sell itself as its in a very tucked away place, it deserves a look.
Its cheap, i mean really cheap, in an area which is very expensive you can have two tomato salad starters, T Bone steak with all the trimmings, Pizza , two large beers and two large wines all for less than £30.00
Well done , excellent value for money and good quality too

“Excellent value for money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

We first visited this restaurant in 2009 with our children and since returned with our friends at the end of October 2012. Pleased to say the food is still as good. 1litre of house wine is 8 Euros and tasted pretty good too! Free bruschetta and a glass of lemoncella at the end. On average our total bill was 75 Euros for 4 including wine and beer. It is a family run restaurant and the dad took great delight in telling us his story along with showing us the many family photgraphs It is not haute cuisine but do not let that put you off as the food is plentiful, well cooked and filling. Would definately return.

“Lovely Restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2012

I visited Sorrento a few weeks ago with my Mum and Uncle and we stumbled across this restaurant, whilst looking for somewhere to eat one night. The restaurant is down a back street local to the main square and yes, although the service at times was a little hap-hazzard (we ate there on three consecutive nights), the family who run it were very lovely and well meaning, especially the elderly gentleman and his wife and nothing was too much trouble; even making a meal that wasn't on the menu for my Mum.
The food was of a good quality, especailly considering the price paid in comparison to some of the other establishments we ate at. I would highly recommend the restaurant.
