This is a 5 Star hotel and that, plus it's in Italy, means it isn't cheap! Overall it is a great hotel - our room with a sea view was delightful - clean, spacious and in excellent condition throughout.
We went bed and breakfast and breakfast was very, very good with enormous choices of bread, rolls, cereal, cakes, fruit, fish, cheese, sliced meats, hot breakfast and eggs cooked to order (scrambled, omelette, fried, poached), fresh orange/grapefruit juices and prosecco etc etc.
Lunch can be had down by the pool (Mare Pranzo) and this was also excellent - expect to pay Euro 150 - 200
The evening menu was very good and the wine selection excellent - expect to pay Euro 200 - 250.
Staff and service was exceptional throughout with waiters carrying breakfast dishes you had selected to your table for you (I personally found this a bit "over the top"), bringing you your egg order when it had been cooked etc etc.Every single member of the staff smiled and chatted as if they were pleased to have you there and loved their jobs.
A couple of minor downsides:
Drinks were VERY expensive and as we were celebrating our anniversary we drank A LOT! Unfortunately my wife and I tend to drink different drinks from each other and the best way of easing the drinks bill is to share a bottle of wine!
The hotel didn't advertise snack menus for those times like lunch or evenings when you didn't fancy a 1st Class ding experience.
As a result we noticed many of the guests went out for lunch and dinner (and drinks). The Palazzo Avino in Ravello (another 5 star hotel) had a casual dining area on the terrace which we thought could be applied to the Santa Caterina.
One final little niggle - the courtesy car to Amalfi town stops at 12 noon and starts again at 3pm, finishing at 6.30pm. Not everyone wants to tie themselves to this schedule and we found ourselves taking taxis regularly at Euro10 each way. I realise the driver has to have lunch but surely the old tradition of a 3 hour lunch could be curtailed in 2013 and a later finish at say 8pm for the car means that people who like to eat a little later can be accommodated.
Other than that a good time was had by all!!!

Room Tip: Sea view rooms are great - ask for 9 or 12

Stopped here for lunch on our way to Ravello during a trip to Sorrento and the Amalfi coast. This hotel is stunning - the service we received was excellent and warm, from the moment they take your car keys from you to park your car when we left the hotel three hours later.

Our lunch and accompanying wine was superb and the view from the open restaurant is simply breathtaking. We will definitely return to the Santa Caterina next time we visit the Amalfi Coast.

The staff at the Hotel Santa Caterina was very attentive and responsive. For example, upon our evening check in, I had enquired as to where I could buy a flat iron. To my delight in the morning the staff delivered 2 options to consider for purchase. I loved both of them and I didn't need a converter.
The concierge, Gennaro was incredibly helpful in recommending and scheduling our activities each day in Amalfi and along the coast. Our private boat charter greeted us at the hotel pool area next to the sea.
Most of the staff has been there between 15-30 years reflecting the outstanding personal service.
The prime location of the property is minutes to town by the hotel’s free shuttle service.
I loved that the rooms are unique with appointed locally crafted tiles, stone and other furnishings. I highly recommend the suites that are located among the lush gardens and private walk ways with spectacular views of the coast line and the sea.
Breakfast (included in our hotel stay price) was an expansive selection of fresh fruits, hot entrees, cereals, pastries, coffee, teas and made to order eggs. Lunch on a terrace just above the hotel’s Beach Club was equally delicious especially the wooden stove specialty pizza from the zucchini style to seafood with fresh clams and mussels. Dinner with a spectacular view no matter where your table is located overlooks the town of Amalfi, coast and the sea as with the other restaurants at the hotel was exceptional! The sommelier is very knowledgeable and helpful and took exceptional care to decant our Barolo, ensuring that he trapped all the sentiment.
I also recommend a day at the delightful spa.
This is truly the place to stay for your Amalfi vacation.

Room Tip: Rooms on the front of hotel are along the street. The one thing that all the rooms I looked have are...

My husband and I like to stay at the best hotels and in their nicest suites and sometimes it's hard to find reviews that speak to those particular descriptions so I thought I'd write this for the discriminating traveler interested in the ultimate suite/hotel on the Amalfi Coast. We recently stayed at Sana Caterina in their Romeo and Guieletta suite, and found it to be lovely, but not quite what we had hoped for. It's in need or a renovation, as the furnishing feel tired and a bit outdated. Plus the view out of the master although lovely, was just ok, since the doors/windows opening up to that were surprisingly small and off to the side a bit. It's on 2 levels so the bedroom is also quite small and the bathroom nothing special. The outside pool is lovely and has incredible views, but honestly, we had just come from staying at Ana Capri's Capri Palace Acropolis Suite and it's a much more impressive suite (albeit more expensive) but worth the splurge. It has a huge balcony with small pool overlooking the Ocean, was recently renovated with gorgeous furnishings, and the suite is elegant and spacious. Although we agreed the service was actually better at Caterina (the staff was so friendly and lovely), and the restaurant at Caterina was amazing and worth a visit, the rooms were not as impressive as Capri Palace and we preferred Capri Palace as the place to stay.

The view from this hotel is amazing.
situated on high above the sea with spectacular view .
Restaurant at this hotel is also amazing.
Meal and wine selections are great and i loved their recommended local wine so we visited their winery next day.
waiters are very polite and knowledgeable.
they have a lot of celebrities and famous visitors including hirary clinton.
hotel rooms are not so big but well decorated with taste.
nice view from the room and they also have suits thats far from the main building which is very charming and private.
i would definitely recommend this hotel and restaurant at the hotel to anyone. we had such great time.
also the restaurant had live music with piano and a singer. it was so amazing!!!!!

This is the hotel to stay at while visiting Amalfi Town on the Amalfi coast.
The location can not be beat with walking to town but also on the water. The hotel has an elevator down to it's own very private beach (no sand) club which was wonderful.
Dinner and breakfast were wonderful. Very helpful staff if maybe a little too formal.
Our room was priced at 550 euro and was very small and loud since it was facing the street. It was one floor down from the lobby facing south. We did have a peak of the ocean but the balcony since facing the strew was too loud to enjoy. It was the last room available so we did not have a choice to move. i would book early and splurge and stay in an ocean front room or villa.
We did not use the spa but it looked small and not impressive.

Room Tip: Book early and get an Ocean view room as high up as possible or in a separate villa

Very nice hotel with, as many reviewers have said, plenty of old-style Italian grace and charm. The hotel commands a stunning view over Amalfi and across to Salerno and is convenient for exploring Amalfi and Ravello, and Positano and Salerno by boat. Amalfi can be accessed by the hotel shuttle, or cab, and can be walked although the return trip is up a pretty steep climb with incomplete pavements which would definitely not suit the infirm or those with young children. The concierge and reception staff were very helpful and accommodating and the rooms are very comfortable. The tiled floor thoughout the public areas can make for some excess noise at night, particularly if an event is going on or you have 'neighbours' who have a habit of returning to their rooms late at night a little the worse for wear! The free WiFi and in-room DVD player saved us on a couple of very wet days, when there is little else to do but relax in this location; its a long, and expensive cab ride to anywhere else and most people will tire of Amalfi within one visit. The bar and waiting staff are extraordinary, but be aware that you will pay for the privilege. A great experience but for that special trip which you have an expanded budget.

Room Tip: Rooms on the left-hand side are shadier but are closer to the service area. The bins are emptied mos...
