We stayed at the Villa Annalara for three nights in early June -- me, my husband and our toddler. The hotel was very nice; we definitely liked the location, just a bit up from town. My chief complaint is that our room, Edera, is advertised as a deluxe ocean view room. If you look at the pictures I've included, you'll see that the ocean view is only from the terrace outside the room. The room itself has sloped ceilings, with just a skylight and a small half-moon shaped window near the floor. The room was very clean and plenty spacious for 3. The mattress felt old and slightly uncomfortable. The room was very quiet, though, which was excellent. A/C worked well. Agree with the other review that the toilet took forever to fill.

Breakfast was similar to that served at the other 2 hotels we stayed at during this trip (Sorrento and Naples) -- cereal, yogurt, croissant, juice, sliced ham and cheese, good coffee. Nothing special, but enough to fill you up. Management was friendly enough. I'd stay there again, but wouldn't recommend spending extra for an ocean view room.

This was a fantastic place to stay in a fantastic town. Amalfi is lovely and the lift to this hotel from the street meant that it was possible to enjoy a fantastic view over Amalfi without any of the hassle of stairs with luggage, etc. Both Salvatore and Renato were very friendly hosts and very helpful. Our room (Ciclimino) was superb - great views, air conditioning and very clean. Breakfast was great - croissants, rolls, fruit, cereal and great coffee.

Can't complain at all about this place... would definitely stay again. No need for a car - don't bother as this is a 3-5 minute walk down the main street to the Duomo and the sea.

Go there now!

I have just returned from villa annalara with a party of 4, we stayed in the Glicine and our friends stayed in the other one with the vaulted ceiling upstairs (sorry forgot the name). We have nothing but praise for the accomadation and setting, the view when you came out in the morning was wonderful.
We found the staff pleasant and helpful. Yes the guy there did park our car for the 3 days somewhere safe! and charged 18 euros a day for it, we didnt ask where but it came back in one piece and at the end of the day we all need to make a living!

We found it very quiet and tranquil and a great central place to visit positano capri and pompeii. I would definitely recommend this villa to friends. We loved it.

There are some really good things about the Relais Villa Lara but unfortunately they are equally balanced by the not so good. Our party was a family of 8 so we occupied 4 out of the 6 rooms for 4 nights last week.
There is a superb terrace with seating with a lovely view over Amalfi and the relais benefits from its position about 10 minutes walk and you are in the centre of Amalfi. There is a lift from street level as the villa is in an elevated position away from any street noise. However if you would like a nights sleep Glicene is not the room for you as we found out. Glicene has a door opening directly onto the terrace but any one coming or going passes by your door and the gentleman that staffs the villa sits right outside at night smoking and chatting on his phone. The door to the next door property also closes against the wall. Glicene is also next to reception so you can clearly hear any activity including the phone and breakfast preperation. This room is certainly not worth the extra 40 euros a night we were charged. Both upstairs rooms have velux windows the blinds were broken and you were unable to close them to keep the sun/light out.
The breakfast was a real disappointment there is a picture of the breakfast table set out on the terrace on the internet showing a fruit basket, cakes etc but we just had one type of roll with ham and cheese and a crossiant if you were lucky set out in reception. We really disliked the cracked and dirty pots which were a daily feature.
2 of our rooms had plumbing issues Glicene had a cracked shower tray and a partially blocked plug which mean't that the tray overflowed before you had finished your shower. Edera had a very slow filling toilet 20minutes ! we asked for these problems to be sorted but they were not resolved we managed because we could share each others rooms.
We stayed for 4 nights and had no clean towels or bedding during our stay which we found unusual and cleaning was minimal during our stay.
This is our 8th trip to Italy in recent years and we have always found the hotel staff to be very friendly and warm so this year was a bit of a shock. We felt
like we were intruding the owner never made an effort to talk to you we would walk past him every morning on our way out and on our way back but he never asked if we had had good day or wished us a good day. The staff were not rude but just cold and not friendly. The final straw that led me to write this review was how the owner managed our payment for our stay. We booked 4 rooms and required a bill for each so on our penultimate day we asked for our bills. We was told they would be avaliable the following morning, then we were told they would be avaliable just before we were due to leave. On leaving we needed to pay but no written bills were avaliable. We had been quoted a room rate per night but the hotels own web site which we booked through indicated a 20% discount for stays of 3 nights or more. We were told at the last moment that the discount was only avaliable for cash. Bad enough but as we were literally stepping on the lift as our taxi was waiting the owner handed an invoice for all 4 rooms showing an amount some 260 euros less than we had paid. We tried to query this but with no response and with a plane to catch we did not have the time to insist on an explanation. Amalfi proved to be a great base and we were lucky that we booked our taxi transfers and a tour through an excellent firm who we would recommend without hesitation. Extremely professional but polite friendly and very kind contact Salvatore Lucibello at driveamalfi@hotmail.com We booked a boat for the day lovely lovely people super boat great fun saw the coast stopped off for a swim and lunch contactwww.amalficharter.it Alfonso and Rosaria.

I spent 3 nights in Villa Annalara Relais as part of my honeymoon. The view is a delight. We stayed in the Glicine and provably it's the best room in the Villa. The staff is friendly. The breakfast was good if you are a cure meets lover. I did not have a problem in that department.
It might be tricky to get to the hotel, the steps might be old and the tunnel a little creepy but its part of the experience. I loved it! Once you are in that terrace you'll have the best view in town.
