“Good location for the train station”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2012

Clean, modern, helpful staff, great location for catching the train and ferry. Be sure you take the ferry along the Amalfi coast. We then took the 10 hour train ride to Palermo. Big fun. We also went to the Posieden ruins (Paestrum) - took the bus there and train back. Lots of walking.

Room Tip: We like looking over the square.

I chose this hotel mainly for its location (across the street from the train station). I arrived and was greeted by a nonchalant and flat receptionist who was not exactly Mr. Congeniality. Note to the manager/owner: find someone more friendly and cheerful to staff the reception desk, or give the existing staff a refresher course in hospitality. The room itself was decent, and wifi was excellent (and free). Breakfast was average (the fruit and apples weren't so fresh). However, I probably would stay here again (even though the front desk guy was not super friendly or helpful) based on the location and price.

Great place for those without a car. Nice easy walks to the shoreline promenade, varied dining and shopping. We rented a car from the agency next door for day trips and arrived on the train across the street (surprisingly little noise). Took a taxi all the way up to the medieval castle for spectacular views, only 11 euros. Clean but decorated a la 1967. Practical but not luxurious. Croissants and cornflakes for breakfast, ask for a cappuccino and they will happily make one. Internet requires your constant patience; ask for a room situated near the wireless router on each floor and maybe it will work for you. Reliable hot water for shower, A/C works.

Hotel is ideal for travellers who need a base. Staff are polite but not overly welcoming unless you're Italian. Wi fi is patchy and struggles unless you're sat where I am in the middle of the reception area. Air con and tv in rooms are good but don't expect anything in English. Breakfast was nice, could have benefitted from having a toast making facility and maybe some low fat options. Rooms are spotlessly clean and made up everyday. Bar facility has no atmosphere and bar man did everything so was a little reluctant to serve you and when he did it was ' service with a grimace' A good stay though and we did sleep fairly well

Right across from the Salerno train station and very close to ferries to Amalfi coast, it is an ideal location even returning to Naples. Also, a few hours ride to Paestrum, the Greek remains. Nothing fancy but still quite adequate. The city of Salemo has nothing of particular interest but easy access also if you want to go North to Rome or South to Sicily. I went east to Bari to visit Alberobello to see the trulli, the unique beehive structure.

This hotel is not fancy, but it is oh so good! At a great price. How can it possibly be right across from a major train station, but be so quiet? But it is. The firm mattress, the great AC, and the quiet made it my best night's sleep...helping me transition to the new time zone (better than the 2 previous nights in Germany).

Very centrally located, so easy to get to ferry, train, shopping, eating, people-watching, the duomo. The continental breakfast was awesome because of the endless cups of coffee I had / needed....which is hard to get / $$ in Europe. Each member in my family went down as they were ready and either sat at very clean, crisp white tablecloths, or brought up a bit to the room...helps getting ready with one bathroom (shower was great, btw). This dining room is the cleanest, most sparkling part of the hotel!

Hotel Plaza is ideally located in front of the train station, altough in a good neighbourhood, right next to the shopping street and very close to the ferries that go to the Amalfi coast.

Room is huge, bed very comfy, the best of our trip (beds in Italy tend to be rock hard from our experience). Ask for a room on the upper floor if you are noise sensitive, or bring earplugs because it is located on a busy piazza.

Breakfast is so so, as in a lot of places in Italy.

Staff not friendly (especially at the reception), except the cleaning one.
