“WHAT A FANTASTIC PLACE!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2010

The views are amazing, the staff is friendly and polite. The food is wonderful!
Worth every penny! The walk is fun and makes you feel like your on an adventure every time you go at it. It is just what we needed after travelling from Venice and Tuscany. This is such a unique place, Keep in mind you are on a mountain side overlooking the ocean and Downtown Amalfi marina! You can smell the lemons at night when treking the trail.
Bring a mini flashlight and good walking shoes and you are all set. We did the hike at least twice a day, Great excercise! Thank you for sharing you little slice of paradise!

We absolutely loved this B&B! Situated on a mountain on Amalfi, this was truly a beautiful experience. It requires a hike on stairs to get here, which can be difficult with luggage. The rooms were really wonderful - spacious. The location was great because it was off the beaten track, but still afforded amazing views of the Mediterranean. The terrace is lovely for breakfast - and the hosts serve a big meal (mostly consisting of breads). The hosts could not have been more friendly or helpful. This was the perfect place for getting engaged, which we did!!!

We were staying at "Le Palme" with my girl friend in the end of Sept 2009 and it was a great time for us. I really loved this place and people. They were always ready to help and support in spite of my many stupid questions and requests. Having a breakfast in the morning and looking at the view from the terrace was wonderful. I'm sure that Amalfi is the only place in the world where you can find such a gorgeous view. Of course, some times I was very lazy to walk the steps down and especially up. But one you get down, you can always return back by city bus easily and take some steps down from Exelsior hotel. If I have a chance, I will definitely come again and stay at "Le Palme". I'm sending my warmest regards and expressing sincere gratitude to Antonietta, Sonia, Salvatore!

Yes, there are stairs. Who cares? Look at the view!

I accessed this hotel both ways. When we arrived with our bags, we took the bus up the mountain and walked down the 300 steps. Later, when we were returning from dinner in Amalfi, we walked up the 600 steps from the bottom of the mountain. I have to say, I'll choose walking up 600 steps every time. I feared for my life in that bus. But bring a flashlight if you brave the steps at night. Some parts of the path are totally unlit.

Our room had French doors opening onto the gorgeous patio. It wasn't luxurious, but hey, neither was the price point; it was perfectly acceptable. The staff greeted us with Fanta when we arrived (oh Italy), and breakfast was DELICIOUS. Cappuccino and espresso, freshly baked pastries, toast with jam, butter, Nutella.

One note: You can put down your deposit for this hotel with a credit card, but in reality, they only take cash. So make sure you have enough cash on you when it's time to check out, or you'll have to go down 600 steps to the nearest ATM. That was a close shave for us.

We hopped on the SITA bus from Sorrento harbour to Pogerola and got off at the Excelsior hotel to find the stairs down to Le Palme. It is not marked in any way but it was an easy enough walk down with carry on luggage, might be a bit tricky with 30kg bags but you can arrange for help if required. We had a quick pasta dinner but it was fairly average although the 5 euro bottle of wine in the mini bar was exceptional. Breakfast the next morning was a different story - so much food and all of it fantastic.

The views are worth all of the effort in getting there and we were even moved to the upper room with the swimming pool and sun deck directly outside and this felt like your own home as it was nice and private.
The SITA bus takes you everywhere you need to go including Positano, Amalfi Ravello and if you are unsure about driving abroad you may not want to contemplate hiring a car here. Sheer drops, narrow roads and kamikaze bus and scooter drivers make it a great spectator sport.
Rather than brave the maddening evening crowds in Sorrento we found a quick walk uphill to Pogerola much nicer and more fun especially Gerry's bar.

From the moment we arrived in Amalfi, we experienced exceptional service from everyone at Hotel Le Palme. They were welcoming, friendly and very helpful. Our room was lovely and comfortable. The breakfast was delicious, and enjoyed on a balcony overlooking the most incredible views of Amalfi and the coast. Yes, there are stairs!!! But don't let that put you off, because not only are the views breathtaking, but it just adds to the "Amalfi Coast Experience"! We would go back to Hotel Le Palme in an heartbeat...actually we didn't want to leave!

My wife and I stayed at Le Palme for 10 days. I was aware of the many steps down to Amalfi before we went, so this was no surprise and no problem for us. It is about a 20 min walk down to Amalfi centre but it is a beautiful leisurely walk requiring only a moderate level of fitness. However, if you choose to walk up the 600 odd steps, you will need to be fit as it is a challenge in the heat. It's again no problem beacuse you can catch a bus from Amalfi centre to Pogerola and then walk down only about 200 steps (easy) The views from this hotel are stunning and the Cuomo family are very welcoming. However 2 things were not acceptable to us. Firstly, we ordered a simple sandwich for lunch one day and it took over 3 hours to arrive because thay had no bread? and when we checked out, we were told that there was no one to carry our 30KG suitcase up the 200 odd steps to the taxi, so we had to do it which was agonising in 35 degree heat. I would stongly recommend that you make it clear to the family when you are leaving and that you must have help with any cases. That aside, a wondeful location and a great holiday
