“Very pleasant hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2009

We stayed for 3 nights. The location of the hotel is very central. The room was very nice and comfortable. Above all, the staff was extremely friendly and helpful.
The only thing that could be improved is the breakfast, which range of choice was a little dull. A minor drawback considering that this hotel was the cheapest we could find in downtown Amalfi.
By the way: the Amalfitan Coast is gorgeous!

We had the pleasure to stay in this hotel 2 nights in the end of May. We realy loved the place, the fantastic service, the nice breakfast on the terrace up on the roof, where you have an exotic, lovely view. You live in the center and it is near to the bus, beach and everything. The girl in the reception helped us to book tickets and hotel in the next place where we were going. Super!

Small Charming hotel with a beutifull roof terrace. The best working shower we had in the whole south of italy.
The only negative the thing was the terrible noice of the airco from other rooms, I think they need some maintanance, but for the rest we only can be very positive about this nice hotel.

We spent the most wonderful weekend at Annas hotel in Amalfi. The hotel Antica Repubblica was just the kind of place we would like to stay; small, elegante and run by the most friendly family. The breakfast on the roof terrace was just unforgettable.

We stayed here for 5 nights and would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting a reasonably priced hotel in Amalfi.

We spent ages choosing a hotel, having started with visions of staying somewhere where we might sit on a balcony overlooking the beautiful azure sea with wine glasss in hand. In the end, cost ruled the decision ! So, this hotel does not have a sea view, but it does have genuine charm.

The hotel is in the "main" Amalfi street , so is right in the midst of the hustle and bustle of Amalfi. We were told by another couple who were in a room overlooking tjhe street that their room was very noisy, but we were in a room at the back which was quieter. Not quiet, though ... in the morning the noise of everyday life starts early and seems to echo off all the closely packed buildings in the town, but we were in Amalfi to explore and not to sleep late or stay in our room during the day, so it didn't worry us. On the other hand, it was a bonus being right in the middle of the township because we could drop back to the hotel easily if we needed to.

Our room was beautifully decorated and quite large, with a big bathroom, and shuttered doors opening out on to a small tiled area. (All the rooms have names - our one at the back was called Il Guidice ).

The hotel staff were very friendly (as was the resident dog!).
Manuel, who does the night shift and the breakfast, was especially friendly and helpful. One morning we caught the bus to Pompei, which left earlier than the usual breakfast time - when Manuel heard we were catching an early bus, he offered to serve breakfast early for us. It was one of those little gestures that made this hotel a great place to stay.

Breakfast was fresh and had a good choice of cereal, yoghurt and rolls, along with freshly made espresso or cappucino. In the summer breakfast is served on the rooftop terrace but when we were there (October) it was in a small room on the ground floor. Previous reviewers have complained about this room - there's no doubt it's small, but when we were there not all the rooms were occupied (and , anyway, not everyone has their breakfast at the same time) , so it was not crowded.

This is an excellent choice if you want an attractive, reasonably priced small hotel with friendly caring staff.

We were actually booked to stay in the Villa Annalara but on arrival we were told the hot water had broken down at this hotel and that we were being transfered to the Repubblica, and what a bonus this was, no offence to the Annalara as it looked like a loveley hotel, but by being transfered we found ourselves in a much more central hotel. The location was perfect, although the church bells did wake us at 7am every morning, the room was spotless and the staff were very friendley and very helpfull.
