“Wonderful oasis overlooking Salerno”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2013

Beautifully positioned restaurant / hotel above Salerno offering wonderful hospitality food wine and a great view. Rooms are large with big bathroom and sitting room. Fabulous pool and well worth having dinner there too. Well sign posted just off the autostrada with a ten /fifteen minute drive up a winding road into the hills.

Agricola Villa Lupara is a brilliant little find, tucked away in Croce with great access to Salerno, Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast...

We stayed at the villa on a friends recommendation and I have to say we were pleasantly surprised at all times. Lena and Daniela, the mother daughter duo who run the place were perfect hosts. Along with the staff, they were available at all times to provide information and assistance without being intrusive.

The property itself is vast and you could spend quite a few days just walking around the beautifully maintained gardens and lounge by the lovely infinity pool. Its excellent links to nearby attractions like the Amalfi only add to its charms as a great base camp.

We stayed in a 2 bedroom self catering apartment called Mansarda, which could easily house 6 so it meant there was tons of space for the 4 of us. Having 2 bathrooms in the flat made it quite convenient as well. Breakfast was provided in the morning - an array of homemade biscuits, cakes and juices along with fresh jams. We opted for lunch and dinner at the villa a few times and the food was fabulous, and eating it out in the gorgeous conservatory made it a fantastic experience. (you need to let the guys know if you want to opt for meals)... The view of the sea while lying out by the pool is incredible as well.

All in all, it was a great relaxing holiday and somewhere I would definitely come back to!!
Thanks for a great holiday!!

Room Tip: Mansarda a good room for bigger groups.

The views from this place were spectacular, and myself and my family immediately felt at home. The hospitality from the family who own and run the villa was second to none. The location is great, with easy access to Salerno, Pompeii and the Amalfi coast, and there is plenty of advice and information available at the villa about what to do while you are there. The wine, grown in the grounds of the villa is very good, as is the food (half board). The rooms are very clean. We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment with a fantastic terrace that gave you incredible 360 degree views of the area. All in all, this place is one of the best kept secrets of Southern Italy. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

I went there with my family on two different occasions. I must admit it was only for lunch once and for one entire day the second time (so, no experience about the rooms and their services/facilities). What I can say though is that it was such a really lovely discovery. The team is excellent and what you can see is, above all, how proud they are about their achievements and how they are trying hard to satisfy us costumer without compromising the environment. Still some minor areas to improve (it's their first experience in the hotel industry) but you can see that they are eager to learn and they are doing their best both to serve their customers and to grow a great produce (mmmmm....those tomatoes ;-).

The only thing was the noise after 4.00pm: even if there was a board asking the clients to be quieter...well, the clients were not and the service team didn't make a lot of effort to enforce it.

Anyway, all in all: Well done

Once you have gotten over the spectacular views, you will notice that Lena & Gigi, supported by a great team - have created something quite wonderful. A cleaver mix of the old, the new and clever use of architectural reclamation. The accommodation is 1st class, but not all apartments have air-con. A very good 4* level of comfort. The pool area is a place that you do not wish to leave, even though there are so many places to visit and children have so much space to run around. The wine & fruit is from the Agricola and Lena & Gigi are rightly proud that all produce is organic.A cheeky lunch by the pool can become a two hour affair! The communal dinning area’s both internal & external are places of great comfort.

However, there are a few pointers:
• At the weekend the pool area seemed to become a social club for external visitors who did not enjoy the fact that children do like water (It’s not made clear, but the pool area is open for a fee to non residents. This can cause issues in parking at the weekend)
• You have to be very clear when booking if you do or do not wish to have breakfast.
• It’s not clear which areas are or are not for guests.
• You will need great IT skills to crack the free Wi-Fi.
• Evening dining: It is offered on a Friday & Saturday only & is of great quality.
• Car Hire is essential if you wish to stay there.
• Outside the idyll, the surrounding areas are friendly, but there are feral dogs and the local council has a lax approach to refuse collection.

We’d love to stay there again and again and again.

Room Tip: La Mansarda has a wonderful terrace for late night BBQ's outdoor sowers! Il Forno is a great spa...

Villa Lupara is not out to distort the natural beauty of the place – the name itself for example is the same as that of the street where the farm is.The farm has been built and renovated using natural and ecological materials as much as was possible, often giving new life to things that could no longer be used in their original state and thus combining the past with the present. At the same time a system has been installed which saves up to 70% of energy compared to a conventional building ... more   less
