“Nice hotel, right in the heart of the city”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2012 via mobile

This is a nice hotel with wonderful views over the city. Especially the view from the roof garden at evening is very nice. In the basement is quite an amazing natural spa, which costs 10 euro entrance. Don't miss it, it is very special. Breakfast is abundant, and different from standard hotels. They offer all kind of quiches, omelettes, tartes etc.
Our room, being under ground, had a bit moisty air though, but nothing the airco couldnt handle.

We had a hard time finding this hotel as our GPS did not work in the historic centre. Once we arrived at the hotel we headed right to the thermae – it was fantastic. After a week of travel with lots of walking, the thermae was exactly what we needed, before we knew it two hours had flown by.
The cave room we had was spacious and clean – however, not much of a view (room #9). The hotel was fully booked and we weren’t able to switch rooms – but how much time do you really spend in your room anyway. They did show us multiple rooms the next day that were available, but we were already settled and opted to stay where we were.
Breakfast had a lot of selection and it was great start to the day. All hotel staff seemed very accommodating and pleasant. Would definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone travelling to Matera.

Excellent hotel. Nice room (#12) with an incredible view to the sassi. Lovely little terrace right beside our room (that would have been perfect if a certain group of tourists hadn't insisted on hanging up their private laundry there....) Staff was very friendly & helpful. Breakfast extensive & delicious. Pool down in the cave with hot tub, sauna etc. was wonderful after a day of hiking around the sassi in the heat! We concur with the hotel staff who say to ditch the GPS when you get to the sassi and follow the hotel signs. Free parking a 5 minute walk away. Would most certainly recommend this hotel!

We have appreciate this hotel in Matera - very good location - not easy to find but well organised for car parking including pick-up - large room - good breakfast buffet - worth the money it cost and the reception is really helpfull giving tip for restaurants etc.

Room Tip: junior suite is good

We only had one night here, which was a big shame because it was wonderful. It's a really fantastic experience staying right in the heart of one of the Sassi. It's really tricky to find, especially when you arrive late, tired, hot and sweaty and also when you use Google Maps to locate the hotel and you are carrying a massive cas because yo can't bool it on the cobble stones! our from was large, with vaulted ceiling, excellent bathroom, and with a balcony looking right over Sassi.
It's a favulous place - if you are thinking of gong, just book it. The location f the hotel is one of the est we've ever been to. Breakfast was a bit basic, but was in a cave, so what can you say. We didn't try the Thermae, but it looks great. Had a superb pizza with a bottle of white wine at a great restaurant 300m left out of hotel.

Room Tip: Park up in the town, don't use Google Maps to find the hotel.

Really nice hotel in Matera. Bit awkward to get to if you have a large amount of luggage/mobility issues/children etc although the hotel will park your car for you for a charge (around €15). The room was a great size and the air conditioning was a relief from the mid 30s temperature outside. I would definitely stay here again if visiting Matera. Breakfast was very nice too!

Room was huge as was the bathroom (Room 28). The Thermae was very nice! Coolish pool, but a good hot tub (only seats 3 comfortably). Steam room. Very romantic spot to stay.
