“Town center hotel on the sea front.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

Hotel Lidomare is a family run hotel in a beautiful old building with antique furniture very large rooms - at least ours was - beautiful sea views from some rooms. If you arrive by boat or by bus just look across the street and look for the white arches opposite the bus stop. This is the back of the hotel and the balcony of the rooms with sea views.
The staff in Lidomare were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was basic continental but perfectly fine.
Hotel Lidomare is right in the center of Amalfi and is accessed via some steps from the main street on the left after you pass under the arch entrance to the town square. This hotel is very good value for money.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms with a sea view. Ours had a balcony and could be a little noisy at night but its wort...

This boutique hotel is in an excellent position, a few minutes walk from the bus station .The large rooms with balcony overlook the sea & beach. Comfortable clean beds & rooms. We found Amalfi a good central point to go out on day trips from, and the bus system although crowded is excellent. Breakfast was continental style & the staff were more than happy to serve us tea in our room when requested.

Room Tip: Make sure you book well ahead for a room with a balcony overlooking the ocean

Small good value for money hotel in the heart of Amalfi. Friendly staff and clean comfortable rooms with no frills. Breakfast quite adequate. Book a sea view room for an interesting view of the front - the traffic noise is nearly all blocked out by the doors and shutters. Only downside are the 27 steep steps up to the hotel.

Room Tip: Worth booking a sea view room with a balcony. The French windows and shutters block out almost all...

We stayed four nights at Hotel Lidomare just this last weekend in Amalfi. It is situated right at the front on the township with only a few steps up to the door. We caught the bus there from Salerno train station which was crowded but if we had realised there was another bus just one minute later we would have waited for that one.The bus ride is sensational with wonderful views of the Mediteranean and the townships built uip off the rocks and into the mountains, breathtaking! There are sea view rooms with balconys that are fabulous, which of course we requested well kn advance. With antique furniture and old style hospitality. The rooms are spacious and clean with that Italian flavour of tiled floors. The staff are delightful and cheerful as well as helpful and kind. breakfast is the usual continental style. We would recommend this place because of the views and proximity to the main square, the bus tops, and still it is quiet enough to sleep and relax. The only detractor for today's traveller is that one has to go into the breakfast area or Wifi zone to connect to the Internet as it doesn't work in the bedrooms. The only other thing is the English channels only have CNN, but that is the case in a lot of places in Italy.

Room Tip: Request a sea view room in advance

It feels a little like sitting in the family's living room and when the breakfast room is full, they actually do seat you in their living room! Staff is very friendly so I won't consider the rather poor breakfast in the review. Rooms and bathrooms were OK. We had a sea-view room only the second night as we had no booking. The sea-view is somewhat spoiled in Amalfi, the bus stand and a parking lot are located between the beach and the village.

We arrived in Amalfi by ferry on a hot sunny day after a tiring day of travel from Milan then Salerno. We had a few problems finding the hotel (don't rely on Google maps!) as it is in a large square rather than on a street. However if you head from the ocean and main bus area down the main street, you will pass some shops and see the Duomo on your right. Immediately opposite is a laneway on the left side (where there is a Deutsche Bank). Turn left up the stairs here and walk across the square (this is the Larco Duchi Piccolomini) and you will see the hotel at the end. In retrospect knowing what the hotel looked like, you can see the hotel from the ocean and the road outside the bus stop!

The hotel: it is a family-run hotel in an extremely central location in Amalfi. You are essentially in the middle of town, opposite the Duomo, and surrounded by many restaurants and shops. We were fortunate to have a ground floor room so we didn't need to carry our luggage upstairs. The wifi is free, although we were never able to get connectivity in our room (so we sat in the breakfast room near reception to use the internet). They didn't have any city maps for us to use, but the owner kindly let us look at one of his large maps and we took all the photos we needed of the maps to use! Breakfast included cornflakes, spreads and prepacked biscuit snacks (help yourself) as well as croissants and bread and hot drinks (served by the maids) - enough to get you started.

The room: the room was reasonably large with two single beds, an enormous gilded mirror and some old-fashioned upholstered chairs and an armless armchair as well as homely lamps around the room. There was a fridge (with some minibar items which we didn't use) and in-room safe. We had windows that opened to a balcony with views of the sea as well as the shops and buses in the main square! It was beautiful to stand there and admire the view!

The bathroom: we had big thick towels and plenty of soap and toiletries for our four-night stay. There was a lovely rainwater showerhead (the shower cubicle itself was tiny) - perfect for getting clean after each full day of hiking!

We stayed at the hotel to do a lot of hiking around Amalfi (Ravello, Scala, Valle delle Ferriere, Valle del Mulini, Torre de Zirro, Pontone, Atrani, Minori and Maiori) and it was the perfect place to stay and unwind and rest before the next big day of hiking. We were always welcomed back to the hotel with a smile and it was a delightful and friendly place to stay. I would have no hesitation in staying here again!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony and a view of the sea!

Well located hotel, with view on the sea for some rooms, and close to the bus station. We had a balcony looking out to the sea. Very nice. Clean large room. Fair breakfast (but limited items). Staff helpful.

Staff could have known more about making collect calls to America.

WIFI not working but staff let us used their laptop / internet.
