“Excellent location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2013

We arrived at Amalfi already dark and walked a little around the city until we found this hotel. Staff was very nice. We hired a service to bring our luggage from the nearby parking lot. Rooms were confortable and bathroom modern. Breakfast was amazing because of the breathtaking view of the piazza and the cathedral. We had been told that their terrace had "una vista carina" (a cute view) but nothing prepared me for the awesome sight of the terrace. Spectacular! Hot chocolates, cappucinos and croissants nice too.

Stayed here with friends in October 2012. The location can't be beat. We also thought the desk personnel were great! Thoroughly enjoyed watching soccer in the lobby with "the boys". Loved the breakfast--fabulous croissants and the best caffe latte of our trip. Use your earplugs--the bells are close, but I thought it added to the charm.

This is a relatively small family run hotel right opposite the Duomo in the main square in Amalfi and as such you have access to the fabulous views from the roof terrace (where you also have breakfast). The terrace is at the same height as the Duomo, which in turn is 4 or 5 storeys above the square, so not only have you got the Duomo as an amazing backdrop but you can just relax and watch the continuous goings on in the square below.
The owner and staff have limited english but we mucked through without a hitch. With it being family run and things to do within the hotel the reception was not always manned, but more often than not Giancarlo was there. He was very helpful and eager to assist in anything we wanted. He helped us with finding a hotel in our next destination and also talked that hotel into giving us an generous discount.
The room we had was clean and smart and we had no problems during our 3 night stay.

The only thing you need to be aware of is that as the hotel is perfectly placed in the centre of Amalfi where everything takes place, then there is likely to be some noise issues from time to time.
With that in mind you cannot go wrong staying here.

Room Tip: Rooms on the west side are quieter. Sea Views are just being able to see the sea between buildings.

I would like to rate this hotel higher but I really don't feel I can. When we arrived nobody was staffing reception, and this was frequently the case, both day and night, during our four night stay. Eventually a woman who spoke very little English appeared. Our booking didn't appear in the register so she rang someone and then checked us into our room.

Later we met Giancarlo, who seems to manage the hotel single handedly, or perhaps with his family, as there was often a boy sitting in the reception area watching TV or using the internet. Giancarlo was keen to be of help, but also had limited English. Maybe this explains the information on the hotel website that they are willing to be patient with guests trying out Italian phrases from their guidebook

We had room 21, a nice room with a balcony overlooking the square and a view across to the Duomo. The room wasn't spacious but the bathroom was large enough to accommodate our extra luggage. Everything was clean and tidy.

Wi Fi was free and unlimited, but the promised BBC World and CNN television channels were unobtainable.

Our first night in the hotel, a Friday, was quiet and we weren't woken by the church bell until 7am. The clocks went forward an hour at 2am on Sunday and this was accompanied, perhaps coincidentally, by a lot of noise from revellers in the square. On the Monday and Tuesday the racket from the square began at 5.30am with clanging of bins followed by some sort of noisy excavation in the building below us.

Breakfast was basic but adequate. It was served on the outdoor roof terrace when it wasn't too cold, which was pleasant.

We bought ourselves a local half lemon of soap, good value at 2 euro, as the soap provided in the room was tiny and the gel/shampoos are those silly packets that are hard to open.

Had the hotel been quieter at night (double glazing perhaps?), and had reception been better staffed I would have rated it four out of five, but we had serious concerns when we saw that some people had left their room keys on the unattended reception counter and gone out.

This hotel has some great pro's with just one con. We stayed in room 23 from memory which had a balcony straight onto the piazza so we could sit and people watch as much as we wanted and duck downstairs for food, vino, olives! The location of this hotel is excellent. The price is very good value for money and the service very friendly. The property is clean and facilities are what you need. Breakfast is good. Our only negative was the noise from the piazza at night. Around midnight the local kids set off fire works most nights of our stay - i am not sure if this is a usual thing but it was extremely loud and my husband was on a two week rest from Afghanistan so the fireworks really startled us in the middle of the night. This is outside the hotels control but it was something that was a bit much after 4 nights. Yes the bells went during the day but that didnt worry us. Our view was perfect. And we loved to people watch and drink vino from our balcony. We also had our 2 year old with us and everything was fine. Access to the hotel wifi was free and very helpful. Would suggest doing any day trips (eg Pompeii) from amalfi rather than positano as the buses go from amalfi. Amalfi was also better for cheap, local souvenirs. The hotel staff were very friendly.

Room Tip: We had 23 - it was the best room for a view with a balcony onto the wonderful piazza however we paid...

This is a nice hotel with very friendly staff. Breakfast is really good, with the very attentive staff waiting on you. I spent 5 days in this hotel for a conference and I would gladly come back and stay at this hotel. It has a beautiful terrace that overlooks the duomo and breakfast is served in this area every morning.

There is one caveat: As I mentioned this hotel is very close to the duomo, so if you want to sleep in, it would be impossible to do so at this hotel. The bells of the duomo ring every 15 minutes from 7 am to 10 pm, so this makes sleeping in and taking a nap impossible. If you want to do either of these things, I suggest finding a hotel farther away from the duomo.

We arrived earlier than expected and the rooms were still being prepared, not to worry! We were ushered to the balcony cafe and offered a coffee while we waited ...
No sooner had my Cafe Americano reached it's final destination when we were ushered to our room. What a view, the church to one side the street to the other. Lovely little balcony, good bed, clean fresh linen, big towels, good bathroom and shower.
The days were pretty standard for us, up early(ish) brekkie consisted of fresh croissants and pannini with sweet things, yoghurt and great coffee (Vegimite made it up with me on day 2) we would then wander out for the day, great walks, local shops or the beach 10€ two chairs one umbrella. SOLD!
Return, shower, glass of wine on balcony and watch the Amalfi square ebb and flow.
Then out for dinner See my review on Il Mulino, GREAT FIND!
These guys were friendly, and welcoming, great place to stay, will come back ..
But buyer beware, if you are a light sleeper forego the view for a back room, the "ebb and flow" goes on all night and then dovetails into clean-up duties of the bin-men. So if you desire a sleep in ask for a room not facing the square..
But it's all part of it really isn't it?
Ciao Amalfi!
