We researched many venues on the Amalfi coast before deciding on Santa Catarina. We weren't disappointed. Indeed it exceeded expectations. Pictures merely give you a hint of the vistas that can only be described as spectacular. How the craftsmen built these structures into the cliffs hundreds of years ago also startles you. Where shall I start? The geography certainly, from the view of Vesuvius leaving Naples airport, the winding (very winding) road over/through the mountain to reach that magnificent coast that has enchanted countless travelers for centuries. The hotel is immaculate and staffed by professionals that have spent their entire lives working there for the Gambardella family. Our junior suite overlooked the sea, the terra cotta terrace for morning coffee, complimentary NY Times, full breakfast included that could have fed us for the day. Free shuttle for the 5 minute ride to town. Many sites to see, shopping in Amalfi , Positano and Ravello. Swimming in the salt water pool or a dip in the Tyrrhenian Sea. Dinner at SC should not be missed. A limoncello by the fireplace and candlelight. Asleep under a starry sky in Frette linen sheets changed daily. I better stop; I'm getting depressed.

This was the most elegant, warm, and welcoming hotel I have ever stayed in. The staff could not do enough for you, the food was delicious, and the breakfast buffet was the absolute best. We had a wonderful time and loved being situated in Amalfi. Great place, great staff, great food, great everything!!

Room Tip: try to get a partial view of the water and watch the sunset.

This is the most excellent hotel. The staff are there for you in every way, the quality and detail of the service was impeccable. The hotel itself is in the most wonderful setting and the rooms, gardens and public areas are superb. The dinning experience was just amazing. We had the most welcome and wonderful experience in our stay at the Santa Caterina and would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone. We'll be back for sure.

Room Tip: They are all good but one with partial sea view would be ideal

I loved everything about the Santa Caterina hotel when I stayed this month. The service was impeccable - the staff were friendly and couldn't do enough to help (Mateo from concierge in particular). I would say overall it has a relaxed atmosphere which I really like in a 5* hotel. It was also the best night's sleep I'd had in a while - room 97 (a superior/deluxe room), shares a small garden space with other rooms, overlooking the sea. It was very quiet and had a comfortable bed. What I've found with (5*) hotels on the Amalfi coast is that they are more charming, individual, personal and homely than those in many other countries, or cities. The Santa Caterina is a perfect example of this and I hope to visit there again.

Room Tip: Superior/deluxe room with the garden area - 97 and 98 are perfect.

This was my return visit and the hotel only gets better each time. There have been new rooms added as well as a new suite.... all spectacular. This visit we had adjoining rooms in the building which was completely rebuilt since last year. The rooms are beautifully decorated and have a jaw dropping view overlooking the sea. These rooms have a separate Jacuzzi tub in the living room as well as a full shower in the bath with many water jets...quite powerful. The hotel was just reopening for the season and spectacular plants and flowers were in full bloom. The staff all have long term service and always remember the names of return guests. The food is spectacular with an emphasis on fresh fish and many wines from the local Amalfi Coast vineyards. The buffet breakfast is completely filling with every imaginable item. A chef is also cooking eggs to order at the buffet station. the beautiful pool was filled and the water heated so ready for a nice swim. the local area has much to see and the hotel offers shuttle minivan service down to the village so you can pick up various buses boats and sightseeing services. We arrived from Sorrento by boat and the hotel driver met us next to the pier. Just perfect. Our next stop was Positano so we ordered a car service as it would be difficult arriving at the pier and managing the luggage. The route is so scenic by car also.

Room Tip: All rooms are different so it doesn't matter as they are spectacular regardless of the view. As...

I am very surprised by the other reviews of this hotel giving it five stars, which I can only guess are blinded by the Amalfi experience in general and not guided by the hotel. We had a lovely experience at this hotel, waking up to a view of the Amalfi coast from our room, eating a late dinner on the gorgeous clifftop terrace and walking down through a mountain of lemon trees to get to the stunning cliffside pool area. The staff was friendly, and incredibly helpful (one rescued a left-behind laptop and brought it straight to our room!). That being said, the hotel itself is very dated and lacks charm. The lobby looks like it has not been renovated since the 1980's. The room had all the amenities you would need, but also needed updating badly - our room smelled of mold when we arrived and we had to air it out, the linens were starchy and not comfortable, and the room had little decor. The TV was tiny, which isn't an issue, but another point to demonstrate why this is not a five star hotel. We would return to the Amalfi and even to this hotel, but do so because this is a quaint hotel in a gorgeous location and not because we are expecting a five star luxury experience.

Uniquely charming. Excellent accommodations, service, food, and picturesque views. Lovely staff. Well located. One can visit, Positano, Ravello, and Capri via car or ferry. Roads can be a bit troublesome for those who suffer from motion sickness. Bring your Dramamine:-)
