“Well worth the climb”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2013

Loved the history, the art, the religious significance.
Hard climbing the steep steps to the Duomo, but well worth it.

“Big cathedral in a small place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2013

Amalfi's maritime power in the past helped for such a big cathedral. From the Duomo square 62 broad steps lead you to the church. Its façade has an excellent mosaic depicting Triumph of Christ and his 12 apostles in gold. The bell tower is covered by colorful majolica tiles. Arab-Norman Romanesque are the main architectural styles but also Baroque, Gothic, Renaissance and even Byzantine. 20 multicolor marble columns separate the nave from two aisles. The ceiling showing scenes of Saint Andrew martyrdom is painted by Andrea dell'Asta who painted also High Altar's Sant'Andrea. There are different small chapels and the coffin of dead Christ which is carried through the streets of Amalfi on Good Friday.Very insteresting is the bronze statue of the Saint by Naccherino Michelangelo, one of Michelangelo's pupils. There is no entrance fee for the church but if you have time to visit the Basilica of the Crucifix, the Paradise Cloister and the Saint's crypt, you pay a few Euros only.

“Best attraction in AMalfi Coast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2013

We stayed 7 nights in Amalfi and found that this was probably the best attraction in the region. For 3 euros, it's more than worth it. The brochure they give at the entrance is very informative and detailed. The Duomo is very interesting and you can see the various influences Amalfi had over the centuries and that the city was very wealthy at some point.
