I just got back from a week's stay at the Tryp Oceanic hotel in Valencia. The hotel had a nice modern look and had two outside elevators, from which you had a nice view over parts of the City of Arts and Sciences.
We stayed in a family room on the 9th floor, which did not had the best of views. The room itself was quite nice though. One of my friends slept in a double bed, while me and another friend slept in bunk beds. The double bed as well as the bunk beds were comfortable. The bathroom was nice and clean and had a heated mirror and infrared lamp. The hotel also has an outside pool, which was one of the reasons why we booked this hotel in the first place. However, we never even used the pool, since the beach was nearby.
The staff were always friendly and helpful. The staff at the reception desk spoke English which was a blessing. Elsewhere in Valencia, a lot of people only speak Spanish, which often meant we had to explain ourselves using signs. It helps sometimes to speak French, as this better understood than English it seemed.
The breakfast was ok and there was plenty of choice. On the other hand, the bacon was never crispy enough and the croissants were really sticky, but that's just hair-splitting. During the weekend the breakfast was very crowded, so it's best to go early enough.
If you want to visit the city, I can suggest renting bikes. At the backside of the hotel, there is a bike rental (I think it's called solution bikes) where you can rent a bike for €40 a week €10 for a day. It's a bit more expensive than some other bike rentals in the old city centre, but it's close to the hotel and the guy who's in charge was always really friendly and helpful.
The location of the hotel was perfect for visiting the City of Arts and Sciences and the beach, but less interesting for visiting the old city. Like I said everything is quite easy to reach by bike. We never used public transport, so I can't comment on that.
All in all, the hotel was good and I think it is one of the better places to stay in Valencia. We did have some small remarks, but these were always quickly dealt with.
