My wife & I stayed 7 nights at Villa Lara. On the whole, we thoroughly enjoyed the experiece of staying there. Nello (Mein Host) certainly made the visit an enjoyable & delightful occasion.

The room was good (quiet and with good airconditioning). Two small issues: One downside was that the shower unit had a seat in the cubicle which cut down on the space available - it made for very constricted manouverability. The other was that we found the beds fairly firm (almost on par with a futon), although after a couple of nights you got used to it.

As I'm a Kiwi, Nello had great delight in showing me his version of the HAKA - a sight to behold! Apart from his gregarious and fun loving nature, he made us most welcome and gave good advice on things to do and restaurants to visit. Most evenings he would sit and talk to us while we sipped on Limonchello with Tea or Coffee. On that particular issue we found the cost of inhouse drinks most reasonable, unlike some hotels in the area which charged like 'wounded bulls'!

I have no hesitation in saying that we would (and most likely will!) go back and stay there. It's quiet, and not far from the center of of Amalfi.

  • Liked — Quiet, Clean and not far from center of town
  • Disliked — Small shower cubicle
  • Tips/Secrets: — Lots of stairs to cope with if lift is out of service

We are a group of four that just recently stayed at the Villa Lara at Amalfi in Italy. This place was a gem just an easy stroll to the heart of the town. Accommodation was extremely good with views over the Amalfi coast line and the sloping hills lined with lemon trees. The staff consisting of Nello Roberto and Luca were so helpful and friendly and they made our stay most enjoyable. The freedom of coming and going as if you were at home being able to buy our own nibblies and enjoying them on the balcony having a few light refreshments and an enjoyable conversation made the time there very relaxing. The shower was a little bit tight for size in our room other than that there was nothing to complain about.
If you required advise on the things to do the staff are all well knowledged on the facilities available and can organise most things without a fuss. I would go back again and would recommend this place to anyone, enjoy.

We had the opportunity this spring to visit the Amalfi Coast and stay at the Villa Lara in Amalfi, and I can't say enough about this bed and breakfast gem. It's small, intimate, quiet, and decorated in a hip but sumptuous manner. Entering the hotel property has the feel of discovering a secret garden. The location is beautiful, up the main street of town near the famous old paper mill (now a neat museum). A one-minute walk puts you in the heart of the town for shopping, etc., and if you head the other way (up the valley), you quickly enter lemon groves and then a beautiful trail by the river. The view from the hotel is fantastic - looking over town to the bell tower of the church to the sea (this is the view from the breakfast terrace)... Nello, the owner, is just the best and has great recommendations for restaurants, places to have picnic lunches made, how to rent a boat for the day, where the best beaches are, etc. He's approachable and accommodating, and wants to make sure you have a wonderful stay. The breakfast is very generous - fruit, yogurt, breads, cereals, milk, coffee, etc... We had a fabulous, relaxing time, and will definitely come again!

  • Liked — The overall feel of the hotel and the owner, Nello
  • Disliked — Can't think of a thing that was disappointing
  • Tips/Secrets: — Book early

We reserved two nights in the Suite ( sunken tub in the bedroom and the private balcony).
We called Villa Lara at 9AM from Naples and asked if they could accommodate us a day early even though it was high season. They went to extraordinary lengths to accommodate us and I was impressed with their efforts and standards. The facility is beautiful, charming, quaint, old and new. The views and multiple patio seating areas are INCREDIBLE. It's nice to be minutes from the beach and piazza, yet removed enough from the insane foot/ people traffic on the main strip, to have some sense of privacy and quiet.

Nello, Luka, Roberto, and Salvatore are all wonderful.
If you seek a smaller charming specialty boutique Villa versus a large impersonal 5 start hotel, this is an excellent choice.

One caution; we used the dry cleaning laundry facilities in Amalfi (not associated with Villa Lara.) We sent new microfiber light weight clothing that was returned to us clean BUT very distressed, worn, and in poor condition. It was like they took our new clothes and beat them on rocks for 24 hours then dried them in the sun and wadded them up in a square and returned them. Pretty disheartening. Hand wash your own clothing or find a different facility.

We spent 4 nights at the Villa Lara and wished we could have stayed longer. The hotel is a short walk from Amalfi's main piazza and just 5-10 minutes away from the beach on foot. The B&B is modern and clean and the staff is great, especially Nello who is helpful with everything from laundry, restaurant recommendations to helping with getting your car parked.

The hotel has a small breakfast terrace with a gorgeous view. The breakfast fare is simple and does the trick, with freshly made capuccino and espresso. There is a free interenet connection in the lobby which was great to have. The rooms are simple and clean.

The Villa Lara was a great place to stay. I had a great time, I loved the staff, I loved the service, the location. The Villa Lara was great place to stay, it had a very modern, yet homey feel.
