“Great views, lovely property and great advice for walking”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2012

We loved the Villa Lara with its great views and stylish decor, but also found the advice we were given about walking in the area was brilliant. The path of gods was a real highlight and it was great being told where to go, how to get there etc - we'd have never got there otherwise! So a big thank you. Also thought the location of the villa was great - high enough to give stunning views but just 5-10 min walk to all the bars and restaurants (and a really nice walk that never felt any distance)

We spent four amazing days in Amalfi, all of them in Villa Lara. The place is a B&B so no dinner is served but there are plenty of good restaurents in the area. We found the location to be perfect, only around 5-10 minute walk from the centre of town but far enough that its peaceful. Nello(the hotel owner) is amazing, he gave us a great room at an excellent price (we had a huge balcony with an excellent view of both the coast and the town). The rest of his staff was also amazing, they arranged all our tours for us as we arrived with a list of things to do but no idea how to get to them. The rooms are very clean and of adequate size but you rarely spend time in the room in Amalfi because theres so much to do. The service we experienced was excellent and the coffee they serve is delicious (we had bad experiences with coffee in Florence and Rome). In terms of value for money we got a great deal and it was worth every penny. We cant say enough about Nello, we just really liked him and he was so gracious and helpful and we had great conversations with him. Overall, a wonderful experience and we will defintely be back. Just some words of advice, if you're coming from elsewhere in Italy(Rome, Florence, etc), the best way to get to Amalfi is via train to Salerno and then a ferry (5 min walk from Salerno train station) or bus (bus terminal is at the train station). We preffered the ferry as its only 30-40 min vs 60+ by bus and the bus ride is a little scary since the roads run along a cliff side. Dont drive there! The roads are dangerous and tough for someone who isnt a local particularly since the road can only fit one car at a time at some points and with buses running by it can be a horrible drive, also parking isnt easy to find. Anyway a car is not neccessary since there is plenty of public transporation that can get you anywhere you need to go at a fair price. We highly recommend both Villa Lara and Amalfi as we enjoyed every minute of it.

We stayed at Villa Lara in July this year and had the most amazing time. For us a huge draw of Villa Lara is that is feels so homely, rather then like a hotel. The room we had was absolutely gorgeous and was spotlessly cleaned everyday. The decoration of the room was modern and airy with a really comfortable and large bed. We enjoyed the private terrace that looked to the mountain edges of the valley. The location is brilliant – set up on the cliff the villa overlooks the town of Amalfi and the sea in the distance and sets you away from the tourist feel along the coast, yet is only a 5 minute walk from anything you would want in Amalfi. The views from the breakfast terrace are stunning. All the staff were so friendly, welcoming and chatty. Allessandro even gave us a lift to the start of the walk that we wanted to do and took us to a place to buy a good pack up for the walk.

We stayed here in June having been influenced by the many positive reviews of the Villa Lara and we were very glad to have done so. Villa Lara is perched on the cliffside just above the hustle and bustle of the main area of Amalfi and the small terrace at the front was an ideal spot to retire to away from the madness of the cruise passengers hitting the town! A glass or two of chilled white wine or limoncello watching the sun setting was delightful. Although Villa Lara is a pleasant remove from the busy centre it is only a very short walk so a ten minute stroll takes you out to dinner or to the Gelato shops.

The villa itself is spotlessly clean. We had a large spacious room which was tastefully decorated. The welcome we received at the hotel was excellent - Luca and Nello were both extremely helpful, friendly and great conversationalists. The villa itself is not a large hotel which is part of the charm of the place - you feel more like you are visiting friends than staying in some anonymous chain hotel. Often we would find ourselves enjoying a drink on the terrace with some of the other guests which led to swapping tips on good places to eat, how best to get to various places and how to avoid long queues - invaluable information on occasion!

The Amalfi coast is a stunningly beautiful location and obviously a great tourist hotspot. Amalfi was for us an ideal location to explore the area - it was extremely easy to get about using the boats/buses so we didn't miss not having a car. We will definitely be returning to the area and I'm sure we will return to Villa Lara - for the price it was very good value and the warm welcome really made the stay and we greatly enjoyed both the tranquility of watching the sunset with a chilled limoncello and chatting with Nello on the terrace sipping wine and the restaurant recommendations we were given were great. We ate very well - thank goodness for all the walking we did to balance it out!

This is a modern, exquisite yet tranquil hotel that provides breathtaking views of the beautiful coast and town of Amalfi.

We stayed for one night in the Junior Suite with the hot tub in the bedroom, which was by far better than any of the worldwide hotels we have stayed in. The professional pictures do it no justice, as the room was absolutely unique.

The view from the private balcony was incredible to say the least, this is the ever lasting memory we will take from Amalfi, which says a lot considering the picturesque views offered by the entire coastline.

Would most definitely return, thoroughly recommended!

i stayed at the hotel vila lara and was blown away at how cheap, clean, quality and great this hotel was, not too mention the breakfest - bellissimo.....

the service was second to none, the friendly staff were awesome - Nello, Luka, Allesandro and Peatro, they all make you feel warm, welcome and go out of their way to help you out.

the rooms cleaned everyday, fresh towels, bed made - absolute cleanliness day in day out.

breakfast was great too with fantastic service, i cant say enough about this hotel. Must choose this as your first option for Amalfi.

Room Tip: all rooms looked great.

We choose this hotel because of the high rating in Tripadvisor and were not disappointed. Thanks to Nello and Luca and the rest of the staff our stay was very enjoyable. We had the junior suite which is a two level room in the attic. It was a jacuzzi tub and fiberoptic lighting, very romantic. The room itself is very large, and the bathroom which is fully equipped is large as well. However the room has a great balcony where we could enjoy breakfast or just lounging. The hotel is located high on a rock (with an elevator up to it) and in a very quiet location up the valle di Mulini. However, it is also just a 5 minute walk into the center of Amalfi and 10 minute walk to the pier and buses. Yet we could hear the birds singing, goats and neighborhood dogs. Nello and Luca were very helpful, spoke great English ( and serveral other languages' including German). Breakfast was either in the lounge or outside on the deck. The double espressos were amazing, made just the way we like the. I would highly recommend this hotel and would stay here again when we return to Amalfi.

Room Tip: This hotel has only 7 rooms. Ask for the attic room.
