“Santa Caterina versus Capri Palace Suites”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2013

My husband and I like to stay at the best hotels and in their nicest suites and sometimes it's hard to find reviews that speak to those particular descriptions so I thought I'd write this for the discriminating traveler interested in the ultimate suite/hotel on the Amalfi Coast. We recently stayed at Sana Caterina in their Romeo and Guieletta suite, and found it to be lovely, but not quite what we had hoped for. It's in need or a renovation, as the furnishing feel tired and a bit outdated. Plus the view out of the master although lovely, was just ok, since the doors/windows opening up to that were surprisingly small and off to the side a bit. It's on 2 levels so the bedroom is also quite small and the bathroom nothing special. The outside pool is lovely and has incredible views, but honestly, we had just come from staying at Ana Capri's Capri Palace Acropolis Suite and it's a much more impressive suite (albeit more expensive) but worth the splurge. It has a huge balcony with small pool overlooking the Ocean, was recently renovated with gorgeous furnishings, and the suite is elegant and spacious. Although we agreed the service was actually better at Caterina (the staff was so friendly and lovely), and the restaurant at Caterina was amazing and worth a visit, the rooms were not as impressive as Capri Palace and we preferred Capri Palace as the place to stay.

The view from this hotel is amazing.
situated on high above the sea with spectacular view .
Restaurant at this hotel is also amazing.
Meal and wine selections are great and i loved their recommended local wine so we visited their winery next day.
waiters are very polite and knowledgeable.
they have a lot of celebrities and famous visitors including hirary clinton.
hotel rooms are not so big but well decorated with taste.
nice view from the room and they also have suits thats far from the main building which is very charming and private.
i would definitely recommend this hotel and restaurant at the hotel to anyone. we had such great time.
also the restaurant had live music with piano and a singer. it was so amazing!!!!!

This is the hotel to stay at while visiting Amalfi Town on the Amalfi coast.
The location can not be beat with walking to town but also on the water. The hotel has an elevator down to it's own very private beach (no sand) club which was wonderful.
Dinner and breakfast were wonderful. Very helpful staff if maybe a little too formal.
Our room was priced at 550 euro and was very small and loud since it was facing the street. It was one floor down from the lobby facing south. We did have a peak of the ocean but the balcony since facing the strew was too loud to enjoy. It was the last room available so we did not have a choice to move. i would book early and splurge and stay in an ocean front room or villa.
We did not use the spa but it looked small and not impressive.

Room Tip: Book early and get an Ocean view room as high up as possible or in a separate villa

Very nice hotel with, as many reviewers have said, plenty of old-style Italian grace and charm. The hotel commands a stunning view over Amalfi and across to Salerno and is convenient for exploring Amalfi and Ravello, and Positano and Salerno by boat. Amalfi can be accessed by the hotel shuttle, or cab, and can be walked although the return trip is up a pretty steep climb with incomplete pavements which would definitely not suit the infirm or those with young children. The concierge and reception staff were very helpful and accommodating and the rooms are very comfortable. The tiled floor thoughout the public areas can make for some excess noise at night, particularly if an event is going on or you have 'neighbours' who have a habit of returning to their rooms late at night a little the worse for wear! The free WiFi and in-room DVD player saved us on a couple of very wet days, when there is little else to do but relax in this location; its a long, and expensive cab ride to anywhere else and most people will tire of Amalfi within one visit. The bar and waiting staff are extraordinary, but be aware that you will pay for the privilege. A great experience but for that special trip which you have an expanded budget.

Room Tip: Rooms on the left-hand side are shadier but are closer to the service area. The bins are emptied mos...

Just great, location, service, food etc, but priced accordingly. We stayed here with the family and were treated to great service and made feel so welcome. While the price is high, I would rate this hotel up with the best I have ever stayed in.

We have just returned from a really lovely week at the Santa Caterina. It's position over-looking Amalfi is superb, clinging impossibly to the cliff face. We arrived from Naples airport in the dark - the journey is a little testing with mile after mile of bends. Arrival was a relief.
We had booked the cheapest room but this turned out to be very nice and I'm not sure that I'd want to pay more for a better view. The furnishings and bedding were of a very good quality - I don't think that I've been to a hotel that used linen sheets. The towels were changed twice a day. The bath was in the bedroom which seemed a little odd, but the shower was and toiletries provided were very good.
The staff were always very helpful and polite. The food was very good, especially if you like fish. Breakfast was a buffet but the selection was huge - we really enjoyed the fresh fruit. Dinner was also very good although one night, Sunday, was a little disappointing.
The access to the pool area was an adventure with the lift. Here again the staff were always very helpful. The Al Mare restaurant was also very nice for lunch and twice the evening meal was served there.
Trips to Amalfi on the regular shuttle bus were a nice touch. Taxi's are expensive at €10 for about half a mile. The walk is OK in daylight but I wouldn't want to do it at night. We enquired about the cost of a taxi to Ravello but was told that it would be around €80 each way - a real rip-off when the red sight-seeing bus is €3 each way. We also took the boat to Positano but there didn't seem much there. We planned to go to Capri but the sea was too rough for the boats to run that particular day.
Santa Caterina is not cheap, but we did think it was worth the money and we would love to go back one day. It's a very special place.

Vacation of a life time. The views are AMAZING!! The staff at Hotel Santa Caterina are professional! We had room service in our balcony room overlooking the Mediterranean and yachts coming in for a wedding reception. Simply the best.

Room Tip: Deluxe Balcony room has an opening window in the bath tub area allowing the fresh sea air in. Love...
