“Gorgeous hotel with expansive views of the coast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2013

(sorry this is so long)This hotel was gorgeous, we cannot say enough about our stay and experience, I could really go on and on. My husband and I were at the Amalfi coast in July, 2013 and spent only a couple of nights at this hotel, and we were very impressed. It was a ‘splurge’ for us, would have LOVED to have stayed at this location longer. The views are spectacular, honestly breathtaking, and beautiful. We couldn’t have asked for a more comfortable and accommodating place. Let’s start with our first impression of this hotel; we were met in the lower lobby by a hotel staff who took us up to the 3rd floor where the main lobby/reception is located. All the while explaining to us the history of building, this was very interesting. Before we actually checked-in, he led us out to the veranda where we were met with a glass of fresh squeezed lemonade, we sat on beautiful and comfortable furniture overlooking the everlasting view of the coast, this view is stunning. We were in awe and felt so relaxed. He then let told us that we were upgraded to a suite type room; we were so thrilled and excited! We finished checking in and he brought us up to our suite, it was absolutely GORGEOUS! We could not get enough of the view; our 3 windows faced the water. We’ve stayed at beautiful hotels before, but this place was outstanding. When you come to it by water, like we did, it looks like it’s built right into the Cliffside. The bedding and everything in the room was well appointed, way beyond our expectations. It was so clean and neat. White linens on the king bed, ahhhhhh. The bathroom had a huge tube, a separate large glassed in shower and 2 large vanities. Plush robes and slippers. We thought we won the lottery. Onto the pool; to get to the pool, you walk down arbor lined path surrounded and overflowing with flowers and at the end is an infinity pool which overlooks the sea. Just another breathtaking view. Comfortable lounge chairs. We had dinner in their restaurant that evening, delicious. Of course looking out over the sea, which made it even more wonderful. Each morning we enjoyed the breakfast. The variety of fresh meats, veggies, fruits, breads was outstanding. Their lounge areas were gorgeous with large/tall windows with white curtains hung on them that billowed when the wind blew. Honest to God, this place was magnificent. This was like no other place we’ve ever stayed. Clean and the staff was courteous and you could tell they cared for their hotel. Very easy to get to the center of town for shopping, the beach, ferry’s, taxi’s, but yet not in the hustle and bustle of a downtown area. We loved our stay and want to go back. We highly and thoroughly recommend this hotel.

My wife and I spent 3 days here at the beginning of October as part of our 3+ weeks in Italy. We travel extensively all over the world and have become fairly picky in our accommodations. We are always looking for places to stay where we can go explore for a few hours each day but then return to where we are staying to just relax and enjoy our holiday. We had a room with a balcony that had amazing views of the coast and Amalfi itself. The property is amazing with some history, great location, very tastefully decorated, top-notch staff, and just a great property. It is expensive; however, rather reasonable compared to everything else in Italy. There really isn't anything to do in Amalfi as it seemed to be just tourist shops. We explored the village for a few hours but that was plenty and then we returned to the Convento. The service and food in the restaurant were top-notch just like everything else. We moved on to Positano as our next stop during our Italian holiday and were really missing the Convento as soon as we arrived at our next property. I did not question my decision to stay here once I arrived and would definitely stay here again. The only thing I would say that could be improved was the internet service. I needed to work remotely a few times and the internet access was painfully slow at all times.

My boyfriend and I had an excellent experience at Convento di Amalfi. The location, service, room, and views could not be beat. The hotel is romantic and clean and the staff is extremely helpful. It was an easy and quick walk down to the city center and ferries to other points along the coast. Would definitely stay here again and recommend to others.

The Grand Hotel Covento was away from the crowds in Amalfi, and had an air of tranquility that was only surpassed by the beauty of the views of the coast. The 10 minute hike down the narrow path to the village was safe enough to climb up after a big meal and a few bottles of wine. The endless pool was a pleasure to relax at. i would stary there again. All hotels are a hike to the center city. The breakfasts were awesome at the hotel, though we didn't dine there at night since we wanted to experience the area. The hotel staff was very helpful

If you want a peaceful environment where you can relax comfortably, enjoy a panoramic view of the harbour and Mediterranean Sea and have an easy access to the hectic activities of a busy tourist town, this is the place to stay on the Amalfi Coast.

Fantastic buffet breakfasts and dinners on the terrace. Meticulous cleanliness everywhere. Attentive, friendly and useful staff (almost all speak English). Direct access to Fulvia Clapier, the cheerfull General Manager.

Valet parking available at 25€ per day, but a car is not very useful on the Amalfi Coast. The hotel can arrange to pick you up at the Napoli train station and you can visit the Amalfi Coast from Sorento to Salerno by public buses, tourist double deck coaches, pubic or private boats or with a private chauffeur.

Room Tip: I believe all rooms have a sea view, but if you also have a balcony overlooking the sea, it is fanta...

When we arrived at the hotel we were assisted across the busy road by a member of staff who assisted us many times during our stay which was greatly appreciated. While we waited for check in we were given a welcome cool drink on the terrace overlooking Amalfi and what a fabulous view it was.
Our room was on floor three, two floors below reception. We had a wonderful view of Amalfi below us. The room was crisp and clean with a comfortable bed ,curtained off wardrobe area which we found quite useful not having to open or slide doors and the bathroom was well equipped but a bit small. Dressing gowns and slippers were provided and an array of toiletries (but I wish they had replaced the bubble bath which I used the first day ).
We quite liked the blandness of the interior as mentioned by an other reviewer as It reflected the buildings past history and added to the atmosphere. Our buffet breakfast was taken on the beautiful terrace and we returned there in the evenings to enjoy the twinkling lights below .We did not eat dinner in the hotel but enjoyed lunch in the bar beside the infinity pool .
It was a short walk into Amalfi either along the road (no footpath) or via steps down to the marina area. There is a shuttle bus throughout the day. This is a lovely hotel and we would stay here again.
