“I love this hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2013

We are still enjoying our stay here, unfortunately we go home tomorrow. The staff are lovely, nothing is too much trouble. The views from our hotel room are stunning, definitely worth the extra for a sea view. We are staying in room 338 and my sister is in room 738 (bigger balcony and sun all day). We took the opportunity to look around a 3 bed apartment and have booked it for a return trip in September. There is good access to everywhere from the hotel if you are less able which was a key factor in deciding to bring our 86 year old Mother here in September. There is a lift to the supermarket, a lift to the beach and a lift to the pool. The hotel is ideally situated on the beach and at the bottom of the main shopping street. Everything is within easy walking distance so no need for a car. Breakfast is varied and plentiful. I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and we are looking forward to returning in September.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms on the 7th floor have bigger balconies and get the sun all day.

We are still enjoying our break at the Gran Hotel Sol Y Mar, it has been such a lovely holiday.

the hotel is very clean. the staff are very friendly and accomodating. the location is excellent for families/couples/friends. the pool is great, although I should think it's prob a little crowded in the high season but the beach is just as good an option if it is busy.

food is excellent and great variety. compliments to the chef(s)! if you are self catering the supermarket is directly underneath hotel and is very well stocked. It's possible to have a very reasonable holiday if you are on a budget.

our room is amazing, it's our anniversary very soon so I emailed ahead and asked for an extra special room, which they gave us.

all in all an excellent holiday due to the hotel and it's staff. thank you!

We have just returned from a 5 night stay from 5th to 10th april, fabulous hotel, location for the beach, pool area lovely (however the height of season may be crowded)
The weather superb extremely sunny and hot the last couple of days.
Rooms big, clean and contempory, we had a superior sea view, amazing views!
breakfast varied and staff throughout the hotel couldnt do more for you.
We normally stop at Villa Gadea in Altea about 10 mins away in the car, this also and great hotel and town of Altea beautiful.
Calpe also very nice and loevly restaurants in the old town.

Overall a perfect stay for a short easter break, we will definately be returning later in the year and would recoment this hotel to anyone!

Stayed at the hotel for 1 week 2nd-9th april. Great room very modern and clean. On the beach great for couples and familys. Had a half board deal and the breakfast and dinners were 1st class. All the staff are very helpful and curtious . We had a inside room that overlooked the zen area it was very quite and peacefull. Lovely pool and bar area that we used once but each day went on the beach.( beds 4.50 euros each for the day if you fancy getting of the sand ) my only complaint is why do we the british not get a tv channel that has something to watch instead of sky news bbc news and news news. We do like to have a evening meal and a drink in the lobby but after a hard day on the beach a film would be nice to chill in the room too. (For some reason the films are all in german, dutch. Russian, turkish, chinese etc. ) come on get your tv in order (just back from dubai and they had coranation st ) all in all a great hotel and we are looking forward to a return visit in the near future....the proud family

Room Tip: I think all rooms are good we had 419

We stayed in the self catering apartments (no. 44) for one week (31st-7th April) with the aim of getting away from the grotty/ freezing British weather. We wanted something comfortable, modern and close to amenities (beach, restaurants, shops) with an inside and outside pool. This place ticked all the boxes and we have really enjoyed our stay.

The apartment was spacious, comfortable and well equipped. The views are really good. The balcony was huge. It was centrally located but quiet at nighttime. Check in at the hotel was very straight forward, even at midnight. The apartments are in the same building as the hotel, which isn't what I had expected, but I was pleased about this. There is a large supermarket in the basement which is reasonably priced. We met our neighbours by the lifts but never once heard them whilst in the apartment. The towels and linen were all good quality. The beds were very comfy. Everything was spotless when we arrived.

We went to the beach or the pool with our 3 children (5, 3 and 2 years ) every day. Both the beach and the pool are a stones throw away, so you can pop back easily. The water was pretty cold, which you would expect for April but the children loved building sand castles and paddled for hours on end. My husband and I also had a quick swim in the sea which was fun! (Brrrrr) The hotel pool was also lovely. ( Again very cold but just about bearable! ) The weather really surprised us.... We expected to be wrapped up warm on the beach, but it was actually lovely! You need a fleece for when the sun goes behind a cloud or the wind picks up but there was at least 3-4 hours per day of proper hot sun bathing weather! Lovely!
Walking along the seafront felt safe and enjoyable. There is a great little park 5 mins away on the beach to further entertain the kids for a couple of hours.
All in all, this break was easy and enjoyable. We would definitely go again to the Gran sol y mar in Calpe. It was more expensive than other options but for an easy get away it was perfect and worth the money.
My only reservation would be going in high season. Obviously the hotel facilities would remain high quality but for us Calpe offered all the facilities without being overcrowded. In high season it would probably paint a different picture.

Me and my husband stayed here for a long weekend. The location right on the beach is fantastic. We booked a superior sea view rooom and it was well worth the upgrade. The room was huge and the view was spectacular. When you were sat on the balcony you felt like you were right on the beach. Breakfast was excellent and set you up for the day. Staff very friendly and helpful. Loads to do in the area, nice walk along the beachfront promenade with lots of sea front restaurants all reasonably priced.Found a nice little Italian just round the corenr from the hotel. Also visited Moraira 20 minutes along a very windy coastal road but a lovely place. I would definately recommend the hotel and would stay here again without hesitation.

Room Tip: A front sea view room is essential to get the benefit of the view

We stayed at apartment 73 with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathroom. Huge balcony with partial sea view. Balcony is on east side - no sunshine at the evening.
Rooms big and nice. Comfy beds, but I had my own pillow as the one in the room was on a hard side and very long.
Well equipped kitchen with coffee maker, pans and pots. Set of cups, wine glasses, forks and spoons, plates and drinking glasses for 8 people is there. No kettle, but no drama, we used a pot.
Microwave and new oven with grilling option available.
The rooms are quiet, no noise from outside.
Flat screen tv with digital HD channels between nr 800 - 840 (Discovery Max in English at 837)
Buffet food is okeyish. Supermarket right under hotel.
Excellent Spa. Recommend booking massage with Sergio - great session!!!

We will be back for sure!
