“Stunning hotel with stunning views”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2010

This must rank as the best hotel we have ever stayed in. From arrival to departure the standard of service was exemplary. This is not a stuffy hotel, but it is glamourous with charm and warmth. This derives from the fact that it is independently owned and the staff here really care about the service that they provide.
We had booked a deluxe double but they had upgraded us to a suite in the Villa Rossi. which was located via a lift ride and a short walk through the terraced garden. Our room was large with a balcony containing two seating areas. The room itself contained a very large and comfortable bed, a walk in wardrobe, a very nice bathroom with his and hers sinks, a seating area and, oh yes, the room also contained a 6 foot by 6 foot jacuzzi!
We had booked half board ( as part of our package from Citalia, fantastic value) and found the quality of the food at both breakfast and dinner to be excellent. The waiting staff were all very well trained and knowledgable about the items being served. They were closely supervised by the Maitre D' who knew the standards that were required and made sure that those standards did not slip.
Tne hotel is located about 1 km outside Amalfi, you can walk into the town but this involves walking along the very busy road, it is not a walk you could call relaxing. The hotel offers a free half hourly shuttle from 8 - 12 and then 3 - 6:30, the member of staff who usually drove the shuttle was one of the doormen and like all the staff was very friendy and professional.
The hotel has a pool and sunbathing beach area, spa and small gym. These are reached via a stunning lft ride due to the lovely views. The terraced gardens within which the hotel is situated are lovely with beautiful fragrant wisteria, lemon and orange trees. It is a tranquil oasis of beauty and calm. Do not hesitate to book this hotel, you will not be disappointed and will be counting the days to your return as we are doing. Enjoy!

We spent 5 days of our honeymoon thoroughly enjoying the delights of the Romeo and Juliet private villa and the wonderful service that all the staff provided. Unlike other top quality hotels, the staff are extremely friendly and just can't do enough for you - this really does mark it out from 'the rest'.

The views are spectacular even when its overcast and the location of the villa - perched on the edge of the cliff, nestled amongst the most amazing lemon groves - is perfect. The only downside is the occasional over-zealous and loud tourist boat passing a couple of hundred yards away.

We had some lovely meals there - the local fish is fantastic and the special chocolate and lemon souffle is to die for!

Highly, highly recommend this and just put your best 5-star smile and wave when the tourist boats pass by!

Absolutely lavish & amazing.
Sublime service.......expensive so good to go in early April as the season starts.
Portions are very small in the restaurant; so don't go if you are starving!
I would certainly go again...book room 5....with a jacuzzi view over the coastline :)

4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2010

My family spent two nights in the property in early April in adjacent junior suites- a nice upgrade from the management. The rooms were accessed along outside paths overhung with gorgeous fragrant wisteria and lemons. Both rooms had separate seating areas ( a nice complimentary tray of fruit, cookies and water) and balconies looking straight out to sea. The floors are typical painted white ceramic tiles tiles and the walls and furnishings white. It was still fresh in the mornings and the heating was on full blast in both rooms. We managed to switch it down in one room but never found the controls in the other so had to open the windows wide which was very wasteful. The beds were definitely too firm for us and we didn't sleep very well either night.
Ideal access to the town would be by boat or helicopter! We drove the whole coast and it was pretty hair raising. The hotel is situated a little out of town but there was a shuttle every half hour until 6.30.
Possibly because of the out of town location we elected to eat both nights in the restaurant. The food was excellent on both occasions even for fussy eaters. Our only negative comment is that on the second night the piano player never got out of the minor key, and by the time the food finally arrived- well over an hour even though there was barely anyone one there, we were all feeling near suicidal. A few calories later and our spirits were restored but it was a painful experience.
The whole coast seems to live on its bygone reputation but we liked the central square in Amalfi. The service in the hotel was the one thing that made us feel less ripped off by the whole Italian experience. I would have given five stars to the service if we hadn't been recommended to visit the local Emerald Grotto which must be some sort of local joke. We even overheard a poor traveler in Capri lamenting his lost euros. Talk about throwing money down a black hole... We liked the hotel in its rather dated former glory and the fact that the staff really seemed committed. But I'm not sure we shall be back to the Amalfi Coast any time soon.

The Sanat Caterina is probably one of the best hotels in the world that we have stayed at. Its setting is spectatcular but it is the quality of the food and the service which sets it apart. The prices are high but it nevertheless represents good value, especially in an area ruined by mass tourism and poor hospitality. Do eat dinner in the restaurant every night of your stay..the Maitre D' is a true professional and offers an exceptional service..if you don't go for anything else, his impact and service is worth the visit!

Loved the hotel and its surroundings. Wonderful and attentive service - Franco in the reception was so nice and helpful.
Fantastic views!
The food in the restaurant though is only average but we liked eating there because of view and service.

I dont think I would go to Amalfi in the summer - I can imagine that it must be crowded with tourists in the small villages - we could se that there are tons of souvenir shops and places for busses. And - the roads are narrow so it makes it hard for a bus to drive around which already in april made it hard to drive around. The italiens there drive like crazy on the small roads.
