My father I law booked this hotel for us because of the price and location. We stayed in a twin room, I had emailed the hotel a couple of weeks before to upgrade to superior and request a non smoking room and advise them of my late incoming flight.. When I checked , I was given my key and set off to my room. When I came out of the elevator, all I could smell was cigarette smoke - it was horrible. I thought that someone must have had a crafty smoke in the hallway, so I entered my room and shut the door. I could still smell it and realised that I was part of an interconnecting room and they were smoking in there. The smell was coming in from under their door.
I returned immediately to reception only to be told that the hotel was fully booked, I was the last check in of the day and it was the only room left and yes, it was the smoking floor. They were sorry but to accommodate my request fro a superior room, they had to place me on the smoking floor. I asked to be transferred to a standard room but was told that the hotel was fully booked and there were no rooms left. They also told me that they could not refund the price of the upgrade either!
Luckily, the superior room had a little lobby where the wardrobe was and this is where the interconnecting door was, so by keeping the bedroom door shut and placing a blanket over the bottom gap, I managed to keep the smell out of the bedroom itself.
The room was a bit 80/90's but was clean and comfortable. The bathroom, again, was dated but adequate. The wall were very thin though and we woke up one night at 04.30 to hear the smoking couple next door having a big row and then noisy making up sex and I mean we heard everything!
Breakfast was decent, good spread. The rooftop pool area was good - fantastic views of the city. The pool was probably the coldest ever, it was freezing but a great relief after sunbathing!
The piano bar was great for people watching. My sister in law had arrived the next morning, so we had some good fun in there.
The location was great for a girlie weekend, next to the shopping mall and close to all the transport links for exploring.
So all in all a good budget hotel in an good location if you are willing to use public transport. Only the smoking thing and the managements indifferent response to my complaint let the hotel down.
