“Great Views Of The Amalfi Coast and Town From Your Window”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2009

We are very pleased by our recent stay at Hotel Marina Riviera. A 50th Birthday celebration was our reason in staying in Amalfi and the views of the Amalfi Coast was a great treat. The room had a very large window that receded into the wall which allowed the sounds of the waves in. The front desk was very helpful in suggesting a nice dinner. I did alot of research of the area and will be more than happy to help if you have any questions. The coastal drive from Naples was left to our driver (Great Suggestion About The Driver) and the rest of the transportation was with Bus and Ferry (and Jet Boat). I suggest taking motion sickness pills when riding the bus to any of the other towns along the coast. The bus can be hot and the smell and winding roads and be a recipe for disaster. A small bag of candy ginger can be helpful. Please do not rent a car as there are no available parking spaces along the coast and the roads are really built for one car but somehow two cars or bus(s) make it through. It is a hair raising experience. As with the hotel, we could have not picked a better spot as the bus and ferry port was near by to explore other areas of the coast and the made to order eggs and coffee and other items for breakfast make it seem that you are on a cruise to many ports. There are alot of things to remember when using the bus as you must have your bus ticket stamped before sitting down or the "Bus Police" that board so often will fine you 40 Euro(s). Paestam (Greek Ruins) due south is another treat and a 50 minute bus ride to Salerno and a 30 Minute Train ride south will get you there but remember to stamp your train ticket before boarding or the same "police" will fine you. The Greek Ruins in Paestam is worth the trip as it reminds anyone of Athens Greece. The small town of Ravello is a 25 minute ride above Amalfi and there are lovely concerts played at the Palace. One of the top 10 pools of the world is located in Ravello at Hotel Caruso. The Island of Capri is close by if you take the Jet Boat but watch the time when the last boat returns to Amalfi or a boat to Naples and a long bus ride to Amalfi will be the next step. Many have said the the Blue Groto is not worth it since there are a lot of people trying to fit through a small hole and many hands are out for tips. Again, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

When we decided to go to Amalfi for a well earned week's holiday we looked on Trip Advisor before deciding where to stay. Purely based on the reviews we picked the Marina Riviera and were not disappointed with our choice!!
The view from the balcony in our room - No. 57 - was lovely overlooking the whole town. The room itself was decorated beautifully having a kingsized bed which was really comfy, a minibar, more than enough wardrobe & drawer space, a largish bathroom with a great shower over a bath and nice big bath towels. The room had a lovely plate of fruit and fresh flowers when we arrived and was kept spotlessly clean all week as was the whole hotel. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the breakfast was always brilliant. There was plently of choice and there were different dishes everyday to go with the cereals, yogurts, fruit & a choice of eggs.
The hotel had a private section of the beach which cost about 7euros a day to go to but we preferred to sit on their sundeck on top of the hotel which had sunbeds, tables and umbrellas for free.
We would definately go back there again.

The hotel is perfect walking distance from any of the ferries and the center of the city. Views were breathtaking and the breakfast was the best of the trip! The room and bathroom were clean, and there was a nice jacuzzi as well as a standing shower. However, the second night we were there, the air-conditioning completely shut down (it was only our room as others did not experience the same thing). In addition, the street noise (all night as it was a Saturday) combined with hall noise (room 51 is adjacent to the elevator, so people waiting for it have full conversations and sound as if they were standing next to your bed!). Needless to say, a sleepless sweaty night doesn't do much for a relaxing vacation. The manager was unwilling to give any concessions to the room rate due to the malfunctioning AC, offering only a free night next time we return when better windows/doors are in place.

First of all, this is the best breakfast we have had at any 4 star hotel in Italy. We love italian cured meats (ham, salami etc), cheese, tomatos and fruit and it was excellent to start our day eating this on terrace with the lovely view.

Secondly, the location is perfect. The hotel is located only 5 mins walking from the pier where you can get transport by either boat or bus. It is only 5-10 mins walking to the nearby small village of Atrani, that is worth a visit.

The size of the room and the cleanliness is also excellent. We had room 75, which did not have a private balcony, but a large window that could be opened.

The beds were too small for our comfort. We had twin beds and we always had a feeling that we were close to end up on the floor (and we are normal and skinny).

The hotel also charge extra for the WiFi and use of the guest PC. Honestly, with the room rate we paid (appox 200 EUR/day) this service should have been included.

We could hardly hear any noise from the main street below the hotel when the window was shut. However, the noise from the breakfast/kitchen area woke us up too early every morning.

Anyway, the negative issues are only minor and we would be happy to stay in this hotel next time we visit Amalfi.

The hotel has an agreement with one of the "beach owners" on the town beach where you pay 7 EUR/sunbed. This town beach is very crowded and not very pleasant. We recommend going to the beach called Santa Croce, which is only a short boat ride away from Amalfi.

Hotel Marina Riviera is conveniently located close to the beach in the heart of Amalfi, just a few minutes from the main square. There are beautiful views of the ocean/harbor from the breakfast room/balcony and many of the rooms. It is the type of hotel where each room has been decorated thoughtfully and uniquely. Our room was very bright with a beautiful arched ceiling, large windows and a lovely balcony overlooking the marina. The bathroom was well equipped with both a rain shower and Jacuzzi tub.

The Lobby/Breakfast room is locally decorated with hand painted tiles and ceramic table tops. Breakfast includes a nice spread of fresh pastries, meats, cheeses and dishes. Eggs are cooked to order (and recommended). The Staff was very attentive and answered any questions we had about the town or how to get around the Amalfi Coast.

I would highly recommend staying here if you are in town and hope you have as wonderful a time as we did.

Enjoyed a birthday treat with friends. An excellent hotel giving superb service where all the staff and owners were very friendly and couldn't do enough for you. Our room was large, very clean and stylish with a direct view over Amalfi and the beach, the only hotel I've been in where your sheets are changed daily with the towels. Breakfast is a large variety of breads, meat, cheese, fruit and pastries which are all varied daily. The Hotel is an easy five minute stroll into Amalfi along the coast road and has a lovely large and bright breakfast room and terrace. I will definitely be going back again, the only improvement I can see would be if they could install a 'hot tub' on the roof terrace, perfection!
