“Very charming!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2014

We stayed here for two weeks last july. Our room was spacious, comfortable and clean, though slightly worn (by crazy Norwegian standards). Keep in mind that the area is quite expensive. The service was fantastic, Mariateresa provided helpful advice and perfect cappuccinos for breakfast (!). The location is perfect for getting to the beach or the center of Amalfi. The view was nothing much, but the Amalfi coast has no shortage of those.

I can wholeheartedly recommend Residenza Sole!

Not that there's a BAD location in Amalfi, but we loved being so close to the ocean and the main Marketplace in Amalfi but set back a little off the busy street. As with many hotels and B&Bs in Amalfi and elsewhere along the coast, you have to climb some stairs to get to Residenza Sole, but Maria-Theresa was right there to meet us at the bottom and hoisted my heavy suitcase up. She was so sweet, making our one-week stay there such a pleasure. Our room was clean and comfortable, and we enjoyed the breakfast each morning, served at a time of our choice and either in our room or on the patio. Thanks also for the loaner umbrellas.

I have nothing but good things to say about this B&B and the people who run it.

Residenza Sole is a small hotel with approximately 10 rooms. Every room has a different color and different planet name. The rooms and the bathrooms are large and well equipped. The breakfast is the same every morining and is pretty poor: toast, croissant, muffins, honey, jam, coffee, cappuccino, orange juice etc. You can have the breakfast in your room or on the hotel's terrace. The hotel is located in the back of the church, 2 min. from the beach, 3 min. from the bus station. The staff was very helpful, but you find them only in the morning or you need to call them. Amalfi is a beautiful place full with nice, small terraces, restaurants and souvenir shops. It was a very nice stay!

We visited Amalfi in September 2011 and this was on the last week of our 6 week train tour of Italy. Amalfi is a beautiful place and I recommend a visit to all. The Residenza Sole is a quaint place to stay and the staff were very helpful. The Residenza Sole is well hidden and you need to climb 40 odd steps to the front door, the breakfast is served on the balcony and the food is adequate, the room was large and clean.

First of all is not an hotel, even it’s advertised like it in the web!
The heating in the room was OFF. When we put it ON we discovered right away that the air conditioning was old and noisy, so noisy that we could either shout it OFF, and freeze, or leave it ON and be enable to fall asleep.
We made a reservation for a double room, they gave to us two single beds put near by: they would open in the middle and we were forced to sleep on the two opposite sides.
Service? No extra blankets or extra pillows available in the room, nothing to put your feet on after take a shower.
Parking? A very expensive surprise. In the main square it costs 3 euro per hour, and for the all night it means 24 euro. We complained and they parked it somewhere else charging 20 euro for 1 night, but I believe that the info should be made clear when you are booking. Parking was an hidden cost.
Location? Beautifully downtown, at foot distance from the cathedral! But that’s it! And don’t try to go on summer time: on the white walls there were evident signs of mosquito killed by other unfortunate guests: the only window is not protected by a mosquito net.
Breakfast? It was ok.

The hotel is nice, the rooms are big and spacy and very clean. But: it is very expensive for what they offer. Breakfast is poor, just a coffe and a croissant. We barely saw anybody there, even the day before our departure, I had to go to find a telephone to call the cell phone that was in a sign on the door, (luckily I had a phone card) to call the girl that had checked us because I wanted to pay since the next morning we would leave before breakfast (at 7 am). Yes, the car was brought to the piazza from the parking and we found the keys in a closet, but seemed like they didn't care about our needs.
We needed 3 separate beds. We found one double bed and one single. We asked for the beds to be separated and the girl told us that it would be done for the next day. No way, and the beds could have been separated.
I needed internet, this is one of the points I was sure to have. There was a laptop to be used, not always there (I had to call again finding a payphone for that) and even in the middle of it, the girl needed it so she asked me to use it. I had to stop doing what I was doing.
A pitty. Amalfi is a strnge place, interesting and with a special beauty. The hotel has everything to make you spend a great time, only if the owner pay attention to it, thing that was not at all in our feelings.
