“fish in very small containers”

We didn't stay very long because the view of poor fish in very small containers was very sad.
The building is amazing but the state of the poor animals ruined our visit.

“Open air sea life park”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013

Fascinating sea animals in space age setting. Spent 3 hours in late afternoon with dolphins, whales, penguins and sea horses. Expensive, but worth it

A wonderful day out - it would suit any type of visitor as the setting is magnificent, the different areas fascinating and the audio tour is very easy to follow and clear.

The Oceanografic is the moast interesting aquarium i have ever seen. It has a lot of rare species and the Arctic zone is amazing. I loved the white belugas.

“Visitor Friendly”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2013

When we saw the prices for the Oceanografic, 27.90 Euros each in our case, I said to Nina, ‘It had better be worth it!’ Well, it was.

Grouped around nine themed habitats or world areas, plus a dolphinarium, the park offers a fantastic variety of marine life, from sea anemones to whales and egrets to spider crabs displayed in accessible and visitor friendly ways suitable for all the family. The aquariums are calm and soothing; the antics in the dolphinarium are lively and raucous. You can take your time and absorb huge amounts of information, or stroll round just soaking up the beauty of the things that inhabit our seas and which we seldom see close up, if at all – a mixture of education, spectacle and therapy.

Every visitor will have their own highlights. For me they were: beluga whales, sea lions, sharks, walrus, spider crabs, spoonbills, guitar fish (so elegant) and sun fish (so gross).

The Parc is welcoming and customer friendly and scores extremely well on wheelchair access, toilets and places to eat and drink – in contrast to much of the rest of the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias.

If there was any downside it was that old conundrum of animals in zoos. The fish looked perfectly happy doing what fish do, very little; the birds didn’t seem too stressed; but the big marine mammals did look caged – one beluga swam endless circuits of its minute sea, like a polar bear forever pacing its cage. To be fair, the Parc probably addresses the problem as well as any institution can
