“Amazing place to stay that we will return to”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2011

We stayed at Dei Cavalieri Hotel as part of a family vacation in Italy. Out of all the hotels we stayed in throughout Italy, this was definitely the best. Clean comfortable rooms, Friendly outgoing staff, a nice continental breakfast with various meats, cheeses, breads/croissants and drinks.

This hotel is an easy walk from downtown Amalfi. It sits high enough up on the mountain that you have a fantastic view from your rooms and the patio of the coast and ocean, but with a short ten minute walk you are in downtown Amalfi. There is also a free shuttle service from the hotel that is available upon request.

The staff were fantastic. While everyone was great, I have to call out Simona and Georgio. Both incredibly friendly with great English skills. The hotel staff made sure we had a good time and helped us whenever we needed it.

The hotel was very clean and comfortable and Internet service was available for free upon request.

They also have a really cool parrot that lives in a cage right at the entry way to the hotel.

Overall, I was very impressed with everything, and I can't wait to go back.

The hotel is beautiful, and everyone there is so incredibly sweet! They made our stay very enjoyable. The hotel is in the best location - walking down to the center from there has the most unbelievable views. We walked everywhere and got to see all of the hotels, but we felt ours was the best and will definitely stay there again during our next trip!

The Hotel was a little away from the main square, but the trouble of walking/driving up there was worth it. The rooms were clean and well maintained. the lobby though not very fanciful, was good for relaxing and meeting friends. the transportation to Amalfi square and other areas on the coast was very convenient, after one has bought a three day bus ticket.

The highlight of our stay was very co-operative and friendly attitude of the staff/Management. we were overwhelmed with their service and friendliness.
An excellent hotel for Value conscious traveller.

My spouse thought this place was a dump. It does look like a dump, from the outside. I'm not sure why the owners don't invest in some long-overdue paint.

From the inside, however, it's not so bad. We had a seaview balcony room, which offered amazing views from the large balcony. 180 degree views of the bay of Naples, watching the cruise ships coming in, looking at the coastline and the lights of Amalfi, it really is in a great location.

The room and bathroom were generously sized, clean, and comfortable. Some of the ratty towels need to be replaced however.

The staff was very nice as well, offering to take us into town even outside of regularly scheduled shuttle trips. The walk to and from town isn't so bad either--about 15 minutes downhill and 20 back up. if you're coming along the coast, do get the bus to drop you off at the hotel though, so you don't have to make that hike pulling luggage.

Room Tip: Go for the seaview/balcony room.

Stayed in at the villa across the street from hotel. Truly amazing views from terrace. Villa was quiet and private and absolutely beautiful. Room was very clean with a large bathroom. Hotel staff was fantastic - very friendly. Very good breakfast as well. Amazing stay, but be warned that the hotel is a bit of a walk from the town (15-20 min up/down hill)

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the Villa

Staff/Hotel: After a breathtaking drive up the winding mountain/cliffs, the hotel staff greeted us so warmly. They had breakfast and tea ready for us although it was midday and also upgraded our room to a beautiful seaview room. All the staff were full of character, were friendly, helpful & smiling. Our room and bathroom was clean and overlooked the hotel terrace and beautiful blue sea. Hotel has internet access, although the computer is pretty slow! Bring your own travel iron. We were also able to use the kitchen while the kitchen staff were there. Georgio also kindly showed us around the hotel's beautiful lemon tree garden.

Travel from Hotel: The hotel provided a shuttle service at whatever time suited us to be driven 5 minutes to the Amalfi Bus station, shopping/market area and Amalfi coast. From here we could take buses to all the main local attractions/connections: Positano, Ravello, Salerno, Sorrento, Pompeii etc. The bus journeys could take between 30 mins to an hour & a half but the views were beautiful. We could also take a ferry ride from Amalfi to Capri, Positano, Salerno or Sorrento. We realised later that we could easily walk from the hotel to Amalfi Bus stn/Shopping area etc aswell, it took only 20mins.

TIPS:
1. If you arrive by Easy Jet's late flight, you'll get to Naples by 8pm by which time there will be no buses to Amalfi. So if you dont want to pay 130euros for a taxi to the hotel, then take the morning flight. Always check when the last buses leave as if you get stuck, the taxis will rip you off as we got stuck in Sorrento and had to pay 100 euros to get back to the hotel. So ask Dei Cavalieri for a Sita bus timetable!
2. Take some good walking sandles/shoes so you can take advantage of the scenic rocky walks and tone up your legs, bums & tums (lol).
3. The hotel room has a fridge, so visit the supermarket in Amalfi and stock up with snacks. If you want to spend more time exploring the sites, take some snacks with you on your day visits.
4. Buy a 3 day pass for 20 euros, you can use this to jump on and off buses and trains.
5. Avoid excursions, they over charge! Do your own day trips. Capri is overrated, but worth the ferry trip and cable car ride. Herculaneum is more worth seeing that Pompeii. The gardens at Ravello are beautiful and Positani is nice for the beach. Amalfi is full of friendly people, amazing views, souvenir shops, the coast and the wednesday market. Sorrento is good for shopping - clothes, shoes, trainers etc.
6. Start the day early, you'll get more done!

***Recommendation for hotel staff: Tell the visitors about the bus times even if they don't ask. If you have visitors arriving on late flights, tell them by email there will definitely be no buses to take from the Naples to the hotel. This may give them time to change flight details or book a nights stay in Naples.

Room Tip: Seaview room is great!
