“Visiting a friend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2012

Stayed for only 1 night in a tourist flat and it was very close to the person we were visiting and were very happy with everything in the unit, clean and tidy, comfortable bed and nice hot shower. The hosts were very nice and helpful.
Good location as not far from the city and shops not far away.

We stayed on the Powered Site area for three nights as Auckland was our last stop in New Zealand before we dropped off our rented campervan.

It's hard to get a campsite close to the city centre and I would say this one was pretty good location wise. The reception were very helpful in providing details and a map of how to get to the bus stop and prices for travel. The bus took you straight into city centre in just over 30 minutes, so no problems there.

The powered sites themselves were on a bit of a slope, which wasn't great when sitting in your van or walking around. The parking spaces were also quite small and vans had to park almost touching back to back to fit into the spaces. Our van actually hung over the edge of the space, which was slightly worrying incase anyone bumped it while driving passed.

The facilites were fine, toilets and showers clean, but the kitchen could have done with being a bit bigger and it wasn't enclosed, so on one of the days when it was pouring rain and windy - it was actually blowing inside and cold. It wasn't a comfortable place to cook or eat.

Behind the powered site area, there seemed to be a section for permanent residents, just over the fence behind us one of them had his music blaring for hours. This was quite irritating. We didn't say anything to the staff, so in their defence they didn't have the opportunity to do anything about it, we just decided to try and ignore the noise.

One thing that was really good though was the car wash facility, particularly as we were dropping our van back with the hire company.

All in all, the park is fine. Nothing special but it does the job, not sure we would have stayed here more than one night if it wasn't out of neccesity.

The camp's location is ok and the facilities (toilets, shower, kitchen) are ok - pretty average for NZ. We have a Kombi so popped in to book an unpowered site, and then drove off to get some dinner. We returned about half-nine, ten and drove to the designated area. Turns out this is a tiny gravel road at the side of the camp with no grass - I assume they are interpreting the term "site" liberally! We were stunned, and there was no space to park our van anyway. We found a grassy bit by a dryer elsewhere in the camp and snuck on there. I would avoid this camp, I'm sure there must be much better options around Auckland.

Hosts were friendly at first, but turned quite rude. Unit was basic and I've stayed in better for the same price. We did have a family of baby cockroaches and a large white tail staying with us too. Ok place for camper van visitors, but I won't be staying again.

we stayed at avondale motor park on four seperate occasions during september and october 2011, four days spread over the weekends on each stay due to RWC matches.
we found the accomodation in a two bedroom tourist flat to be very good value, clean, spacious and comfortable. The site itself was well laid out and certainly had a park like feel, yet being near to a supermarket and buses to auckland centre.
The staff and management were extremely friendly and helpful and made our stays a pleasure, advice was given whenever required and if not known was looked up on the internet without hesitation!

Stayed at the motor park for 2 weeks altogether and the second night we were there I had to get up and get rid of four cockroaches from the room and another two during our stay. We were staying during the world cup so as you can imagine it was very busy. The park took in too many campers and as a result there was no hot water from 7.30am to 13.00 approx in the day. We had pre booked this place to stay again before we were due to fly to Australia. We booked into another tourist cabin but the lock on the door was faulty. When we went down to tell the management they immediately accused us of breaking it saying it was working that morning. The top of a spoon or the tip of my car keys could open the lock it was that loose without any effort. The manager came down and said there were never any break in's at this park and he had no time to fix the lock as the place was getting very busy. Exactly my point with the place jammed for the rugby world cup final. Then the manager started sprouting stuff about South Africa and not needed bars on the windows in New Zealand...... Got the lock replaced in the end but the argument with the manager just ruined our stay here. Basic requirement mate a door that locks eh!

We spent a week in Auckland for a family holiday. Comfortable and cosy, the two bedroom tourist flat that we stayed in was perfect for our needs. It was very clean and tidy, and reasonably well equipped. The manager was pleasant and friendly. The beds were comfortable, the shower fantastic. The camp ground is set in a quiet residential area away from the main road. There is a supermarket nearby. The only minus was the fact that the safety rail on the top bunk bed was broken. Also, cooking for the whole family would have been a challenge with only the two elements. Luckily we'd taken our portable BBQ with us, which the manager was happy for us to set up outside the flat. A large electric fry-pan would be a useful edition.
