Having just arrived back from Spain where we stayed at both the Palau de la Mar in Valencia and the Amerigo in Alicante - both of the same chain, the Amerigo was significantly of a higher standard and deserving of it's 5 star rating, the Palau we thought was not.
On arrival we left our bags with reception as we arrived early. On returning from a short trip, we went back to the hotel. Our bags were not already in our room and in fact could not be located. It took three members of staff to find them. We were then given the key to a room which we went to - only to find it already being occupied! We were given a different room which was a little bit of a let down. For 5 stars you expect just that bit more effort and it wasn't here (although the oversize pillows on the bed were quite impressive).
There was no information pack in the room - it wasn't until we stayed at the Amerigo that we realised that one should have been in our room at the Palau - therefore we were in the dark a bit as to the facilities etc. It was good to have read about the free mini-bar on this site otherwise we wouldn't have known.
The jacuzzi area was OK - however there were no details on how to use the facilities (must have been in the info pack we didn't get).
There wasn't a bar inside the hotel itself and this led to a lack of atmosphere. We ordered drinks from the restaurant attached and drank in the lounge area - alone (Friday night). The lighting was too bright and harsh.
Overall - we felt this was more like a 3 star hotel and wouldn't pay more than 150 euros a night.

We spent four nights at this fab hotel and couldn't fault it. The hotel is very attractive with stylish, minimalist interiors. Our room wasn't huge but was more than adequate with an extremely comfy bed and super cool bathroom. The free mini bar, with beer, water and soft drinks was a really nice touch. We ate in the restaurant twice, partly because our stay included a sunday evening and not many restaurants are open then. That said there is more than enough to enjoy on the menu and the wine list had a good selection. Like many spanish restaurants, it was very quiet before 9 but that just added to the attentiveness of the service. We took the advice of another reviewer and tried the small bar down the road for breakfast which was a great tip. Its much cheaper than the hotel and was delicious, so long as you don't mind a large dose of passive smoking. Overall a pretty fautless hotel which we would definitely visit again.

An excellent place to stay (we had 4 nights). Design is clearly one of its top features but the wonderful staff are a real asset too: professional but charming. They were spot in terms of requests for different styles of restaurants. The hotel's own restaurant, very busy at lunch times, was quiet on the mid-week evening we dined there but service and food were very good. Lots of good restaurants (some with a michelin star) in the upmarket neighbourhood around hotel.

Some of the designer shops e.g. Adolfo Domingues are just 5 mins walk along Calle Sorni to the rear of the hotel. The lovely Turia River Park is 3 mins walk at the end of Calle Navarro Reverter. The cathedral and medieval town 10 mins walk. To walk to the City of Arts / Sciences took about half an hour along through the river park and was well worth the visit.

Our room was large, with separate dressing area but our only complaint was too little clothes hanging space and just 6 hangers, 2 small drawers and a small amount of open shelving. Great free minibar and toiletries. We followed recommendation of a previous reviwer & requested a room in the old part of building - we were on 4th floor and it was very quiet indeed. Sauna was excellent and the pool is tiny - so don't expect too much !!

I stay in a lot of five star hotels but this one really stands out. Incredibly helpful staff - with that rare quality you should always expect but virtually never get - thoughtfulness; terrific and stylish accomodation; a really classy lobby; and smack bang in the middle of the fancy shopping area (and within walking distance of the centro historico and restaurant triangle). Very highly recommended indeed.

Staying during Las Fallas was never going to be cheap and it wasn't at €300 per night. However, we had a fantastic time and loved staying here. Staff were very nice (the guys better than the women)and the rooms were lovely. Great bathrooms - the shower had great water pressure and my girlfriend loved the free shampoo etc. Beds were sublime to sleep in and in between drinking beer and wolfing down plates of ham we slept very, very soundly. Good TV with Real Madrid TV showing old games which was appreciated! (well, by me anyway) Valencia is a low key Spanish city and not as glam as Barca/San Sebastian/Madrid etc. & there's a lot of road works in preparation for the Americas Cup, but it's a pleasant place to spend a few days walking around in the spring sunshine. My only complaint is that the doors slam and wake you up all the time - I'm sure some stiffer door hinges would take care of this.
