“Every day we were happy that we had selected precisely this hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2009

We've been staying in the Hotel Aurora within 12 days in September 2009. And every day we were happy that we had selected precisely this hotel. I'll try to explain why.
The hotel has almost everything that other good hotels can offer. First of all this is extremely helpful and friendly staff, one of the best I've ever seen. Rooms are clean, rather large and nice furnished, with all conveniences. All of them are different. I highly recommend booking a room with terrace. I have never had the balcony with sunbeds for this price. From our endless terrace we could watch all attractions of Amalfi: the town, mountains, yachts and coloured fishers boats in the seaport, beautiful sailing ships in the roads, sunrises over Italy, and, of course, the greatest sea view. Breakfast was pretty good. There were nothing extraordinary but everything you need for healthy meal in the morning. Besides, the charming terrace garden where breakfast was served makes indelible impression. A few steps from the hotel there is a nice restaurant "Lo Smeraldino" - I think, one of the best fish restaurants in Amalfi. As for me I couldn't find better.
But the main feature which any other hotel doesn't have is the most optimal position all over the town of Amalfi. The hotel has all advantages of the hotels with shore location, and the city hotels as well, and doesn't have their inconveniences. You don't have to climb every day upstairs from the beach or make your way to the town up and down on to serpentine road, pressing to the parapet in order to escape mad drivers. The small but comfortable beach lying at the bottom of picturesque rocks is located right in front of the hotel, just a few steps downstairs. And you can reach the Doumo, walking slowly on to the nice flat promenade for only 5 min.
So, in my opinion the Hotel Aurora is the best choice for different kinds of customers to stay in Amalfi.

This is a very nice, 3 star hotel. We got the "superior room" which provided us with an amazing deck with a sea view. The staff was very professional and helpful, especially Andrea, the manager, who was always available to answer questions. The location was near downtown Amalfi.

A few tips, skip the red bus to Ravello, it's better and cheaper to use the local SITA bus. Also, compare costs if you want a car from Naples airport to Amalfi or surrouonding towns, there's a wide difference in costs (we paid 107 euros and I saw it advertised online later for 37 euros.

Amalfi is expecially a nice place to visit, with a small population, continuing beauty and friendly people. We felt very safe and lots of people have some Englilsh proficiency. If you don't have grand scale money to spend, this is a very clean, nice option. We stayed 10 nights.

This hotel offers apartments for those travelers seeking a more independent experience. I stayed in the smallest; it has a full kitchen, dining area that seats four, a living room with a couch/bed, a bedroom with king size bed and a well appointed bathroom. Air conditioning/heating units are in the bedroom and living area. The apartment is centrally located to all the Amalfi action of the main square, but is quiet, being separated by a tunnel that bypasses the Duomo and enters the square just right of the main gate and just across from the marvelous Cafe Francese . Fresh linens and towels are provided every 4 days or so if you are staying a week or more. Two supermarkets are very close by, one just off the main square and the other in the Piazza Del Doge, also just off the main square. Also, along the main square there are several little markets for fresh fruits and vegetables, meats, and dry goods. Lots of wine shops, too. Just visit them a couple of times, and you will be treated like a personal friend. The hotel staff is always available for suggestions and aid in making travel arrangements throughout the area, from renting cars with drivers to providing discount coupons to the area's restaurants. At reception, Andreas is most wonderfully knowledgeable and helpful. He will arrange all your needs. Both the hotel, a mere 10 minute walk from the apartment, and the apartment are right near the Sita bus station and the ferry station if you wish to visit other cities or nearby islands, like Capri or Ischia. Andreas recommended the Silver Moon Ristorante for dining, and this became my favorite place to eat after spending much of the day on its beach. Ask for Romeo; he'll take good care of you. In the main Piazza (no ocean view of course), I also recommend Il Tari. During my 15 day stay, I always felt most welcome and like a member of the Amalfi family. I do intend to return as soon as possible to the Hotel Aurora and its apartments.

Fabulous small hotel tucked away in small pocket of Amalfi with the most amazing views. Worth getting one of the superior rooms - the balconies are huge. Staff are lovely, very helpful. Have breakfast out in the patio area - not a bad way to start the day! Only a short walk into Amalfi centre. Have been a couple of times to this hotel over the years and it just gets better and better.
Can't wait for my next visit.

The hotel is located right at the harbour within a 10 min. walking distance to downtown Amalfi. Despite the high prices everywhere around - this one is a real bargain. The rooms are medium sized with charming interior, bathroom small but not too small (with everything's working properly). The hotel itself is very charming, patio breakfast with a stunning view on the ocean and a deluxe breakfast italian style (excellent cold cuts, chesse, fresh rolls and toast, jam....you name it). The staff was among the most friendly I've encountered - ever. Helpful, attentive, discrete (even multilingual: english, german, italian). If you go to Amalfi, book the Aurora - don't bother to go anywhere else. This is the place.

The location is wonderful - you don't need shuttle buses or to be super fit to cope with the return from town- it's flat.
The staff are great- friendly, helpful but not pushy
We paid the extra for a superior room and it was definitely worth it.
I'm a light sleeper and slept well which in Italy is unusual
Would I recommend this hotel- definitely; a three star find ( don't expect five star and you won't be disappointed and don't forget that all costs are high when you compare the Euro and the pound)

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Aurora Hotel is the perfect spot to spend an unforgettable holiday in Amalfi.Located nearby the Amalfi Marina, the hotel is only 500 meters from the hustle and bustle of Piazza Duomo. It is the ideal accommodation for visiting the Amalfi Coast and its picturesque villages, such as Ravello, Positano, Capri and even the Pompeii Excavation, which are all within easy reach. The bus station and the wharf are only 5 minutes’ walk from the hotel. After a long day-trip, Aurora Hotel is just a short walk to downtown and the beach, and it is accessible without climbing stairs. One final recommendation from the hotel management: if you want to spend a few relaxing days in Amalfi, please check Aurora Hotel location on Google Maps and compare it with other hotels. Most of Amalfi hotels are located in the noisy old Town, accessible by climbing long stairs; some others are located on the highway to Positano, so you will need to take the bus, a taxi or your car in order to reach the city, driving down one of the busiest roads in Italy! ... more   less
