The Royal Hotel is well situated about 3/4 mile north of the old part of town. It is off the main shopping drag, on a side street. there are actually two Royal Hotels within 200 feet of each other, both under common ownership, and we could never figure out whether anyone ever was staying in the other, which seemed older and used only for events. Our room was fine, with a queen bed and modern furnture, and a good size bathroom with a bath/shower. our window overlooked a side street, but we were on the 4th floor, so it was not noisy. Good selection of TV entertainment, as they had SKY TV.
The front desk staff, some of whom spoke English, were very helpful in helping us arrange a car with driver for a few hours to take us to my wife's family home town in the nearby mountains. Breakfast was standard, with fruit, juices, meats, cheese, pastries, and cereal.
Cosenza is not a great tourist town, though it has an interesting old part of town, with some good restaurants, and people were friendly. You can see the sites and get all the atmosphere in a day. After the 6-7 pm passegiata, it gets pretty quiet, even on the main shopping drag.
