Amalfi is a lovely small town, reached from Sorrento by bus or boat, but choose the boat if you fear heights. The bus route is the prettier of the two journeys, with jaw-droppng scenery as the cliffs plunge into the blue Mediterranean Sea and houses nestle into the sheer cliff faces. Amalfi itself is worth a visit, but don't forget to visit St. Andrew's Cathedral, which is rich in history and is architecturally beautiful - be aware though, there are over 60, yes, sixty steps up to it. There are plenty of shops and restaurants and you can access a beach if you desire.
