“This coast is worth seeing, no doubt.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2011

Photos on the site are equal to original. We had Aurora room. Nice cozy very tidy with large balcony surrounding it. So you can enjoy not only the picturesque see view but lemon trees and wonderful mountains. We can recommend it. They said Villa is far from the center of Amalfi. It takes us 15 minutes to get there on foot or 3-5 minutes by bus (the schedule is on the wall in the hall). But it’s a privilege to have fresh air in the evenings. Good private beach, extra pay. The most pleasant staff is ready to answer any question and give an advice what to visit and what is the best way to get there. You’d better not to rent a car as the roads are rather busy and dangerous.
This coast is worth seeing, no doubt.

.....so as you can guess, I really really like this place. I LIKE the fact that it is a 20 minute (pleasant and spectacular) walk from/to Amalfi town (you can choose the bucolic car-free "high road", or the scenic "low road"). I LIKED the fact that it was circa 480 steps down (and up) to/from the beach (nb- one could pay for an elevator, but then one might feel that one must cut down on wine/dessert consumption). I stayed in the "floating-over the sea" rooms, as well as a top floor side room (also with amazing views). I found the place spotless, light and airy.

There have been some comments on this site about breakfasts: Villa Maria Luigia serves standard Italian breakfasts (per a friend of mine "they eat dessert for breakfast!!!"), which is to say, cornettos, yogurts, juice, coffees etc. For North Americans, Germans and perhaps brits, who may like eggs and sausage etc, these breakfasts may be on the light/sweet side, but this is pretty standard for Italy (and some other parts of Europe).

The ladies (and night gentleman) were always friendly and helpful (nb I speak some Italian, so I'm not sure what their language skills are).

It's not a good place for those with mobility issues, but for those who have mobility and like to use it, this is THE place to stay on the Amalfi coast IMHO!

This was on the nicest places my family stayed during our trip through Italy. Our room had a beautiful sea view and a balcony, and the bedroom was spacious and immaculately clean. The breakfast terrace was also lovely, and the food in the morning was impressive. It offered free wifi, which was surprising given the location. The only downside is the long uphill walk from town (maybe 10-15 minutes) but it is kind of an advantage to get away from the noisy streets--you also get a better view when you're closer to the top of the hill! The beach is also down a hill, but we used the elevator across the street instead of walking. The beach is small and private, and there are chairs and umbrellas for rent. It is expensive, but so is everything else in Italy, and the water was beautiful. Highly recommended!

Room Tip: Request a sea view!

My partner and I spent 4 nights at Villa Maria Luigia at the end of June / beginning of July. I had booked it because of the glowing reviews on Trip Adviser and it did not disappoint. It was immaculately clean, the staff were really friendly and helpful, the breakfasts were delicious and the views (both from our room and the terrace from where we ate our breakfast in the morning) were stunning. The only downside was the walk into Amalfi on a very busy road ... although I guess the views wouldn't have been as spectacular if we hadn't have been so high up, so I guess you can't have everything! And at least we worked off our ice creams on the walk home in the evening! All in all, a truly enjoyable stay.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Villa Maria Luigia for four nights in May while on our 12-day trip through Rome, the Amalfi Coast, and Capri. We stayed in the "Aurora" room, which truly had the most spectacular views I have ever seen. The Aurora room is surrounded by floor to ceiling windows, with a narrow wrap around balcony. The balcony is just big enough to drag out a small chair and enjoy the sunset each night over a glass of wine! In my opinion, an incredible value (very reasonable rates for what you're getting).

The Villa Maria Luigia is perched up on the hillside just outside of the town of Amalfi. To your left are the sparkling lights of Amalfi, to your right is the dramatic coastal hills heading towards Positano, and directly below you is the crystal clear Mediterranean! The villa is set on a hill amidst orange and lemon trees.

The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. There was someone manning the front desk 24/7-- which is somewhat unusual for a "B&B". There is a beautiful common terrace that is open to all guests for enjoying breakfast or an evening drink. Even if you are not staying in a room with a view, this terrace makes up for it since it is always available for taking in the sights. The breakfast (which is included) was great- pastries, yogurt, cereals, coffee, lattes, juices, etc.

The rooms were spotless- very clean! The bathroom was always well-stocked.

Truly the only "negative" (depending upon how you looked at it) was that the Villa Maria Luigia is a bit outside of town...maybe a 15 minute walk. However the walk is one of the most beautiful you will ever take! All along the coast. Can be a little dicey at night since cars do some around the corner quickly, but there is a sidewalk for the majority of the route. We did the walk at least 2 - 4 times a day and it wasn't much of a hassle. Also- the Villa is right on the bus route so you can easily hop on the bus heading into town or out of town if you time it right. Cabs are easily accessible as well.

All in all - LOVED our time at the Villa Maria Luigia! Would return there for sure!

Room Tip: Try to nab the "Aurora" room if you can!

We had a beautiful room with a sea view which was really spectacular. There is a really nice terrace for breakfast and drinks and the staff was very nice and accomadating. The private beach offers elevator and umbrella service for 15 euro, or you can hike the 450 or so stairs to the public beach. It's quite a hike from the main part of town which was ok but beware as it is a busy road. Also, upon arrival we recommend a taxi from town. The bus is not really a great option. Speaking of which road noise was really the only issue we had in our room as the road is on the sea view side of the building. Overall this a good option as long as you don't feel strongly about being right in town.

Villa Maria is about 15 mins away by walk from city center, it is on the hill towards Sorrento and has excellent views. The room is run by friendly and helpful staff, most of them speaking English.

The Breakfast is of high quality better than expected from a B&B and is filling. We had croissants, danish pastry, cereals, muffin, toast, yougart, coffee, etc.

A good hotel, recommended!

Room Tip: Write a mail to re-confirm a proper sea-view room.
