I booked my stay through La Ninfa’s website. I decided to pay extra for a room over looking the water to enjoy the scenery. My only advice would be not to set your expectations really high because the photos on the website are so amazing. The hotel itself is nice but average. The view of the ocean is what makes it so spectacular.
The hotel….
To begin with the hotel is really a Bed and Breakfast. The front door is always locked, so unless you have a room key, you will need to ring the bell. The reception is a little booth and next to it there is a hallway with sliding glass doors that open up to the ocean. This is where breakfast is served. The view is amazing, but unfortunately there is no AC so in the summer time it can be a bit unpleasant to have breakfast, but it’s livable. There is a picture of this area on their website. The main part of the B&B has no elevators and there are some steps that need to be climbed to get in and out of the main part as well as some of the rooms.
The staff…….
Christina is sweetheart of a person and maintains the property during the day time. She tries to make your stay as pleasant as possible. The main owners are 2 brothers who are not around much but available by phone, so it may feel like you’re on your own during the evenings when Christina is gone.
The rooms….
When we arrived, Christina showed us to our room, which was not part of the main building. I was a bit disappointed at first, when we had to start walking down the street to a studio nearby which we would be staying at. The room wasn’t very spacious but it was a decent size and had French doors opening up to the amazing view of the ocean. The AC worked fabulously and really cooled down the room during the hot summer. The room had a sitting chair, small table, TV and a fridge. Later on I checked out one of the rooms in the main part of the building and I was glad my room was away. The rooms in the building are nice, but you have to climb up and down different steps which can be tiring and difficult with heavy luggage. There is a lack of privacy since some of the bedroom doors open up to the main hallway and breakfast area. The rooms are very standard, average, nothing luxurious but the views are fantastic and they are clean.
The bathroom…
Our in suite bathroom also was of a decent size, very clean and had a French door opening up to the ocean view. The shower stall was tiny and clogged up on us one day, but luckily Christina was quick to fix it and we never had a problem again.
Breafast and Beverages….
Breakfast is nothing special. It consists of juice, coffee, milk, pastries, butter and jam. There is a bar so you can order sodas and liquor for a fee when some one is around during the day. The rooms have a small fridge with water, soda, juice and beer.
Surrounding Area….
The garage is nearby but full during our stay. We parked on the street which is a bit scary to cross. There is a beach entrance nearby, be prepared to climb 500 steps to get there and then to get back up, unless you use the lift of a nearby hotel which you will have to pay a fee for. At the beach there is a cafe with typical local food and you can also rent beach chairs. The town of Amalfi is about a 15 minute tiring walk, up hill and down hill and then down a long flight of stairs. There is nothing nearby the B&B like markets, restaurants or shops. I think there is a bus stop a couple of steps away but I would highly recommend renting a car to get around and enjoy the rest of the coast. Parking is not a problem unlike what some websites say, but driving the coast is not for everyone.
