“Cheap, clean, good location but not relaxing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2013

Check in-before our arrival I emailed several times but with no response. This was worrying so we finally rang to check our booking was ok. Check in was not much fun, after travelling from naples in the rain we had a lady (who did not work at blurooms) check us in as the owner was working. After booking and paying for our accommodation 10 months in advance in total we had a problem with the additional city tax. After speaking to the manager on the phone the booking system was blamed but the problem was eventually resolved. Check in was not helpful, nor welcoming and we received little information about the room or our location.

The room-basic but clean. Small fridge was useful. Bed was uncomfortable (2xsingles pushed together), We asked for additional pillows but these were not great. The room was overlooking the square and did give rise to noise from the locals. Bathroom was new and modern but we had difficulties with the shower temperature. It required adjustment from taps under the sink which causes problems when you are already in the shower. The main door to the square is always open and left me to feel a little unsafe as anyone could walk in.

Location was good with a 5-10 minute walk from the main square in Sorrento.

Would I Recommend this place? Yes, if you are on a budget (€255 for 5 nights in October) and need a central Sorrento location but I have to say this was not a relaxing experience.

This place has a very "apartment/condo" feel and is very clean and modern. Amazing experience in this hotel. The lady was very nice that checked us in and gave us the keys. If I ever come back to Sorrento, I would stay here again. French doors and balcony was great and loved hanging out there at night looking over the main street of the city. Amazing!

As most other reviews we found the location perfect and Rossano was very kind and helpful, the balcony was great to watch the world go by and the room was cleaned every day, coffee and tea making would have topped it off and when the rest of the rooms are done it will give even greater choice of room I would imagine , thanks Rossano for a lovely stay and hope to return one day

These are more like apartments than a hotel as such. The location is very convenient on the main road through Sorrento - Corso Italia, about a 5 minute walk from the main Piazza Tasso and 10 minutes from the station.

Luckily I had read other guests reviews and knew about the slightly peculiar check in process! So when we arrived at BluRooms we spoke to the man in the bar downstairs who called someone to come and meet us, they were there in about 5 minutes. We were checked in and given wifi codes quite quickly.

We stayed in room 106 which was spacious, clean and had 2 balconies, one overlooking the road and the other the square outside. Other rooms that we saw as we walked along the hallway seemed clean but much smaller.

The bathroom is modern and very clean and towels were changed daily. There is a small safe in the room (make sure you are told where this is when you check in - we would never have found it otherwise!) I had read reviews saying that there was no kettle so we took our own travel kettle which was useful as there is no breakfast facilities at the hotel. There is also a small fridge - just big enough for some milk and a few bottles of wine!

The room was quite noisy with the doors open, as you would expect being located on the main road. The noise is reduced once the doors and shutters are closed but being used to living on a quiet road I was still aware if the busy street and square below.

The front door out onto the square was never locked but the town and hotel felt very safe so this didn't worry us. During our stay there was a market out on the square and the stall holders left their items overnight under covers - if they thought it was safe enough to leave their goods out on a busy Saturday night then I wasn't too concerned about security in the hotel!

My only complaint was that the maid seemed to want to reorganise our belongings every day! I'm sure she was just trying to be helpful but I found it quite unnecessary!

As for location it is ideal. Right in the heart of the Old town, perfect for exploring the cobbled side streets. Easy access to Marina Grande (although be prepared for lots of steps!) and a short walk from the main piazza and station.

In summary the BluRooms are not 5 star luxury but were great value for money and in a great location. Suited us perfectly for a long weekend in Sorrento.

Room Tip: Ask for room 106 if you want a bigger room with 2 balconies or ask for the room upstairs if you want...

Good location, nice hotel style room and no annoying hotel reception to sneak beers & snacks past. It's more like small apartments which are perfect for the price.

Owner was flexible and we extended our stay by a night after the hard working Italian train drivers took a day in lieu for all their good work. It's so good of the Italian train driver unions recognising that they needed that day off. Not at all inconvenient for everyone. Keep up the good work and I'm sure you'll get another day off soon. Sorry, nothing to do with hotel but just my little dig at Italian train driver strikes which you'll need to be wary of if you spend more than 11 minutes in Italy. On with the review...

So we visited the owner at his bar to sort the extra night which he did quickly for us and we even got a free drink each. That always makes me happy.

Not sure the correct way to check in but we walked into the bar downstairs (not the same as the owners) and they called the owner who turned up a couple of minutes later on his scooter. Quick check-in and he sorted us with wifi codes.

The bar downstairs is pretty quiet and even on a night when there was a football match on we couldn't here anything upstairs.

The shop on the corner isn't the cheapest. Go round the corner and walk a minute or 2 and there is another shop that's much better value.

Blurooms is a great place to stay in Sorrento. It is ideally situated. The rooms are really lovely and exremely clean. Rooms were serviced each day and beds changed every other day. We were lucky to get the best room, in our opinion. We had requested a top floor room after reading reviews that said they were the bigger rooms, on seeing it we realised that it had no balcony or opening french doors. We asked for a room with a balcony and wee given the corner room on first floor, room 106. It was roomy, with two french doors and a lovely bathroom. The hotel has no pool which we did miss a bit and would more so in summer but other than that it was fantastic. The down side of the place is the trek to the beach, which is a long walk down and really only several boarwalks with access to the water. The sunbeds are £12 per person too. Sorrento is a lovely place and has plenty of eating places and pavement cafes. We thought it quite expensive though, so be prepared for that. A trip to Capri on the boat is lovely but also very expensive, as is Capri itself. 5 Euro for a small beer and 8 Euro for a panini, still worth a visit though.

Room Tip: Definitely ask for room 106, by far the best as far as we could see. Also take the owners number and...

Stayed at Blurooms for the last part of a backpacking holiday around Italy and were able to find the hotel very easily thanks to its central location just off the main street in Sorrento. Were a bit concerned about checking-in as arrived in the evening and had read about there being no reception but enquired in the cafe below and someone was there to assist us within 5 minutes. We were given one of the loft rooms which was a bit of a disappointment to begin with as they do not have balconies but we were given use of an adjacent roof terrace which was a lot bigger (but no seating unfortunately). Room was of a good size, with double bed, sofa, sat tv and air-con. Only 1 pillow per person though! We were also pleased to discover there was free wi-fi which was useful for making further travel arrangements etc. The bathroom was very impressive; huge shower, modern decor and fittings. The place is spotlessly clean with a daily maid service, fresh bed linen, towels and toiletries. Overall, we were really pleased with our choice and felt the price to be very reasonable.
